Ahhh....I didn't remember. To me stereotypical Irish is red hair, green eyes, and pale skin.

Well, ginger.
(I wonder if @apapadimoulis remembers that article. We do.)

Are you checking the IVs too?
How do you do that beyond doing the appraise?
-
@FrostCat There are a bunch of online calculators. The one I use is on pokeassistant.com. It asks for the type, CP, HP and dust to level for a Pokemon, plus which stats are highest according to the appraisal, and returns the probable IVs. Knowing the actual value from the appraisal can help you narrow it even further if necessary, and it has the option to refine the estimate by leveling the Pokemon and telling it the updated stats. I haven't found that too be necessary yet.

My husband told me (and I have been reading the subreddits) about the calculators and and that which skills each pokemon have matter.
I've read also...persevere your stardust. Don't power anything up until you hit level 30. The pokemon you catch at higher levels will always be stronger than the earlier ones.
Now I didn't know this for a little while, and I regret using as much as I did. My husband won't listen to me about and he powers up before evolving.
I'm 2 levels past him and he is amazed at the amount of stardust I have. You decide who you are going to listen to.
In all fairness, my job area is much better for pokehunting than our home and he works 5 minutes away.

I'm assuming the levels start tapering off after 15.
No, showing off is of you get there in a week or so.
-
This is after.... A month or two? Been playing on-and-off since about a week after it launched
EDIT: It says start time at the bottom. Derp.
-
@sloosecannon I've been playing a bit compulsively since it came out, but I'm cutting back now.
Also, go Team Mystic!

I'm Mystic...because my kids already were.

@Karla said in The Official Pokèmon Go Thread:
I probably wasted stardust on pokemon that aren't even in the 30 right now.
Using for my top 3 sense but those before I got those the top 3 were far more mediocre.
-
@Karla I don't really have a choice between saving and spending stardust if I actually want to try and take gyms to get coins. I don't live in an urban center, and I'm not going to spend real money to keep buying incubators for all the 2km eggs it gives (while also shafting me on distance walked) so the game effectively gives me the finger for that:
That's with me being level 20. When I was just level 5, I remember seeing people at level 16 or so with Pokémon as strong as my strongest sitting on gyms. It's only gotten worse as everyone around here is now 22-28.
Also, around where I live, gyms generally fall into one of two baskets: max level and seemingly never shifting (which sucks cause it'd be great to sit on and keep collecting coins), or getting taken over at least once every day (so you pretty much have to collect as soon as you get on it). The longest I've ever been on a gym is when I dropped my CP 50 Charmander (the starter I picked, and I've yet to get another one) on a gym as I passed by which sat there for 4 days. Every other time, I've never had a Pokémon stay on a gym for more than 4 hours.

2km eggs
Yeah, they really did a bad there not allowing you to discard eggs. Or at least turn them into 🌟...
-
@Tsaukpaetra I have three gyms within a reasonable distance from my home, but they're constantly switching hands. I go once a day to capture all three then collect the coins. I'm cheap. Holding a gym is impossible, since even one defeat lowers the prestige, and attackers get six pokemons to attack with. I prefer to take enemy gyms to training up blue ones to make room for a pokemon of my own, since training up is such a pain and so slow.

I don't battle much. We live over a gym (that does constantly change hands but is often blue) but the gps doesn't always allow my to do much.
I think I would have gotten bored with the game if I lived in a rural region.
I've spent money but I also spend money and gym membership and I have been more active with the game than the gym. I consider it worth it.

Yeah, there are times I want to discard the 2ks because they are all going to be something I have plenty of.

Well, I just learned something important, which obviously the game doesn't tell you. You don't actually need to land the pokeball in the colored ring to get the catch rate increase. According to pokeassistant.com: "Land the ball on the Pokemon when the ring is at its smallest. Whether you get bonus XP or not, you still get the catch chance modifier."
Also, "There is no evidence yet that Berries, "Nice Throws" or curve balls affect catch chance." So what are berries for then?
-

I thought that was the whole point of berries? I think my husband said it brings the inner circle to a lighter color.
I caught a Rhydon today! First time ever seeing one. My Rhydon will evolve higher but it was exciting and I had a lucky egg.
-
@Karla These are people obsessive enough to make a site detailing everything, and keep it updated. I'm sure if the berries had an obvious effect, they would have seen it.
-
@Karla It's probably broken, like so many other things in Pokemon Go. But it's possible they are supposed to make the pokemon make fewer evasion moves (making it easier to get the pokemon into the ball, regardless of whether it stays there). But if that is what it is supposed to do, I think it is still broken.
Rhydon does not evolve. It is the evolved form of Rhyhorn. I am level 27 and I have not seen enough Rhyhorns to evolve a Rhydon, but I did find and capture a wild Rhydon.
-
@Karla said in The Official Pokèmon Go Thread:

I don't live in a rural region. I live in the biggest city in my state. I just don't live "downtown", and apparently Niantic decided if you don't live in the urban centers (or live in a huge city), you get a shittier experience.
Seriously, as I said before, most of the gyms and Pokéstops where I live are churches or in graveyards. And a good 80% of the Pokémon I see to catch are Pidgey, Ratatta, and Weedle. I used to see more Drowzees and Venonats, but they're becoming less common, while I'm (gladly) seeing a few more Eevees, but I'm still not getting anything of note even while I'm doing exactly what the game wants: walking around. Seriously, my commute to work is on foot and the game gives me garbage and doesn't count 1/3 of my distance for doing so.
But even though I'm bitching, I'm still playing the game. But I'm not giving them any more money (gave them a total of $5 for coins just to buy bag upgrades since now I'm floating between 450 and 500 items depending on the route I take to/from work).

@ChaosTheEternal OK...yeah they really should do something for other areas.
I didn't really start playing until we were on vacation (I probably had 2 pokemon at that point) at the end of July. This was where the kids really showed me how to play. I'm they caught my starter and probably my second one.
We stayed in a fairly low populated area with no pokestops walking distances.
The local Walmart had tons of pokemon and walking around the area at the house got us some.

-
@aliceif The only time I named anything was to specifically get Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon. Otherwise, no, and I didn't name any Pokémon in the actual games either.
Maybe if I get something strong that I'd dump on a gym, I'll name it something, otherwise meh.

I get a lot of those too. They are good for stacking ...get whole bunch and evolve them real quick with a lucky egg.
I am so tired of Zubats I have like 8 Goldbats over 1000 cp.

Yeah. My keyboard is... interesting at times. Like, it apparently has
AWESOME
(yes, all caps) as preferred overawesome
(lowercase).I was probably shouting at someone at some point and it added that as a new word (and custom words usually prioritize over uncommon words).

I live about three miles from a major park in my part of Dallas, one that's got a dozen+ pokestops all nearby. There's also 4 or 5 gyms in walking distance. Where I live? Even though it's a densely-packed urban neighborhood full of apartments, there's one gym with one stop next to it, and another stop half a mile away. All I ever see on the tracking meter are rattatas and the like. (Theoretically there's a dratini nearby but it's inside a golf course so effectively unreachable.) Total wasteland.

I took my dog on a quarter-mile or so walk around my apartment complex at lunch today and got 0.01km on my egg.

I choose to read that as you evolve them out of spite.
-
@FrostCat I know the game does "delay" adding to the distance walked (I'll have eggs gain 0.3 or 0.4km hours later while I'm stationary at work) but I've mapped my walk via Google Maps and it says it's just shy of a 2km walk, yet I've never gotten an egg above 1.5km when I've walked to or from work (and usually end up at what should be 2.5km according to their tracking before the egg actually hatches).
-
I spend my evening in Pokemon heaven AKA Central Parks Grand Army Plaza.
Followed 3 swarms successfully and 1 not so much...it was much farther than I had anticipated (I will ask these things in the future) and I missed it.
Very productive.
