Targeted advertising fail

I was going to make a video response to @boomzilla's post but the video editor app built into Windows showed me this as a suggested album:
For those who haven't played Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, this is a screenshot of the scene where a crippled person sacrifices the robot she uses to walk in order to open a door.

How does she get through the door then?

I've been seeing this a lot on Facebook. I hope it belongs in this thread:
That depends on whether you think you need a crematorium soon, or if you’ve needed one recently but not anymore.
Though I have to say it’s the usual kind of fail for these kinds of ads anyway. It shows how nice their building is, but little about their services (well, other than they’re affordable and caring). It’s an improvement on similar adverts I see around where I live, however, which usually consist mainly of a portrait photo of the proprietor. Why would I choose a funeral director based on the person’s face?
-
@Gurth As opposed to what, before and after pictures of their clients?

Why would I choose a funeral director based on the person’s face?Because that's what people attending the funeral service will be talking about for the next few days?
- Ooh, my dear, did you see the pretty vase? I think it was from Ming dynasty, all those funny Greek symbols on it.
- But the color of curtains didn't match the napkins. A faux pas if I've ever seen one. Absolutely no pasarán, as the French say.
- Mah gahwd, the expression on dead aunt Erna's face was so rigid! It's like she didn't even care!

Neither one applies to me, AFAIK. But you have to wonder about what sort of big data shenanigans might be behind such an ad, like the dad who found out his daughter was pregnant from Target coupons.

Ever since, I've been receiving at least one email per month with special offers of student loans to cover my college tuition. Even though my college costs me zero.
I just got a call (which I sent to voicemail and listened to it there) the other day about how my college loan processor was out of compliance or something and I needed to call these guys to get everything straightened out. I've never had a college loan, so that's kind of interesting (my wife had a few but they were paid back a long time ago). I was tempted to call them back just for kicks.
That's like unironically telling the person with a heavy accent from Microsoft Support that it's strange that they're calling because you only have a Mac. Those are scammers, and they aren't making targeted calls at all. They just know that enough people have college loans to make cold calling worthwhile. Like most scammers, their cost per contact is very low and it only takes a few suckers to keep them in the black.
They're probably actually just trying to gather info to steal your identity and/or your credit. And on the off chance that they actually do have a legitimate product, their sales strategy of unsolicited calling is illegal and their product is undoubtedly a ripoff.

Of course. That's one reason why I call them back when I'm bored, to increase their costs.

I recently received snail-mail flyers from three different burial/cremation companies all on the same day. That was weird.

Nevermind on where I mentioned that YouTube seemed to be showing me varying ads ever since the Red subscription passed. Either Google really wants me to buy a phone because it takes pictures, or all their ads servers have returned to normal and don't know anything about my again.
Or both. Probably both.

Facebook served this up to me:
-
@boomzilla I see. You've been holding out on us!
When can we expect to hear you sing The Internationale?
-
YouTube.... what are you trying to tell me...?
-
@Tsaukpaetra a person who watches My Little Pony and plays creative VR games. What did you expect?

.... oh! Well, that too, but I already have a watchlist for that, ads don't affect it or reflect.

Google wants to know if I'm a gamer...
I wonder if this will make them stop serving up beer ads in YouTube....
-
Google really doesn't know where I've been.

Maybe you'll get ads for cheetos and mountain dew now…

Nope! But I don't doubt the intersectionality of all of the entries is greater than zero. Somehow.

I'm not falling for that!

YouTube seems to believe I speak spanish now, greater than 21 percent of unskippable ads are in español.
Great.
-
@Tsaukpaetra At least you live in a country where it's plausible a large part of the population would speak spanish. Sometimes I get bombarded with spanish ads, and/or gets the spanish version of websites because people get

confused.Edit: And yes, that includes Google. Who also have got

I'm not even sure what kind of phone this is...
