I thought "Dalit" was the non-offensive term. What is it acceptable to call them? Surely "untouchable" is no longer acceptable.
Just call them people. Why is caste of any concerning nature to anyone?
Temples are now open to everyone

Do you really think that will help? I think it would just result in another blakeyrant.
One must read. How else can you get educated?
So seriously, which one of you bastards sock puppet Nagesh?
That quasi-sentence makes as much sense as one of Nagesh's posts.
I am morbiuswilters only, but much better looking in person.
Is that why you bet me $20 that I couldn't juggle all those guns yesterday? I wondered what the catch was, because some of them weren't even loaded.
I am hoping you took some safety precautions when juggling them. You are never to know, when an action might trigger off something.
How does it know?
That is one good question. I suppose it is having some kind of algorithm to cover max number of users, max un-linked replies or maybe it is just random. If it is random, then that is sad. An algorithm could explain a few things.
This is an interesting problem not sure how we would solve it. If we let you keep your place you could get super confused and think the post did not work.
What happens if I have 2000 posts to catch up? People are on some kind of posting frenzy and that is what is causing conversation to get lost. I only made that comment already here.

Seriously man, I just got my shirt with TDWTF logo on it - then you're going to go and change it?
Thank your deity that you didn't get a permanent tattoo.
@Lorne_Kates You're saying this like all member's posts are having some valuable content in them. I think you can get @ben_lubar macro posting engine and just make some stuff up.
No, I'm sure they will email you the ads by return
Yes, then I shall be very happy and in return for my happiness, they can have my eye-balls glued to their content.

I'm mostly happy that blakeyrat is settling into his Keith Olberman role here. There's also something to be said for staying at or near the top of the list for a long time. Sometimes you just need to know that you haven't gone soft.
Is this reference to courage like "The GodFather" movie, or this is some thingly welled reference to your body part?
I come here for the ads. So I hope this fancy feature doesn't take them away from us.
Yes this is the viewpoint I am mostly subscribing to. Stack flow discussions are different since they are in Q & A format. Here our discussions go on for years and years. If we lived to be 100 and some of us might be already 100, we will still be having same discussion started in 1914 about rifles issued in World War I.
Because this system seems to be built around the idea that a discussion should be limited to a narrow topic rather than branching and looping like actual discussions do (which might be useful for some things, but then the buttons should be labeled differently).
Why is there such a thing as "the wrong reply button"?
I cannot believe that Jeff Atwood would forget this important feature of blocking other users. This is almost a necessity in certain case where user start to bully other users or get on their nerves.

@PJHH This is the thread you want to merge in here.
http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/private-messaging-is-probably-not-working/333
The truth hurts, doesn't it?
Is that some line from Hollywood movie, where Jack is shouting at Tom ? Famous line in famous movie.
I just clicked Summarize for this thread. I don't understand the utility. It just collapses a bunch of random posts. How does it decide which posts to keep? It collapsed my "disgusting miscreant" post, so I did have a chuckle when I opened that mystery bar.
It's really not faster, though. Still loads items the same way, except now the forum lies about how long the thread is, and sometimes you see a bar that says "n posts hidden"
Summarize mode is only useful in case of thread that is not derailed. Once derailed summarized mode as useful as brake on car that does not have wheel in first place.
What the fuck are you talking about? Did I say anything about Private Messages?
Why don't you make attempt to read properly? Are you also <mark>suffering from </mark> some kind of ailment?
That could be very useful. I notice you have a tag section on there. What's the what with respect to getting tags in Discourse?[tag:This should just work]
Tried that, but it doesn't work. The tag I mean.
<pre><mark>ALRIGHT I DID</mark></pre>
@morbiuswilters <mark>How did you do the highlighting
thing?
The PM system going forth to be called as PMS is working fine.
Bug: There is no way to merge threads..
That is not a bug as I can confirm that I have received 3 private messages.
Ok. You can close this. I have received 3 private messages, just not from the people I messaged.
Private messaging is not working. Please see my post in META for the same. Please merge that to this thread.
Edit: Close. PMS is working fine.
I sent 5 messages to various people on the forum, randomly and nobody has replied. It clearly means that they are not receiving the messages.
Please look into this ASAP.
Yes, the rate he's paying official beta testers is very generous. I'm surprised he's able to afford it, since I doubt these forums generate any revenue.
Hey my post about receiving payments has caused some flare-ups in our community.
Please don't talk about the money, is the private message I have received from Alex P.
I can't decide if I like this more than the traditional phrasing...
If you like it don't forget to click the Like link.
Has any one filed the bug report on multi-level quoting or should I do that first?
On some days, Ben Lumbar is getting on my nervous system. I want to block him.
Discourse told me I should make a topic because there are no new topics. I think this rule may lead to spam. Also, how does one create tags?
After making severe posts on everything that this new software is, I think tags are all overrated. Also three big cheers to the guys who made Discourse and coming here to support it as well. I am eagerly waiting for our forum to get listed here. Once we get there, we are made.

"Allow dalit to apply cold water to burn"
Calling people names is like living in last century. In this century we don't use words like "Dalit" to denigrate anymore. Just like AmericaN culture don't socially accept certain words, Indian culture is also changing.
Did you actually read that link that you posted? That's not what it says at all. Like, not even close.
if I read too close, then I won't be able to derail the thread. isn't that prime requirement of thedailywtf forums?
My attempt

My account name is indeed the full too_many_usernames. See the rest of the discussions on the foolish reasons why the display name is truncated. So I guess my whole name will show up again when they remove that silly 15-character restriction.
ok. cos too_many_userna just reading silly to me.
Also if you listen to books while doing your commute thing, then when will you listen to news or FM radio?
I understand how Intercourse could seem cool if your country doesn't have indoor plumbing.
It is clear that your knowledge of my country is limited. No worries. With enough reading material available today, anyone can learn almost anything, if one is having the will to try. Without will, you will keep thinking about how your life is stuck in one spot and no where to go.

What the heck is with the restriction in number of characters on the "short" username? Also, since the box says I should criticize ideas: I criticize the idea of Discourse.
(I'm going nuts with everything I type being echoed in that second box off to the right... stupid "preview" window...)
how come you did not get too_many_usernames as your account name?
In true TDWTF tradition, I anonymused this tale with character from Tom Sharpe's book.
Mrs Els. Mr Verkamp. Offshore. My vote is Saudi Hollandi Bank.
Most experienced developer on team has gone on vacation. User calls Analyst in Bank Operations department. Analyst calls a person working onshore, who calls Nagesh.
Person Working Offshore: User is saying contracts are not getting printed correctly.
Nagesh: Is printer out of paper? New printer driver software installed? Printer is switched off? Any of following?
PWO: let me check.
30 minutes later.
PWO: None of the above things.
Nagesh: What is happening?
PWO: Let me get the user and find out.
40 minutes later.
PWO: Naggy, old chap, I have user Miss Hazlestone on the line. Also we have our analyst, Mrs. Els and her manager Mr. Verkamp on the bridge
Nagesh: Ok. What seems to be the problem?
Miss Hazlestone: I printed one contract # 300 and the items on the contract don't match.
Nagesh runs query on database.
Nagesh: I see there are 18 items on this contract that started on 10-Jun-2011.
Mrs. Els: That is just plain wrong.
Mr Verkamp: Would you clarify that Mrs. Els?
Miss Hazlestone: Customer already returned 6 items, so contract should print 12 items instead of 18.
Nagesh looks at code.
Nagesh: I don't see any special condition in source code that is ignoring any returned items.
PWO: It looks like Miss Hazlestone has found a bug.
Nagesh: Are we sure? Perhaps we should call the person on leave.
Mr. Verkamp: We are paying good money to your company, so I want this bug fixed by morning.
Miss Hazlestone: This should have never happened.
Mrs Els: I can't believe "legal" signed off on this.
Nagesh types in IM to PWO - "Perhaps you should have got someone from legal department as well".
PWO types back: Just make the change. I will push to production under "bug fix".
Nagesh makes code change and commits code to database.
1 week later.
Main developer returns.
MD: I am finding that you have one commit made at 3:00 AM
Nagesh: Yes, something about terminated items on a contract.
MD: Was the client's legal department involved?
Nagesh: No. I asked PWO if he wanted to and he said no.
1 week later.
Another meeting.
Miss Hazlestone: I found this bug.
Legal Dept Man: This is not a bug. This is how it is supposed to work. You cannot change the contents of a contract. It has to look the same way as it did on the day it was printed.
Mrs Els: I did want to run this through legal when she brought it up.
Mr Verkamp: What are we talking about?
PWO is not present in the meeting.
Blame is pointed to PWO who is promptly released from project. Fix is rolled back. MD looks like hero.
is it true that you can never truly UNinstall the chrome browser from your pc?
I had the same issue, I don't think we all got imported from the old forum. Clearly some of us are more equal than others
Yes. Alex Paapi also made me create a new account. I am very much excited to be receiving money for testing discourse.
And if you are a ninja, you can enter topics at the top or bottom by clicking on the date of first or last post in the topic list.
I am not a ninja so I am falling at this terribly.
Are we sure Nagesh isn't just a brilliant troll?
Sorry, no brilliance here as per my college professor. I could not get into IIT which is my second bigger failure after failing to get into Airforce.
He may be a troll, but I'm pretty sure he's not a brillant anything.
Fact is I am astute observer of human behavior and that is all there is to it. I am also well read in different expects of life.
I think it's too heavily influenced by Stack Overflow, Jeff Atwood's former pet project before he moved to Discourse. Stack Overflow though, actually improved over what it was copying. In SO, this probably works great as you have 1 question which is the central topic. In any forum with more than a handful of replies per thread... Not so much...
Good observation I see.
It's the open source philosophy! If you want a feature they don't have, the correct answer is always: you don't really need that feature.
Why are you not reading ESR's the bazaar and the cathedral?
You will like it. I am promising this already.
Yes, the spectate swamp thread would go on and on forever. it would never end, especially since the latest post goes to the bottom of the thingy and who wants to scroll forever? SpecateSwamp would go away to another forum to get laughed at and thedailywtf would lose entertainment value.
One flaw I am also noticing is that the conversations tend to get lost unless you're quoting the previous post.
You're high enough as it is, buddy.

But seriously, see here.
Useful, but when I quote you, the link is eaten by the software.
