Status: Getting lessons on just how random Spotify's randomness is.
We have an office playlist, and it's just played Korn, followed by BeyoncΓ©, followed by Black Stone Cherry.
Random.
-
@RaceProUK It plays me Aerosmith FFS when listening to the a chilli peppers "radio".
FUCK OFF AEROSMITH can die in a fire.
The same algorithm plays me Metallica when I am listening to Megadeth ... FFS
-
@RaceProUK Would you like your random to be less random?
-
@GΔ ska Nah, pretty sure that's emacs

, Dave Mustaine did start in Metallica.

Status: Hmm... loading a Xamarin Android project now causes VS to freeze.
I am slightly miffed.
Edit: Oh, the solution* was that simple? Huh. I'll remember that for next time.
*I deleted the
.vs
folder.

If you were @accalia I could now make a joke based on the former forum user @MiffTheFox

While researching this issue, I found something interesting:
The reason I suggest this is that there's a bug in the latest Xamarin Studio where packages won't update if your time zone is east of UTC
-
Totally burnt out, been working about 16 hours a day since XMAS. I think I might just be done for good this time.
-
Microsoft released another Windows Insider release yesterday.
I started updating my tablet at 14:50. At ~15:50 it finally finished downloading and "preparing" the update and rebooted. It's now 16:26 and it's at 22% progress.
It says it "might take a few minutes".
-
@anonymous234 Do you mean "windows insider her"?
-
@anonymous234 the biggest alternative fact around at the moment is the Windows 10 "This won't take long" message when installing or updating Windows 10
-
@Jaloopa It takes a long time when you have a crap PC.
Being part of the "MASTER RACE". Updates takes seconds.
My PC is 4 years old ... but it does have 32gb of ram and the fastest SSD disk I could buy at the time.
-
@lucas1 I have 16GB of RAM, and a second hand SSD. Still took quite a while when I got the anniversary update
-
@Jaloopa Yeah, full OS updates obviously take longer than seconds even on new top end machines.
-
@loopback0 are you suggesting there may be incoherent gibberish somewhere in this thread?
-
@Jaloopa Bollox. Because I had a similar setup and it still took seconds.
-
@lucas1 A few thousand seconds?
-
@Jaloopa Nope. like 30 maybe a minute at most.
What you aren't mentioning is the forced reboot when I want to keep my editor / cmdline etc ready for the next day.
-
@lucas1 said in The Official Status Thread:

For the Anniversary Update?
-
@loopback0 Didn't even notice it happen.
-
@lucas1 you do know that Windows 3.1 isn;t the same as Windows 10, yes?
-
@Jaloopa yes and I didn't takes ages for the anniversary update. Because I keep the machine up to date.
inb4 "keeping you PC updated is a bad thing".
Fuck actually I own a Mac as well. A full OS update from whatever was before Sierra to Sierra was about 10 minutes. I did the upgrade on a battery.
-

So do I, and even on my top end machine, the Anniversary Update took minutes.
I've no idea how long any other updates take because I leave Windows to reboot
whenever the fuck it pleaseswhen I'm not using it for those.
-
@lucas1 Do you have, like, a 5THz CPU and a 10Tbps connection or something? Because I keep my machines up to date, yet it still took the best part of an hour to apply the Anniversary Update.
-

My work machine is low end and don't take that much. I guess windows 7 updates faster.
-
@RaceProUK
Much like his cock, the performance of @lucas1's computer when applying updates comes up lacking compared to the performance claimed on web forums.
-
@loopback0 My annoyance is that it doesn't tell me because I have cmdline dev stuff working in the background for front end stuff. Usually watch tasks.
-
@lucas1
I admit my tablet has a crappy eMMC disk. But still, Windows is 16GB. Even a ridiculously slow 10MB/s write speed it would only take 30 minutes to write a full uncompressed copy. The fact that it takes >2 hours to install the smallest build update ever (literally just 4 days worth of patches) is just Windows Update bullshittery.
-
@izzion I think you are quite envious of my black computer that has "massive" performance.
-
@fbmac said in The Official Status Thread:

Windows 7 updates are individual patches.
Windows 10 build updates seem to be literally reinstalling the entire OS every time.
-
@anonymous234 It does what Linux Deltas does.
-
@anonymous234
Yes, Anniversary Update was deployed as an in-place upgrade to the OS. Whether they're going to do the same with future feature updates (and what they're going to do about the ever expanding amount of hard drive space for Windows.OLD.reallyOLD.FeatureUpdate folders) remains to be seen.
-
@anonymous234 said in The Official Status Thread:

They don't seem to: they do reinstall the entire OS. Well, it's an in-place upgrade, but yeah, it reinstalls the OS.
-
@izzion said in The Official Status Thread:

I think they hang around for a month in case you need to roll back, then Windows auto-nukes them.
-
It just finished! Total time to download and install: 2 hours 10 minutes.
Sound drivers: not fixed :(

Is that auto now? I thought these will persist until you run disk cleanup.

I guess not:
I coulda sworn I read somewhere it was meant to be though.
-
@izzion Nope My PC does fine. "There is no problem, I can assure you" - Donald Trump
-
@lucas1 Donald Trump gives you tech support?
-
@RaceProUK It was a reference to the "small hands" response he made during the RNC
-

He gives him alternative facts.
-
@loopback0 I give the red pill mate.
-
@cheong said in The Official Status Thread:

I ran a disk cleanup on the PC I'm currently on, and it didn't list old Windows installations. However, it did list over 30GB in Temporary Files, so maybe it's included in that. But probably not.

@RaceProUK For me it didn't list he old Win8 installation.

You need to select the checkbox for "Cleanup system files" to have it looking for this folders. If the checkbox is not there, chances are you're selecting the drive without previous Windows installations (and related files).
