Ice-cold whiskey??
A special machine just for ruining whiskey?
pick the safe speed and ■■■■■■■ traffic being happy. they can pass you if they think you're going too slow.
Nope. I can look around and figure out if I'm part of the problem or part of the solution.
If a little extra hurry on my part calms things down around me, that's better for all concerned, and I'll do it.
Note, "little extra" - I'm not flooring it just to accommodate the Belgians.
Dear Santa @Boomzilla can I have one of those bright red Rubik's cubes under my tree this year ;)
FrostCat:
What about the case where you're already going slow, eh? I once lost control--on ice, actually, not in water--on a turn where I had already slowed down well below the normal speed, and wound up hitting a tree in the median. As with all things, I don't think there can ever be an absolute black/white. Obviously, if you're going a reasonable (uh oh, there's that word...) speed for conditions and still end up hydroplaning, I don't think you can be held to the same level of accountability as if you were speeding. Some accidents are accidents. Speeding is not accidental.
I find it particularly... um, Fun?,... when you get to pick between going at a speed that keeps traffic around you reasonably happy, and going at a safe speed.
Three+ seasons of the year - left lanes here I come.
Snow - I got no idea what you people are going to try next - the right lane is my friend.
ah... sad. yeah it does get gummy all to heck. but at
I actually got the screen for blurping tomato sauce, since I like to cook it in my cast-iron skillet. (And like the red-beans and rice, I like to simmer it for a goood long while.)
Dang I'm hungry now. Friday's are usually for cleaning out the fridge.
 , can't we have a  !? Why :( is not sad?

I just said to the wife last night that it was about time to cook up a pot of red beans and rice. When winter comes on, I always get a craving for it. There is a place here that has really good andouille sausage which is pretty amazing in it.
Love it. Somehow, my wife and I cook it from the same recipe and it comes out waaaaaay different.
I let it cook a long, long time.
i'm told by the parents that usually do the cooking that no it isn't.
Wife thinks it's very amusing - insists that I get to clean up.
Actually, except for cleaning the precious stove, I actually do most of the clean up. "Most"? ...mmm... to be safe I should say "a lot".
I personally go for one of these and the problem seems to go away.
Have one. Get's gummy, Wife hates. Had one - I think it's "lost".
red beans and rice.
The absolute best side in fast food. (Top five at least!!)
And it's more of a reward for the kids to go out.
nods.
Do you get things like this in the States?
I know - the idea of sticking your chicken in a bag and then the oven sounds bonkers, and I wasn't convinced either, but the chicken comes out perfectly.
Used to at least. My mother did chicken like that a lot.
it's not difficult,
I don't think there's any one reason it's not on the menu - except maybe if Dad cooks it, I'll get every single corner of the kitchen dirty!
Raw chicken!
Egg
Flour - lots of Flour
Hot - spattering - oil!
Cooking's not hard - organizing cooking is hard (for me).
Looking for

and bonus: how easy it is to get s when you're trying to type oil well.
Thanks discourse!! Pretty fun, but not super useful.
i was referring to their preference for popeyes over home fried stuff
Aaaaaaaaaaaaah!
Just how it is!
It's not even a preference, for whatever reason, we just don't have fried chicken at home. Come-to-think of it - they get tenders anyway!
They like Dad to take them out, and they like Popeye's because it's spicy.
<img src="/uploads/default/11213/52e50e39d07830d5.png" width="259" height="194">
Actually, I'm pretty much always looking for reasons to reward them and treat them special..
Since I'm also always nagging them about cleaning up and doing homework, and eating right, and who their friends are, and do you think you're going out of the house dressed like that, tie your shoes! ;)
Exactly. Plus, the boneless version omits the skin, which is the best part.
...oh, yea, the stuff that holds on the spicy crispiness..gaaaah!
Forgot, 'cuz we don't fry it at home...my boyz like to get Popeye's when they've earned a going-out lunch
Oh, yeah. I made that mistake once.
Mistake?
They are tasty and delicious!! Just about anyplace the recipe calls for boneless breasts, use thighs instead and you'll avoid having a dried-out and tasteless chicken dish.
OTOH You're apparently making actual Fried Chicken™
So yea, you need the handles for eating!
I need to pay more attention to what I'm grabbing at the store.
Generally good advice.
BTW - keep an eye for boneless chicken thighs!
First world problem: Bought VIP tickets to wrong beer festival.
The Natty Bo thread is over

Beer? Don't y'all have 'shine uppin de hills thar? ;)
I saw a Band's Tour Bus this morning - looked liked Pantera or somebody - wonder if they're playing at your festival...
Doesn't sound very fixed.
After only selling $1.00 items for two weeks,
it sold me poptarts. You may debate whether that is good or bad, tho.
My
problem: I am eating poptarts for 2nd breakfast.

It stole two dimes from me... :(
You were looking for something cool to buy...

Any non-trivial project takes a minimum of three trips to Home Depot. That's one of the fundamental laws of DIY. You could buy the entire B*****ming store on your first trip, and you'd still have to go back because you'd need something that was out of stock.
Every project takes n+1 trips to the Despot.
Status: hoping I can make enough room in the basement for that Harbor Freight workbench that's on sale...

Yes. $60 is pretty much $0.
So, either they raise more, or they buy $60 of pizza and beer and turn out the lights. ;)

Didn't you think you'd be flying Pan-Am to the moon by now?
Pan-Am doesn't even exist any more!
Yes it does.
Nope, gone again.
I think someone's operating as Pan-Am again, tho.
And yes, I actually do appreciate all the "invisible" progress required to get what looks like incremental progress.
I mean think about laser-printer toner, amazing.

Probably wouldn't buy enough pizza to hire the guys to help you turn out the lights and shut the place down.
Hey, have you contributed money to save the Pacific Tree Octopus?
Oddly, my kids brought this up just last night... teacher gave a "quiz" on which of these three internet things is real...
mini-IJIJ: "No, Dad, it's real!"
IJIJ: "I know it is."
mini-IJIJ: "You do?"
IJIJ: "Yes. The PTO is, in fact, a real internet hoax."
I'm never entirely sure they've heard the teachers entirely right, or whether they're pulling my leg.
Just like around here.

Yea, but c'mon as a pre-71 kid...
Some part of you pretty much expected there to be several awesome Space Stations, and some moon bases, and SST's zooming all around, underwater cities, Fusion, and sub-saharan Africa irrigated into a lush wonderland by now, right?
On the plus side:
Our Dick Tracy 2-way wrist-radios are way cooler than we thought they'd be and fit in our pockets.
I'd have no cell membranes, and that would not be good.
And it's just that kind of in-the-box thinking that would keep me from hiring you.
Since Sam isn't helping me self-ban...
I will further risk what little cred I may have!
Just saw Marc Lenard as a guest on "Gunsmoke"
A favorite line from TOS where he plays a Romulan commander...
Kirk has been yelling at him that they can beam his crew off his crippled ship...
ML: "No, Captain. That is not the way of my people."
TOS had cool aliens.
Changing the bulbs should be relatively easy.
It should be. Depends on the car. Mine has lots of fiddly clips, springs and levers that you have to manipulate with one hand in a space less than inch across.
My mechanic looked at me like I had a screw loose when I asked him to change the headlamps on my Mazda - he didn't want to rip me off doing something so trivial.
When I picked up the car, he acted like he had the screw loose for taking on such a lousy job for so little money.
Nothing Planet of the Apes is on Netflix.
I can only check for whether it exists, not whether it exists on Netflix...
why yes i am an idiot, aren't I.
My excuses: early-time of day, fever,... No. There are no excuses for such an error.
@Sam, how do I self-ban?
I feared that seeing an animated Roddy McDowall might lead you to watch and regale us with another animated series... but he didn't do a voice in that so obviously I completely missed your point....
Out of all the films, Star Trek V is the one that plays most like an episode of the series, I guess is why I like it.)
ST3 felt most like an episode to me...(which is why I liked it.)
Albeit it too much was going on for it to be one episode.
"Let me guess, they don't have money in the 23rd century?"
"Well... we don't"
"No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in Space".
- Roddy McDowall
...an animated Roddy McDowall... hmmm...
no, let's not get any ideas from that
[Setting: DC beltway headed to Legion bridge - 4 lanes each way, jersey-wall separating the directions, minimal inside shoulder. Pre-dawn hours]
So, tooling along in the 2nd-leftist/fastest lane. Flicker of motion to my left... a guy passing smartly by, hmm, no problem, there's an empty lane between me and him.
Wuuuut?
70+mph on the shoulder.
I guess he had something stuck to his mirror he was trying to scrape off.
I still think yes. There are plenty of people who would cut out of that lane at the very end;As for the 5am thing... I
It's a funny lane - nobody cuts out at the end, a lot of people cut in at certain hours.
I actually am super-pedantic about using my signals, even at 5 am or when there's "nobody" in the lane next to me. Because there have been "somebody"s that I didn't see.
And I have actually noticed some areas on my commute where people have started to copy the signaling. :-O shocks me too.
It's the conflicting pedantics that leave me scratching my head.
My turn signal pet peeve is people who deliberately do not use their turn signal because they are in a turn-only lane.
I have this every workday...a turn-only lane which becomes a highway on ramp,
BUT ~50 feet before that, there's a rarely-used cross-street.
Do I use my signal or not?
It seems super-pedantic, even to me, to wait til after the cross-street and then signal for about .2 seconds before hitting the ramp.... worse, it's 5am, there's no one around to care.
Who's "U"? (Me? Because I never said anything remotely like that.)
Alrighty then, improper inference on my part...
and back to my usual programming of bad type casting and out-of-memory errors.
Explain to them that it used to be impossible to watch these episodes any faster than once a week,
