Man, I'm sucking all the balls and not getting very far at all.
I can apparently get "classic" mode working (though it's hard to prove), but Integrated mode just trips down the stairs and there aren't enough lights down there to tell me what went wrong. As soon as I enable any managed modules KaBoom! it all blows up...
-
@tsaukpaetra I've not yet figured out what the hell Integrated mode actually does.
-
@weng said in The Official Status Thread:

AFAICT, it just means instead of using up a bunch of DLLs to handle requests, it goes straight on through the .Net runtime's type system.
-
@tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:
goes straight
Also, through my journey I discovered that Microsoft's error code for
E_FILE_NOT_FOUND
is actually0x80070002
.That's cool. But fucking tell me what file you're damn looking for, wouldja?
-
@tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:

Okay, so clearly you're loading up the .Net runtime ok...
That's fine, there is none of those, and I get the "hur dur, couldn't find the index page and directory listing is not enabled on this site" error.
... Wat. You can't find a core library? WTF are you smoking, Hostable Web Core?
-

How the hell is my app being launched in Visual Studio normally (at this very moment even) then? WTF?!?!?!

If this turns out to be the reason all this crap isn't working....

It's not.
But I found another clue. Apparently iisexpress is loading from
C:\windows\Microsoft.Net\assembly
instead ofC:\windows\assembly
Now to figure out why that's happening...
-
@tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:
figure out why
I'm sure it's because I'm missing some prerequisites...
-
@tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:
I'm sure it's because
The cot-dang Target framework is set to 2.0. FML.
Now to start adding back all the shit I ripped out trying to fix this POS...
-
@tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:

Fixed it by using the .Net 4.0 version of web.config.
Now that all that's out of the way, time to clear out all my research... Closing 47 Chrome tabs, 6 Notepad.exe windows, 1 Event Viewer window, 7 File Explorer windows, 1 Process Monitor window, 1 WinMerge window, 1 Internet Explorer window, 1 Command Prompt window, 2 Visual Studio projects, and 1 Task Manager window...
...
......OK!
-
What the hell is this thing sucking up all my bandwidth (the location, not Chrome)?
an hour later, after trying several different things to find out what the hell it is
closes giphy tab
Oh.
Okay, well that's solved. Now I want to know why adding a rule to block it from my firewall did NOTHING. Also, why giphy kept downloading and downloading and downloading when I wasn't doing anything there, I'd just forgotten to close it after a particular gif search.
-
@dreikin said in The Official Status Thread:

TRWTF.
I would blame a video ad set to loop and the server set to nocache the file so they could keep "accurate" hit counts.

Probably just downloading 2.6 GB of gif reaction images in the comments section.

Status: made the flat that @royal_poet and I live in have a mesh network. Fun fact: ISP modem/router is now operating only as a modem, connected to three nodes of Google Wifi - and GW2 ping times dropped.
Of vital importance, we can now sit on the lavatory and continue internet usage should we so wish. (We have a really weird apartment layout that essentially consists of 4 rooms in a line with a hallway alongside all of them, with the living room / inner bedroom / weird-ass courtyard for the floor below us / bathroom / master bedroom. Mesh network required.)

* pilot announced "sorry for the gate change, but as you all know there was a problem on the plane we were supposed to use and we couldn't let the passengers off" - WTF?!?!?!? No, we don't know because we were late to the gate because customs took an hour!!! Still don't know... need to start googling about issues in Charlotte NC last night...

Status: Was wondering why my Surface Book suddenly demanded to know which camera I wanted to use (front or back?) upon startup of the Android emulator. Said emulator then additionally failed to start because it couldn't use hardware GPU emulation. And then something else threw up an error.
So I rebooted.
Only to find the Book to be caught in an endless reboot cycle due to a "Critical Process Died" BSOD.
Currently resetting it to see if that helps or if there's some underlying hardware problem because I actually didn't change anything over the last two weeks.
Was a new Surface just released? Or wait, nevermind, that's Apple...

Wow, good thing PowerDVD has a free trial; it's stuttering all over the place. How does it manage to do that with a GTX 970? Going to investigate and make sure it's not drivers or something, but I've never seen anything else do it.
I run it on my 4k monitor on a GTX1060 with no problems...

When did I talk about compiling? This was using their poor little PowerShell thingy that does this. AFAICT it just shoves the files into a signed zip file with some extra XML voodoo magic inside.
