RE: Vonkeror: the new web-browser
I made new version 0.2 now. Now there is a preference manager, and displays HTTP response codes, command for dealing with cache, and a few other stuff. But there is still a few bugs in this software, but I fixed some of them. But still you cannot edit HTTP headers, though. Maybe in next version I will add that.

Other people might think of same thing, but that isn't the case. The reason for the name Vonkeror is because I changed the C to the letter to the right of it on the QWERTY keyboard, which is V. I omit useless features and make useful features instead, instead of making too much user-friendly. Please read those files on my web-site for list of some of the features.I think he's just trying to create a browser using vi's interface design standards. hence the name Vonkeror ( Vi Konkeror ). Just for those still stuck in the past.

RE: Vonkeror: the new web-browser
If you have any question about usage, feel free to ask.
Other web-browser program are too much user-friendly, menu, toolbar, warning about stuff that you should really learn by yourself instead, etc. And I don't like it that modern software is made so the computer tries to think for you, instead of allowing the user to think for themself. That is one reason I made it difference, so that you can think by yourself. Almost everything is done by keyboard and if you can type fast then you can enter the command more faster also. My program is also much more customizable (including keybindings), and you don't have to write a extension. Vonkeror omits most things that are unnecessary, and includes some new features that other web-browser program doesn't have. Some of the features are listed at Vonkeror.txt and I am still making more! The more stuff added to development version on my computer but isn't the posted version yet, is available at next_version.php. I think this makes the Vonkeror much more useful than other web-browser program. I will post screen-shot of version 0.2 so you can see what some new things are.

Vonkeror: the new web-browser
I used to use Firefox but now I use Vonkeror and I am writing it myself, it is based on Conkeror and XUL-runner.http://zzo38computer.cjb.net/vonkeror/ Please make a comment of it, suggestion, bug report. There is no toolbar, menu bar, icons, menus, warning about phishing, or stupid thing like that. You have to push f12 [ if you want cookie management and f12 ] for bookmarks management. To save a image you push C-] i C-s and it number the images, you push the number of the one you want. There is no tooltip, instead it displays in mini-buffer. Next version: 0.2. I want you to post comment, please.

RE: SuperCAPTCHA
I would guess "431240" is the correct answer, but it isn't really clear if that is how it is supposed to be done or not, some people might think it is a different way that it is supposed to be done, and I don't know what the correct way is. Also you can't see all the numbers at once so you have to watch the animation twice. (I just checked now and it turns out I am correct. Even if the other fields aren't filled in, it will tell you whether or not the CAPTCHA is filled in correctly or not. Still, the numbers are badly timed, in my opinion (in your example, the 0 is too early and fast, for one thing, but maybe the bad timing is supposed to stop the computer from figuring out the answer by itself?). With better timing, it would be easier to enter the correct answer.)

RE: WTF requirement !
They could wait for ReactOS to be finished, and then add a function requiring a serial number to be entered (and any other modifications they want), and then sell that. It is allowed (because of GNU GPL), just they have to release the source-code as well
Also, the terms of service on that web-site are also seems stupid to me. You are not allowed to contact the Project Creator outside of that web-site, and you are not allowed to start working on the project before your bid is accepted.

RE: A fantastic career awaits in a dead-end unsupport langage :P
I sometimes use VB6. Of course VB6 has problems, some of which are fixed in VB.NET and some of which are broke more in VB.NET. But, one problem of VB.NET is that you have to register otherwise it stops in 30 days, it does that even if you download the express one that you don't have to pay. On my computer I don't use VB.NET but on someone's other computer I had to install it in order to do something but I couldn't fix the problem because it was Vista computer, which has too many problems (also I need a hotmail account for register, and I never received a validation on that hotmail account but for some reason it still worked anyways). I also don't know why you program in VB.NET anyways, if C#.NET should be a better way than VB.NET anyways. I think Forth is a better program language anyways. A Forth program can be anything, if you don't like one thing you can re-write it in Forth, like if you don't want THEN you want ENDIF instead you can do it like that : ENDIF POSTPONE THEN ; IMMEDIATE but in VB and C and C# and Python and everything else, it doesn't do like that.

I cannot understand why people think tacking "intellectual" on the front changes the meaning or makes it less credible. And when it comes to intellectual property, duplication without the consent of the creator is the same thing as theft. You're not even debating piracy, you're just trying to obscure your theft with synonyms.

I did find a SQL injection hole while trying to fix the database, and even after I fixed the database, the SQL injection hole is still there (it is a part of the PHP codes, not a part of the database), and obviously I do not own that web-site, so I cannot fix that hole. But it is irrelevant because the database access is not restricted anyways. Also, I don't know their telephone number, so I can't tell them to fix it either.Anyone who would put up phpmyadmin open the public Internet could just as easily open a million other holes.

RE: Database security (or not)
@danixdefcon5 said:
Of course I understand that! But there are two problems:Ok, it seems this is exactly the kind of thing addressed in some other thread about having databases with the default mysql "security": root with no password. Don't do it. Use passwords at the DB level. Don't just listen some "internet d00d" that says "you don't need DB security".
Well... then again, that point also assumed you didn't have public access to the DB admin, so there may be a point to that.
- I don't know how to change the password.
- Even if I did know how, I still don't know that company's telephone number, so I couldn't tell them what I changed the password to.

RE: Low level programming using system() calls
@Spectre said:
Still, the solution is obviously a WTF; the proper one, I suppose, would be to either use a CRLF-delimited input on Windows and LF-delimited on Unix in the first place, or use LF-delimited files on both systems and open the file in binary mode.
Or, you can open the file in binary mode and strip carriage returns while reading it. If you do that, files created on either system will still read either system as well. -
RE: VBA String to Function Call
@Merkidemis said:
There is a way to call a function based on a string though in VBA, but it is very complicated and requires you to do self-modifying code using the VBIDE object, so you should avoid that way if possible. A better way would be to use the ScriptControl object instead. Make sure your functions are in a class module, and then create a ScriptControl object, add an object of that class, and then call the function by name through the ScriptControl.Is there a way to call a function based on a string in VBA? For example:
Dim func as String
func = "getResults"
Call func

RE: Doing stuff at home,
I do write many programs at home. Usually for myself but sometimes I do what someone else asks of me, and expects it to take a few days but it takes only half an hour or so and they say it is a good program. You don't need a team of programmers to write a program and you don't need a year. Just a few days or hours and 1 person is enough to write a program. Sometimes I make mistake, but then later I will learn better. Real programmers to not need to take a class at school to learn programming. One day, I was hired at a company to make a time-sheets system and they expect it to take a few weeks but it only took a few hours and it had more and better function than they expected, and then I would go home. A real programmer is someone with a natural sense of algorithm, and also, real programmers spend 70 percent of their work day fiddling around and then get more done in the other 30 percent than a user could get done in a week. This is a quote but I know it is true because I have always been like that and now I realized other people are like that as well and can make a quotation about it.

I don't need more helium, the balloons do rise properly up, it just can't be pushed left and right! I have a Forth-style codes in "hearts.cl" file but I think the real problem is "move.php" file. Even though both files look correct to me. The Forth-style programming works properly as far as I can see, and even if I remove that Forth-style codes for BALLOON class, you still can't push balloon left and right (whether or not you can push it has to do with the class attributes, and the "move.php" check the weight/strength/inertia/shovable values to see how far it can be pushed and how strong you have to be to move it). The hero is strong enough to move the balloon and himself at same time, so why doesn't it work? X-BIT closing
The X-Bit BBS will be closing its doors.
X-Bit BBS members: its been my great honor to offer you The X-Bit BBS. I can't even begin to explain how much enjoyment its brought me over the years building her for you.
In 1993 I created my first BBS named '32-Bit BBS'. It was a popular 1-node system in Oregon running Spitfire BBS software. I shut it down in 1997 like most sysops due to internet popularity. In 2001 I was cleaning up my office when I ran across all my old BBS door game registrations.. BRE, LORD, Ext :) so I gave a quick internet lookup to see if there was any window or linux based BBS software available abd it didn't take long to find Synchronet software. The X-BIT BBS was born!
Close to 400,000 log-in later, I feel it's time to move on (for now). Thank you, the callers, so much for making X-Bit you home. Soon after X-Bit hit's 400,000 logon's we will close.

Seconded.The real problem of flash is just a liiitle thing: it's ass to navigate.
You are rarely able to select or copy anything, the context menu is fucked up, scrolling rarely does what it should do, it's fixed layout (ever gone to a site "optimized" for 640x480?),
shittyartistic fonts, clever navigation, et cetera.I'm not against using flash, but I'm against flash sites. And if you could prove the existence of a usable flash site please do.
In short, unless you are the brother chaps, don't make a flash site.
I absolutely HATE those sites full of flashy flash stuff for all the reasons stated above! Unless you're actually putting multimedia stuff in the flash frame, don't use it. Some freaking sites don't understand though, and they're rendered unreadable from, say, my BlackBerry. They're also impossible to aggregate, bookmark, and do anything web-related to them. Might as well have the entire site inside a Java applet!
Flash-only sites are a sign of a lazy or useless webmaster. Usually some graphical designer that has no idea of how the web works. At least one of the few good things for Web 2.0 is that its taking the web developers away from Flash.
