Status: just got out of the psychology test. I went into it with 15 extra credit points. The test had 75 single-point questions and was graded out of 60. A third of the questions could be solved just with experience interacting with people, and another third by simply knowing what certain words mean. I wonder if I passed.
Secondary status: Have they turned the sensitivity on the sidebar up? Because I managed to open either the chats menu or the sidebar at least twenty times trying to tap the scroll to bottom button, and eventually gave up and enabled the mouse pointer. And spacebar dragging was invaluable while writing this.

I did notice that.

@tsaukpaetra NodeBB: Where you can tap the sidebar to open the chats and vice versa. What the fuck happened to only being able to swipe from the edge? Makes me feel bad for the people using mobile browsers that don't have mouse pointers.

IOW, a third of the answers was "IDIOT" ?

@pie_flavor And then on Windows Phone, where swiping like that changes your tab, it was TERRIBLE. I haven't tried using this monstrosity from my phone in months, because it was awful.

@blakeyrat God. Wheatley was so fucking annoying. About on the level of Jar Jar Binks. Even the other personality cores were nice, but Wheatley ruined the experience.
Cave Johnson saved it, though. I played custom levels just so I could hear more of his ridiculousness at the beginning of them. Chariots!

what?!? I understand swiping the addressbar while not selected doing that, but anywhere along the side of the screen? Isn't that supposed to bring up Charms or something?
-
@tsaukpaetra What are you talking about? The Charms bar was never in Windows Phone. What I'm saying is that Edge on Windows 10 Mobile uses swiping right to go back, and left to change tabs.

@pleegwat Likely because it grabs the lower-quality file to start playback immediately while it buffers the higher-quality one, and then it's either over or it forgets to make the switch.
It plays the sound through the headphones or else it gets the hose again.

Oh, sorry, I assumed the Convergence would have made the difference between Phone, Tablet, Laptop, and Desktop virtually seamless.
I really can't imagine how useful that gesture set would be TBH, and would probably disable that if at all possible as soon as I discovered it...
-
@tsaukpaetra They were just finishing off converging the platform when they had to cancel Windows 10 Mobile.
8 was never cross-compatible, only mostly, where the actual XAML UI could not be shared.
With 10, they completed app convergence, but stil recommended that you do a different UI for different platforms, being sure to make the usability fit the form factor. They did a great job of it, honestly: Windows 10 Mobile is still great to use.

Status: Remembering why I prefer to not work from home; I've just worked 14 hours straight (except for meals) and significantly improved the measured code quality of one of our larger code modules. (What possessed my colleagues to make Python classes with single methods a thousand lines long?! And not just one either.) What remains is enough of a mess that I really don't want to touch it β it's enough of a tangle that all the obvious refactoring strategies make it worse β and the code as a whole is still being actively written in that area so it's probably best left alone for now.
And I'm tired and still on a focus-high at the same time. Blerk.

STATUS I have hazy memories of a game I used to play. All I remember is that it's an isometric RPG from ~1994(?) where you are questing through an underground labyrinth to defeat an evil warmonger. Along the way you pick up an intelligent, evil sword that feeds on souls and is both the most powerful weapon and the actual instigator of all the evil.
I'd remember the game box if I saw it, but I can't remember anything about the name. It's been bugging me...I do remember the phrase "over 100 hours of play" on the box though...

Status: My screen just went black. Then, an outline of a window appeared with the Windows XP theme, then various components appeared and resolved themselves, and then everything went back to normal. And then the device connection sound played.
Wat? Restarting computer for tinfoil hat purposes.

One or two junior mettles tomorrow, but probably won't be live. Since I am super busy, I'll just have them work offline and submit after 2 hours. Then write a post-mortem, if there's something to talk about.

I feel like there's a subtle bug hiding somewhere that makes it think disconnected touches are actually swipes. Like it's remembering a previous touch as the beginning of a swipe event and then any subsequent touch is interpreted as a continuation of the swipe.
It's relatively easy to avoid pulling the sidebar out (as long as you don't try to... oh, I don't know, scroll horizontally, or select text...). But then it just pops out randomly for no apparent reason when you barely touched the screen and definitely didn't swipe.

@dkf Working from home has its advantages, depending on what's going on. If you're able to just work on a coding task, where you don't need to communicate and you know what to do, the lack of distractions can be a wonderful thing.
Alternatively, it can make it easier to slack off and harder to communicate, so I usually prefer to work in the office, personally.

I think this has something to do with having a clear separation between "work place" and "home place" in your head. If you only work from home, then you get used to this one place serving both for business and leisure.
If you usually go to office, though, your mind decides that is where work happens. So when you then try to work from home, it rebels, like "WTF dude, it's couch time".
From several conversations I've had with people who have switched from remote to office work, this checks out. Once they get used to working in the office, their productivity at home plummets.
-
@cartman82 If you work from home, you need a home office, not just sitting on the couch with your laptop
-
@cartman82 When working from home, I have a specific place set out for just working, to keep that separation in my mind. If one can do that, it can work well, but it isn't easy.

I have a separate room, it doesn't help. I'd probably need a whole different place, like with a little bit of outside world between couch and desk. When I went into a coworking space a few times, I could work there, no problem.

My boss (client) would be perfectly happy with me working from home. Everybody I work with is hundreds of miles away, so it doesn't really make any difference to communication. However, the first half of the last sentence is why I pushed for a cubicle in their local office.

30-minute hack attempt
So far, I managed to get the editor to recognize that it is a real UPROPERTY that objects can have, and seems to be treating it as an int32 (probably because I basically just copied places I found the
UIntProperty
and just duplicated it forUInt64Property
).So now I'm digging a bit further to see if I can introduce a BigInteger type into the Editor. We'll see if I did it once it compiles 600 classes that were affected by the header file modification...
