My first thought, Duck and Elk? How does that work out?
Clearly my taxonomic game needs work.
Britons do call that bigger animal Elk. I didn't think you were British though.

I have no idea what that is.
Neither did I, but it is what an image search for Figaro returned the most to me, so I figured most other people would either know; or understand through context.

My first though was also «'delk' on an elk?» but looking closer I realized that was a goose, so «møøse» came soon afterwards.

Look at the bottom right if it's not funny.
If still not funny, apply for refund.

Goose on a mooseI did figure it out before I posted. After the second time I saw it.
My post was intended to imply, that I am NOT an idiot for not seeing the obvious right away.
I make no claims on my idiocy any other time.

Genetically, pretty much:
And I am pretty sure when I was in Banff locals said Elk. I was one pretty close on my walk home from a bar (it gets dark early in February). Kept my distance...I may be an idiot sometimes, this was not one of them.

You're on my home turf. I have the advantage.
NYC is pretty easy to fake and go another way (assuming Manhattan) or jump on a train that closes just before you get there.
Some of the more modern "transit hubs" are mazes (but they have A/C and power outlets), some of the old ones are mazes too (but you have no chance of mapping those--just hope the signs aren't too confusing).

@Karla said in The Official Funny Stuff Thread™:
I am super curious what kind of grouping method would:
- separate France from "northwestern Europe";
- group England together with "northwestern Europe" but leave Scotland, Ireland and France as three distinct groups.
-
@Gąska A genetic grouping, obviously. It reflects from where significant part of the inhabitants of England came (some time maybe around 8th to 10th century).
-
@Bulb that raises more questions than it answers, but I'll cut it short before somebody yells at me not being funny.
-
@Gąska There may be some off-(hair-)colour joke to be made, but I don't see it and it would probably have to be taken into the . But I'll say that for what I vaguely remember of history it isn't surprising to me.

Maybe this gives you some closure:
Plenty of HTML tags in there, so it should have some available.

@acrow And this even more so I think:

I feel insulted by your assumption I didn't know any of this. No, that's not a closure, it's only a beginning.
So, Saxons and Vikings are "Northwestern Europe". Tell me then:
- Why do they not distinguish between the Saxons and the Vikings? Genetically they're no more similar than Irish and Scots.
- Does Sweden count as "Northwestern Europe"? What about Norway? Generally speaking, Sweden and Norway - the homeland of vikings - have several genetic traits that make them obviously distinct from the rest of Europe. Why group them up with the rest of Europe then?
- And if they aren't, then what is "Northwestern Europe" exactly? Just Germany, Denmark and Netherlands? Why not call it "Germany, Denmark and Netherlands" then, since neither western nor northern Europe is part of it?
- Why even bother with listing England as the place of origin? It makes as much sense as saying your family has genes from New York. There have been way too many migrations to make this info any useful.
- Does Normandy count as France or as Northwestern Europe? If it's France then their genetic groups suck; if it's not then their naming conventions suck.
-
-
@error There used to be a service called unv.is (now it redirects to anonfiles.com), which would strip out
allthe crap from whatever article you pointed it at, leaving only the content. Archive.is can also usually bypass paywalls, cookie notices etc, but it takes way longer as it has to download and mirror the thing, and only does so after waiting out your place in the queue.
-
@Gąska Look, we'd love to tell you a lot more. But it involves the differences in hygiene practices between certain peoples, historically, and the resultant genetic mixing (and lack thereof). And this is not the Garage.

@Carnage do you want to go back to the era of pages with minimal styling and whatever was done was inevitably inline and/or image use?
now that I mention it yes I probably would if https://motherfuckingwebsite.com/ or http://bettermotherfuckingwebsite.com/ (but probably not so much https://thebestmotherfucking.website/) are examples…
