On another note, what kind of crappy-ass server do you need to be taken down by the "Digg Effect"? I've got TDWTF running on a single-proc P4 3.0 w/ 1G RAM.
I suspect quite a few of the sites taken down by Digg are hosted on shared servers, and sometimes the admin of those machines just pulls the plug. (Sometimes there will be a page there telling you that the account's bandwidth ration was exceeded.)There was one story a few months ago about an old Mac serving a web site (classic Mac, 68K processor family, I think). In spite of the machine's age and specs, and in spite of Digg, it was still gamely serving pages. It was slow, the images mostly timed out, and you had to retry, but it hung in there.
