RE: Buying a car, tell me what's wrong with me.
Some nickles worth of free advice:
I want to buy Subaru Legacy. It's an AWD sedan, it looks nice, it's fairly cheap, it has lots of nice features such as heated side mirrors or huge ass center display, and 180HP is enough for me, a casual driver. A brief look over competitors in the same segment didn't reveal any other cars that have or are close to having all those qualities. Did I miss something? Are there better choices than Legacy?
If you want AWD and saftey scuba-rus are the way to go.
I want to buy it new. it seems used prices aren't much lower than new, so buying second hand seems pointless. Am I making a mistake?
New vs used is the usual how much did you loose driving off the lot. If you want to maximize savings, buy used. If you want newest new toy? Buy new.
I want to buy it soon. According to the internet, now is a very bad time to buy cars in general, although I couldn't find any actual data confirming that. Just how bad is the market currently? GPU cards level bad, lumber level bad, or just typical 2-5%-compared-to-last-year level bad? Is there any point to waiting?
Also, I want it blue. For a Subaru, blue Legacies are surprisingly rare in dealers' stock, it seems based on the websites. Do dealers order custom builds? Is it a good idea to ask a dealer for a custom build? Is there any room for negotiation after that? Or is it better to just order online from the manufacturer's website?
Dealers should allow you to "order" from them. From what I've seen, color stock is basically a crap-shoot given chip shortage. So if color is a blocker, have the dealer order otherwise just take what they have that you want. If you "order" you will be waiting a while.
Thanks in advance for any helpful info.
Edit: Also, this car has CVT transmission. How much pain in the ass is it going to be? The internet can't seem to agree on it - it either works flawlessly or it's utter garbage.
The sucba-ru CVTs dont seem much worse than other CVTs but I've been driving a Ford Hybrid-CVT for 8 years so take that for what it should be worth.

RE: Administration/Moderation Changes & New Admin Team Nominations
I certainly don't have a full picture on WTF is going on cause I haven't been round these parts in a while and I'm trying to piece things together.
@apapadimoulis The only, unsolicited, free nickle worth of advice(s) I would give is: "If you meet a jerk, that person is a jerk. If every person you meet is a jerk, you may be the jerk. Apply to all users." "Free speech according the US Constitution doesn't mean you get to yell and shit on my living room carpet, Free Speech according to the US Constitution means you can tell the government to go fuck itself, with a giant purple cactus, and use Lotus notes; they can't imprison you for that."
Maybe the forums needs the Bambi rule for the short term. "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." Or better, "If you think you can't express a difference of opinion without being a dick, re-write your post to not be a dick."
I know being an asshole is a feature of these forums but it seems things have reached the natural conclusion of "Everyone is an asshole and they ate Taco Bell!" Everyone is full of shit and it's leaking EVERYWHERE.

RE: Recommend to me things to do in NYC
@topspin Buy a hotdog from a hotdog cart vendor.
Get two slices of cheese pizza from a pizza shop.
Pretty much sums up NYC for me.
Well, that and yelling some shit at a random stranger on the street. Pretty sure that's a NYC requirement when you visit.

RE: MAK Office key and image cloning
@Rhywden I'm assuming you are currently using something like Clonezilla to capture the base images. In a perfect world you'd use the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit to build and maintain your images. However the documentation for that is all over the place and is more black-magic than trying to write a Windows Installer with the MSI API.
You may be a bit SOL with MAK activation. Looks like docs say you get n-activations then told to pound sand. I suppose you could try and do a Logon local GPO script that tries to match the MAC Address to the MAK license for the hardware but I don't know how well that would scale.

@HardwareGeek I feel your interpretation of the garage is reasonable, however my position was colored by the days so...that should explain that. Wasn't there a "super cereal" part of the forums for genuine debate or am I mis-remembering again? Now I feel old. @boomzilla this is your fault and I demand a refund.

It's only where people argue with ...[intentional omissision]... accuse the other of arguing in bad faith...[also intentional omission] that the Garage becomes toxic.
Wasn't the point of posting in Garage, that one waived good faith arguing? Did that change or am I just a dingus? I know I haven't been round these parts in awhile but I thought the point of the Garage was to leave you baggage at the door and Thunder-Dome-your-diffrences?

RE: Oracle-Connection hangs on executing a stored proc...
@iKnowItsLame Have you considered writing a quick and dirty version of your Powershell script as a Java app using the JDBC driver? As long as your sqlnet.ora is fairly vanilla you shouldn't have to dig to far into the documentation.
I only ask because it sounds like your bum-for-a-DBA can't be arsed to go check the alert log/listener log on the DEV-DB. That would be work and we can't have any of that!
Only other thing that jumps to mind is the DEV-DB is on a different patch level than the PROD-DB and the DEV-DB patch level requires clients to be patched up to a higher level than you are currently at.

Both Dicksauce and StackOverflow show he was clearly that beforehand.
Both revolve around The One True Way™, whether that is the way to ask and answer questions or the way to conduct a discussion, and both are more than willing to impose The One True Way™ on any godless infidels who are so unfortunate as to wander by. And though the community may choose some details, it is Jeff who defines, at least fundamentally, The One True Way™.

RE: Bad games you like
@Magus The combat system is complete garbage, and that is being generous. It uses a timed pattern (Additions in game) based system for basic attacks. I swear, the fault tolerance for that game is fucking sub 25ms response time. It also had battle load times that rivaled FF9 but lacked all of the glamour of FF that might gloss over it.
Basically LoD is a giant C-Rank game that really reminds me of a poor 3D-Tales of Destiny clone meets Super Mario RPG meets Final Fantasy 4. King of Mediocrity.
Yet I still enjoy dusting it off on my PlayStation TV.
-
RE: Bad games you like
@Magus Do not ever, under ANY circumstances, be tempted use a PSN sale to buy and attempt to complete this game. That is my one and only warning, because it is so rage-inducing that you "will" finish it; if for no reason other than to say, "Fuck you, Sony! I finished this radioactive turd, HAH! Wait, I just played with a radioactive turd....SHIT!"

Status Adding a certain quick-service food chain to the "only pay cash" after I visited their website and got the normal error of an ASP.NET stack dump and noticed local path information in output that looks like typical debugging in production symptoms.

Is it bad that I understood that?
Yes.
My interpretation of that comment is UNIX suddenly became a non-preemptive mutli-tasking multi-user OS that say, "Dear process, can you pretty please yield execution time? K thnx bye."
I clearly have no idea WTF that comment is supposed to represent. OSes are hard, let's go shopping?

RE: The new Nintendo Switch
@RaceProUK That's from the 1 2 Switch game which showcases the HD Rumble stuff. Switch's version of Wii Sports, not bundled, priced at $50.
I'm not convinced that mini-game, and even the Treehouse presentation isn't some kind of internal troll on the upper management. Dude on the left looks like he didn't get the memo it was simulate milking a cow; not milk the cow and simulate giving the bull fellatio. Then, the dude on right cops a feel of a non-existent cow tit.
