OK, at least I'm as white as you could possibly be. And yes, I'm just trolling.
NC is OK. But I hate driving through SC because they are freaking nazis for speeding.

Also incomprehensible to me: "I hate all seafood. I don't like how it tastes."
I have a pet theory on that involving non-sodium salts found in seawater and trimethylamine or TMA, which makes the 'fishy' smell. It's only produced as fish flesh depletes the available oxygen and ubiquitous marine bacteria begin to 'breathe' TMAO (TMA oxide) leaving the smelly TMA. If you've only ever had not-quite-perfectly-fresh fish TMA is the overwhelming flavor of all sea life, and it'll always be there unless you get really really fresh fish.
I quite like seafood. If brining a turkey for two days makes it taste better, brining a shrimp for its entire life must be even better-er.

Seafood tends to be really, especially good at getting salt out of their bodies while they're living, though. (Or they wouldn't be for long.)
Prawns are one of those items that really need to be seasoned well, or they're really bland and not very appealing.
-
@anotherusername Have you ever had whole shrimp? They need to be deveined or left to starve for a few days before eating because shrimp eat nasty shit but if you fry them with the heads on(in chili oil) the salty shrimp brain in the crunchy carapace is like a hot spicy seafood gusher. 10/10 delicious. the body has a very delicate flavor, though. Can be slightly sweet, but often is just nothingness. There's a reason we eat them with 'cocktail sauce' I guess.

I'd rather not eat the shells, thanks very much. And the heads... not sure if . You can keep them.

They won't be bland nothingness if they're boiled in a stock that has plenty of flavor. I did say good at getting salt out of their bodies while they're living...

I had them for the first time at a sushi restaurant. They're actually really good - not what I expected. (This sushi place fried up the heads when you got the raw shrimp sushi)

Would you like me to quote the relevant section of the Catechism, the one that says people who aren't straight should be treated with dignity regardless of their sinning ways (iow like you're supposed to treat everyone?)

I was making a joke, as mentioned in the fine print of the post you replied to. I know about the differences between the teachings of protestant churches and the beliefs and behavior of idiots who call themselves Christians, but neither read nor understood the Bible. So thanks for your offer, but it's really not necessary.
-

Pfft. Nobody reads fine print.
-

he teachings of protestant churches
"the Catechism" is the teaching of the one (Western) church that is most definitely not Protestant.

I'm kind of glad this thread is back, even if it's completely offtopic now.

Except mushrooms.

Coconut oil is also naturally somewhere between 4 and 10 SPF, so it can help you there too.
Raspberry seed oil has an SPF of ~24. It is not recommended to use sunscreen on babies younger than 6 months. The first summer for my daughter she had a long sleeve long legged sun suit, sun had, and kept her out of sun until ~3 PM.
Last year I tried mixing zinc oxide with conditioner because her hair was so thing and now she refused to wear a had.
I was primarily trying to get the mineral based sunscreens. But they are so thick and turn you even whiter.
I've loosened up on the everyday products. A light lotion with spf 15 on my way to work is fine.
-
@FrostCat Well, you should have specified which one you meant.
But maybe we should stop discussing that in this thread.

I'm dark enough to be able to tan if I do it slowly but I am so paranoid of skin cancer.
From what I've heard, the cancer risk is mostly just if you get sunburned. Gradually easing yourself into a tan is your best bet against it.
I have had pretty nasty burns as a kid. Sunscreen wasn't waterproof back than.
I constantly remind myself that she is getting way more protection than I ever did.
-
@asdf said in I hate Cilantro thread because why not?:

I did! That onebox says "a catechism", but I said "The Catechism", and obviously I'm talking about the Catholic one when I use the singular that way. Only some kind of heathen wouldn't kno--...oh, wait.
-
@Karla yeah, well you can put zinc oxide in anything and it becomes sunscreen...
-
@FrostCat said in I hate Cilantro thread because why not?:

How dare you use that catholicentric language! That's offensive to members of other religions, people with non-religious faiths and nihilists. Try to be more politically correct next time!
-
@anotherusername said in I hate Cilantro thread because why not?:

She has hair this year...so I am a little less worried now. Though since my hair is thin and short...I always wear a sunhat. One of my coworkers--told me she must take me shopping. Sun hats look pretty ridiculous. I don't care...I don't want skin cancer on my head.

The next time will be the first.

@Yamikuronue I do like the genetic defect that is my hazel eyes.
I did hope my daughter got my eyes.
Pale skin and straight hair...NO. There was no way I was reproducing with anyone that was not darker than me.
I do think she got some of my eyes even if not the color. My MIL had hazel eyes so it was possible husband had recessive genes for it.
Personality wise...she is a total mini-me. Stubborn, tough - I like it...but is not always easy to parent. At 3 she is already argueing with me.
-

It's also adorable when she repeats words that we shouldn't be saying around her.
She said "sit, Sit, SIt, SIT, really!!!"
She also likes the Nicki Minaj song "Starships." Plus the video is very colorful.
We have changed one of the lyrics to, "We are higher than a needle beetle."
Then that led me to think...if you are just exchanging curse word with other words, aren't you still cursing?

Can't find the video of the crazy Christian lady shouting "shut the front door!", but I did find these, which are equally ridiculous:
-
@error I liked some of them. I think when my big kids were younger we said something like Frazzle one or it could have been Fraggle.
When I do Nicki Minaj (and other rap) at karaoke there are other words to change too.
Though I would love if I could remember to call someone a needle beetle in an actual argument.
-
@Karla Apparently a needle beetle is a thing:
-
@Karla The video I couldn't find was ridiculous because the lady was yelling it so vehemently that it wasn't any better than saying the actual word. The same anger and hatred were channelled in, even if the words were changed.
On Rock Band, the songs are the radio edits... but the game will put an "overdrive activation" point where the swear words were. Basically, shouting anything at that point will activate your "overdrive" (bonus points) mode. Tacitly encouraging you to insert the words back into the song.

@error I've always been partial to "tartar sauce".
As a curse word. Actual tartar sauce is disgusting.

Over christmas I was visiting a friend whose wife was bemoaning the fact that her tree, which always used to be pristine, was now decorated by the children and didn't look as good as previous years.
I jokingly suggested they get another tree just for the kids, to which my friend replied "No, we're not getting another fucking tree". His 3 year old decided that "we're not getting another fucking tree" should be her mantra for the rest of the day
-
@Jaloopa Yeah...I am looking forward to that. At least right now she probably can't say fucking.

I hate olives. Immensely. If I get a small piece of olive I'll spit out the whole bite. Even when you take them off, the gross overpowering taste remains as a residue.
Initech is treating us all to lunch at a fancy Greek restaurant, so I decided to give black olives another chance, based mostly on this thread. I took a tiny bite of one.
OH GOD WHY? WHHYY? How do I get the taste out? So much worse than I remembered.
-
-
@error no. Black olives are delicious. And green olives. And green olives with garlic stuffed in them. And green olives with onion stuffed in them. And green olives with cheese stuffed in them. And ...
-
@anotherusername It took over an hour to get the gross taste out of my mouth. Espresso didn't even help.
