So, while my phone doesn't support the app, I'll be playing something that can connect to it in November. Went with Eevee, and the pokeball.
-
RIP me, I guess...

I'm level 17,darling.

And I'm 16.5But what's a little leveling rivalry between
random schmucks who both post on the same forumfriends?

Yep, I'm well and truly fucked.

@Tsaukpaetra
Did you turn debug mode back on?

Did you turn debug mode back on?You know what, that might be it. But I've had debugging mode on literally since I noticed turning it off let me in, and no problems since then...
-
@Tsaukpaetra
Probably comes down to the fact that the app fully restarted itself again, rather than resuming from suspend. So it only checks debug on startup, but since Niantic apps crash twice a week...
-
So, any recommendations for Pokemon IV calcs / trackers? Are there any that can make like an API interface to your account, as opposed to tons of manual input?

I've seen that error. I just close the app and try again. Usually happens when my connection is spotty.

The current version is very crashful. A group of 8 I was in failed a Ho-Oh raid Saturday because of 6 crashes during the raid.

Nope. Quite a few months ago Niantic started banning accounts that used any kind of unofficial software to access their accounts. This used to be quite common in the times before that.
The best, which is Android-only, is Calcy IV. It reads the text, level meter, etc. from screen captures to get the data for IV calculations. People also use Poke Genie on iOS.

RIP. Apparently I have a thing for games by developers with a strict NoFun policy (FFXIV, my other main game, is horrible with no APIs and no in-game mechanisms for providing you feedback on how your damage is compared to the capabilities of your class).

These are fine to use. They read the screen, they do not log into the app on your behalf.

35k XP to go until Level 24.
Pretty sure I'm gonna hit Level 25 long before I get to 10 Ghosts or a Ditto. :/

Maybe you can find a Ghastly or Shuppet nest? And play at night?

Is it alright if I give your codes to my husband?
This is so funny that, the introvert, is helping my husband, the extrovert, make pokemon friends.

A-Ok by me, my husband won’t say no either.

Finally got through the 7-day-long stage 6 of Celebi quest. Now I need to catch 40 grass or psychic pokemon - but it's partly cloudy, and there aren't any of those types. Usually I like partly cloudy weather because you get all those boosted normal types, but today...
-
Ditto conquered.
On the Gulpin that I figured was going to complete the last field research I needed for my Raikou, incidentally
At least it's cloudy weather, so the poison types were fast & furious.

I got really lucky with Ditto quest. It was at the spawn point I can reach from my apartment.

I can't remember if this was posted here...

Guys! I spotted new Pokémon!
-
@Tsaukpaetra
The fabled Gyradoslax, a sweeper tank
-
I've set up a local pokemon community on discord and added it to silph road. Just waiting for the applications to come flooding in.
In reality I just need someone else in my village to help with raid on the local gym. I went up against an 18k Tangela twice at the weekend and was 2 seconds off both times, I just need to be able to whatsapp someone and they dash round to help.
-
I've gone nerd++ and given all my pokemons a number prefix to their names, so I can see at a glance what they're all for. This is what I'm using:
0 - Gym defenders. Done by order of strength (01, 02, 03 etc) so if I'm passing a gym I just drop in the top left mon.
1 - Trade - Special. Ones I want to trade away but are special/shiny.
2 - Trade - High CP, Low IV. The friend you trade with may end up with a decent pokemon if the the rerolled IVs are good.
3 - Trade - Junk. Garbage to trade away to gain candies.
4 - Trade - Distance. Usually hatched from 7k eggs.
5 - Trade - For Lucky. Good pokemons but low IVs and middling CP. Only any use if good IVs are rolled and they become lucky. Worth a try.
6 - Evolve - Priority. When evolving after popping a lucky egg do these first. Usually 80%+ IV or will evolve into a not-yet-caught pokemon.
7 - Evolve - For XP. The junk to evolve/grind just for XP. Pidgeys, Weedles etc.
8 - Keep - Other. Mons no good for raids but maybe 100% or shiny etc.
9 - Keep - Heavyweights. Mons used in raids, high stats.Cow orker who I do most of my trading with has also adopted this system and it had doubled our efficiency.

I'm still waiting to get my first Candy from it. So close, only about 300 meters (if the thing is to be believed)!
I estimate this will happen in time for Thanksgiving, and cute little Server and I will be one step closer to finishing that "earn two candies walking your partner!" quest.

Wait, so how were you battling an 18k then? WTF?
-
@Tsaukpaetra
By throwing 6 mons at it. Also, the attacker has a moderate advantage over the defender between the dodge mechanic (if you’re any good at it) and the fact that you should be hammering your quick attack and using your charge attack intelligently, as opposed to the AI which somewhat randomly uses the two at a slower pace.Plus the attacker can choose for type advantage, which is something like 1.4x damage done offensively and 0.7x damage taken defensively.
-
The 18k was the "boss" in the gym. You have to defeat it to receive* a pokemon of the same type as a reward. The one you receive will be a more sensible CP.
*rather, the chance to catch.
As Karla mentioned above you should be able to solo 1* and 2* raids. 2* goes up to about ~16k. I was confident I could solo a low 3*, and with a bit of powering up I probably could. Not yet though :/
-
@izzion said in The Official Pokèmon Go Thread:
the dodge mechanic
I can never figure that out. All I know is that I usually
diefaint really quickly. It's nothing like any other Pokémon game I've played (gestures for fast-paced gameplay are shit!) and I never have anything that can compete.
-
@Boner said in The Official Pokèmon Go Thread:
raids
Oh, you're talking about a raid. As I understand that's different. Gotcha.
Yeah, I've been holding onto this "Raid Pass" thing since I got my account back, never had the opportunity to try it.

This list is wrong. Mewtwo only actually goes up to around 4000. There are a bunch of others (mostly legendaries, but also Slaking and Tyranitar) which should be on your list, but aren't.
-
@devjoe Must be an old one, thanks for the tip.
@Tsaukpaetra said in The Official Pokèmon Go Thread:

Yea I've hit a bit of a glass ceiling now because I don't take part in the larger raids. On the one hand it'd be good to get out in a group and tackle some big raids, on the other hand, lazy/tired.
-
@Tsaukpaetra
Each AI 'mon has a pattern and/or set of "tells" for its attacks (Slaking is a great example of a really obvious timing & tell pattern for its standard attack), and if you channel your inner Tinder user at the proper timing for a given attack, you'll dodge it and take less/no damage. I haven't really dodged a charge attack, to my knowledge, but getting the timing right for the quick attacks can save quite a bit of damage.Though, if the CP is close and you have type advantage, you can just fast tap the screen (for your quick attack) and face-tank the enemy while you build up charge meter, then unleash your charge attack and call it a win.
For me, with offensive type advantage, I find that just going HAM is sufficient to defeat a 'mon that's 1.5-2x my CP. If I have defensive type advantage as well, it gets a lot more lopsided. Of course, it's hard on the healing items, but from what I can tell, PoGo isn't really set up for true zero-damage-taken sweeping the same way as the mainline games
