In Belgium it was Jupiler
It's Jupiler in 75% of the cases.

I make just slightly more than that in Murican dollars per hour (after taxes). And that can be considered sort of upper middle class here.
Mimimum wage here is ~2.28
EURUSD. I forgot I made the conversion.
-
@Polygeekery But as far as I can tell that is not the reason for self-order machines and there were no workforce reductions because of them.
It just gives customer an option to give the task of carefully building their order to the more intelligent person (the choice will vary for different customers).
-
@obeselymorbid Pretty much. I go to the Golden arches on a Friday morning for one of their greasy breakfast and a coffee. The amount of staff is the same as the counter isn't continually always staffed.

It allows more orders with the same staff. It could, if you suddenly had to increase wages by 50% (from $10/hour to $15/hour), allow you to handle the same amount of orders with less staff. You wouldn't even need to fire any, just let them leave naturally and not replace them.

They are not uncommon here. I've seen them throughout Europe and Asia.
Ah, so not the U.S. RIP the dream.
Don't worry, as the $15/hr minimum wage thing gets going they'll be in all the burger joints soon enough.

$1.6/hr minimal wage and we still have ATM in banks and for buying cinema tickets.
Having small wages doesn't seem to be improving things for us. Do you suggest we reduce it a bit more?
-
@wharrgarbl Who cares what happens to you guys?
But seriously...it's difficult to convert to drastically different economic conditions. The automated solutions still save owners money, but that's no reason to screw unskilled labor over intentionally. Or even skilled labor, by making their labor artificially more expensive so that you can feel good at their expense.

O'reilly did a survey recently, apparently (free login required, no paywall):
No big macs, though

If you have a doctorate, you can expect to earn on average $10,434 more than someone without one.
Serious question: how many people with doctorates choose to work in web development?
Also, I'm clearly in the wrong country.

It's also been raining in Montreal for a week, if that can make you feel better
-
@Yamikuronue Love me some data.
The tasks you do want to avoid are project management and content management systems.
LOL. Though in my company, project management is definitely good for your salary. I avoid it like the plague, though. My experience in general is a bit at odds with the averages (mostly in good ways). Though I got involved in my project in a totally non-web way, and it's 100% an enterprise thing, not at all public web.
But the CMS people here know who they are. They're probably OK due to the caveat here:
Minor involvement with CMSs costs you $4,647, and major involvement costs you only $3,824. We don’t know why major involvement should be better than minor involvement. The reason may be that CMSs are associated with less technically sophisticated jobs.
Wow...only 2% of respondents use C#. Less than even go? This seems like a bit of a red flag for the survey.

They're probably doing something technical regarding their area of specialty that's being exposed on a web page somehow.

I didn't notice that in the article. No way that's anywhere near accurate to the real world.

@boomzilla ASP/ASP.NET is on 17%, but C# on 2%? Given VB/VB.NET isn't even charting, I'm calling shenanigans.
-
@boomzilla With those salary bands, they must have specifically excluded Silly Valley!
-
@RaceProUK It's self-reported. People must have just checked one and not the other.

Then those people must be subject to the harshest possible punishment: being lightly slapped by a wet pilchard!

@boomzilla Looks like Bash is finally gaining recognition as the programming language of choice for web devlopement.
-
@Yamikuronue stupid page doesn't work on mobile

That's definitely not the way it worked out at our local McD's. Before the self-serve kiosks went majorly in (they had one near the entrance but the signage made it look like it was mainly for the "gourmet" range), they had 2-3 staff working the counter normally. Now they've remodelled and there are about a dozen kiosks, lining the way from the entrance to the counters, and usually there's nobody on the counter (someone comes out if they notice someone waiting).

-
@boomzilla I almost read that headline as "Shitting Incomes for American Jobs"
-
@RaceProUK Not a huge factor for most of us. I guess if you have some serious G.I. problems you might spend more of your work time on the toilet than others, but I doubt that's terribly significant.
-
@boomzilla True, but then if I had problems that serious, I'd seek medical attention

What's particularly fun is that I can't see the lower paid jobs when changing the years. Yay for over-large graphs!

@dkf
WOMM. You might want to consider upgrading from your 800x600 monitor or uninstalling some of your 27 versions of the BonziBuddy toolbar.
