Now I'm wondering who goes under the name Prius
Am I the only one who mentally associates that with Priapus?

Cars, major appliances, engagement rings, and houses immediately come to mind, for example.
Engagement rings, OK, but the other ones make sense. I mean...there are multiple major appliances, people often own multiple cars (especially those in families with multiple drivers) and people often have reasons to move.
But then...if you've bought an engagement ring, what about wedding rings? Anniversary jewelry? Birthday? Valentines? Christmas?
No, I don't understand your confusion here.
Indeed. I know someone who buy new racer car when the new car model become available for purchase, and trade back the car he previously own.
And for houses, maybe it would be strange to buy again elsewhere, but houses in Hong Kong are so expensive that most people now started with < 100 square feet small ones. It's perfectly reasonable to trade that back to buy a new one when they got married.

What? That is not a house. That is a closet. I have a shed larger than that to keep my lawnmower in. I know I am a shitlord and all that, but our 1 year old has a ~250 sq ft room. I cannot imagine my entire domicile being under 100 sq ft.
That's like...two prison cells.

Funny you should mention prison cells, because some people who live in the cage homes might prefer prison cells. Those are a bit rare, though, as most people can afford a subdivided flat
Also note that floor areas may be in quoted in GFA or NIA so you may have to take ~30% off for actual usable space
And when someone from Hong Kong uses the word "house", they typically mean "apartment" or "room" or whatever they happen to be living in

I assumed as much. A 100 sq ft house would be a yard barn.
But still. That is tiny. Even for an apartment.

With average house priced at HKD10,000 per square feet, even such small house is priced around HKD 1 million already.
Even if you can completely save all your income in bank and still taken money given by your parent to buy it, it'll still cost you a good few years to pay for it.

@cheong What is the exchange rate?
-
@Polygeekery Google says 13 US cents each.

1USD = 7.8HKD
-
@cheong Which puts a 100 sq. ft. apartment at about $128k US.

Jesus fuck.
I won't even tell you what we spent for 3600 sq ft on 1 acre. But...it wasn't within an order of magnitude of HK prices. Hell, it really wasn't much over a 100 sq ft closet in Hong Kong.

And dealerships seem to think people trade in their new car every 2 years or so for another new car
They're pretty disappointed in me... I go 8-10 years...

I used to. But it gets irritating the more things you have to name. I now save names for things with minds of their own, such as laptops and mobile phones.
I can't remember names anyways, so I don't bother (anymore).
