@blakeyrat Hell, I was tempted for the longest time to put the following on my resume:
"Frequently led teams of varying size and scope, managing roles within said teams to peak efficiency, and providing individual-level instruction as well as ensuring group-wide goals were achieved."
The actual "skill" this is describing? EVE fleet commander :D

Status: Holy hell is it warm in our office today. I'm sitting here trying to help technicians move desks and watch our queues and I'm sweating like crazy.

Status: Calibration of z-axis to the center of the hotbed met with success. The base layer no longer shows curlicues and yielded a perfect cylinder.
Currently testing a second print to see if the calibration persists between prints.
-
@rhywden And the answer is a resounding "No". There might be an issue with proper turning of the x-axis' threaded rods.
-
@rhywden it's 2017 and I still only know one person at a time with 3D printer.
-
@gąska I was tempted for a time to pick one of the cheaper models up solely to print knockoff models for use in Warhammer or D&D games.
Then I remembered that most of the people who I played those with no longer live near me, so I forgot about it.
Now that one of them has moved back the idea is starting to whisper again...
-
@e4tmyl33t My kit only cost 250€. Which also explains some of the issues I'm having.
On the other hand: I know exactly what each part does.

@tsaukpaetra yeah, don't do that.

I've done that. No problems... But then I do C++...

Job Description:
Client is looking C++ Developer.

It broke the C++ things too.
Specifically, somehow rc.exe disappeared.
Repairing 2015 seems to have brought it back.

Straight to what point exactly ?
Client is looking {at / for / like } a C++ Developer.
Which is it ???
-
@tsaukpaetra might be because 2017 changed some of the paths to some of the binaries and shit.

And this is why I'm using Rider.

Required experience:
Cloud Engineering: 6 years
I don't think cloud engineering was even a thing 6 years ago...
-
I've had 2015 alongside 2017 since 2017 went full release. Never had any problems

@gąska said in The Official Status Thread:

It exist since 1960 at least

New pet peeve #1: when job postings differentiate between programming and scripting languages.
New pet peeve #2: when job postings don't differentiate and put them all under the same label.

Status: In an effort to establish basis for my unfounded claim in an earlier post, I wanted to check Wikipedia article about cloud computing to see when it started. Instead, I found this:
-
Fun fact: Cloud Computing is a grandson of Distorted Humor.
-
@gąska A job posting that wants someone who knows all of those languages should be a huge red flag. That's three different classes of language in one big list.
C, C++, Go - system languages
Java - applications language
Python, Ruby, Perl - open source shit garbage broken-ass languages with shitty threading
-
@blakeyrat it's more "at least one of them" than "all of them". I'm looking at junior positions, and they're written quite differently from postings for seniors.
-
So, I found out that the Wikipedia article for "Cloud computing" was created on March 3, 2007, and it redirected to "Utility computing". It became a proper article on September 4, 2007.
So it's quite a bit older than I thought (the buzzword, I mean. The concept dates back at least to the 70s).

Status: Put a proper glass pane on top of the heatplate. Increased the temperature accordingly (from what I found, it's a temperature gradient responsible for a ~4 K drop) but the PLA didn't stick properly - it did print a cylinder but with very rough edges. Will try some hair spray due to lack of other adhesives.
But at least the glass pane seems to be properly plane.

@gąska said in The Official Status Thread:

That's even more of a red flag.
-
@rhywden All that tinkering makes me convinced it's still too early to look into one. Unless it costs way more than I want...
-
@gąska Ah. Well good luck with the job hunt.

snickering
Maybe (snickering because of garbage collection I guess?) but it's a hell of a lot closer to C than it is to something like Java or Python.

No, that's just bad writing by a person with no clue about the job. A red flag is a question like "are you willing to travel 900 miles for on-site interview out of your pocket?" A red flag, not a no-go.
Did I mention I'm quite desperate?

Well, if you want to get a job in the worst way (the double entendre is entirely intentional), go for it.
-
@antiquarian it's not like I didn't try all the best ways first.

@dcon said in The Official Status Thread:

As I said, it's a rather low-cost kit based on an open-source 3D printer. Tinkering is expected at that price point.
If that thing works out I'll have a look whether the a bit more expensive 3D printer from a vendor is okay - that one is actually promising a 3-in-1:
3D printer, CNC and laser engraving (not cutting, though). And since it's intended for the use by pupils, this should be a bit more user-friendly. A bit. I'm not expecting the world.

Status: Today I've been told that in order to make the level not be pitch black after building lighting, that you must turn on all the lights. Makes sense.
What doesn't make sense is that in the same breath I was told that I must immediately turn those lights back off before saving all the levels. Because.... :/
Something about that seems wrong to me. I'm going to partially ignore the instructions and see what blows up...

I always had this pet peeve about avatars looking to the left. Avatars should look to the right.
It makes me happy to see that every avatar in this board that I could find that depicts a single off-center face has it looking to the right.
-
@anonymous234 it looks like @Maciejasjmj even went the extra way to vertically flip their avatar to match this convention.

Status: after my 7am alarm, my phone decided it was done with honoring my alarms and just flat out skipped three alarms while turned on and plugged in:
The third alarm that was supposed to happen isn't even listed there. When I "dismissed" an alarm, it suddenly switched to notifications for missed alarms.

It totally was. I was on a project doing cloud computing that finished in 2009. (Yes, there were a lot more rough edges back then.)

The core business concepts go back into the 1960s; before that, computers were deeply experimental and didn't have much of a business model at all. What goes around comes around.

That pie is not a face. And ben's one is either looking to the right or the center.
But somehow I didn't see any of the other ones. Maybe because I only looked 2 pages up this thread.

The image uploader in this forum lets you crop and flip (horizontally and vertically). It's pretty neat.

@tsaukpaetra Yours is Giger-esque. Yours has seven directions, plus a few that can't be discerned without being able to percieve 12 dimensions.

@tsaukpaetra I assure you, you aren't going to bend an ATX motherboard enough to hurt it by lifting basic components by it.
I have hefted extended ATX server wankery around by the balls plenty of times.
