The "That's just sad" thread
Who knows how we went this long without one, but I'll kick it off:

Things I wish I could say to my customers
Today's entry: "What do you think is more likely? That the code magically started working a different way, without an update, or you're wrong about how it works and I'm right? Keep in mind that I have just re-read it before I replied to you."

My application is Windows!
Client $user1 calls in today, says it's been a while since he used our application and he can't log in. I tell him how to have $user2 reset his password. 5 minutes later $user2 calls and says it didn't work. I ask what happened, she says "he got an error that says it failed." That's about as much detail as $user2 usually provides. She's a nice person but about as sharp as a sack of wet kittens. I told her I need a screenshot. Two minutes later I get an email with the Windows "your credentials are incorrect, please try again". So this guy tried to log into a different computer to run the app--I guess it's not installed on his PC--and forgot the Windows logon. I told them I can't help them with that, they need to have their IT reset the guy's Windows password.

I don't think I should be able to edit someone else's post!
I got "you are not permitted to view this resource" when clicking Save, which is probably good.
I'm not sure how I managed to get in this state so I can't repro it, but it seems like a potentially entertaining bug.

RE: The Official Status Thread
Status: Got a "bill" from the hospital where my wife went in the ER in March and spent the weekend. My insurance paid ~$1500 of a ~4000 bill. The way this works, I'm not responsible for the remainder, but the assholes sent me a bill anyway, with a note exhorting me to appeal the decision.
Since I'm not an entirely unreasonable person, I did NOT call them up and yell "maybe if you'd done a better job she'd still be alive." Instead, I called my insurance to verify that, as I thought, I do not owe them any more and they can't bill me. They told me that when this happens, I can call them, and they will actually call the provider and renegotiate so the latter gets more money. Unfortunately I threw out the bill, so I guess the hospital will have to wait until next month.
On a more humorous note, I posted a picture of the urn I got on FB. I almost posted it from her account and wrote "here's my new house!" I figure I'd get yelled at, though.

RE: The "unclear on the concept" topic
This is the gibberish she wrote back to me: "What you are saying makes sense regarding how the system works; however, if identifying this change to [thing] effective 1/31/16 is concerning. This change does not take effective until 2/1/16; however, the last day of [thing] is 1/31/16 and we do not want the [thing] to show as being [effective in] the month of February 2016. If we use the date of 2/1/16 as the [thing] termination date, we suspect that the [report will show] as if [the thing was still active] in February (this is what happened for 2015). Can you advise which is the best method to follow?"
Yes, the solution is what i just told you not 5 minutes ago: when you make your new record, make the start and stop dates be 1/31. You cannot have the stop date be 1/31 and the start date be in February, and if you set both dates to be in February, you will get the exact thing you don't want in the report, because that's how the report works! If you create a record that says [thing] is active in February, the activity report will indeed show [thing] being active in February. Since [thing] ended in January, the proper stop date to use is the last day of January.
My reply centered around the sentence "You cannot stop [thing] before it starts."

Yeah, that son of a bitch, thinking you'd want the facilities that everyone, ever, wants, instead of just living in a box.

Whoever's running Hillary's Twitter feed needs to stop trying to taunt Donald. This is not the first time she's tried to zap him only to have him hit her wannabe-fastball out of the park.
ETA: Might be fake--no timestamps. I scanned back 3-4 days of his timeline and didn't see that post, not that that's any kind of exhaustive analysis.

RE: :wtf: How can this be so wrong??? (AKA the Discopocalypse thread)
Any time I hear "we run a particular version of X" it make me want to reach for my revolver. (I see a lot of this in the ERP world: "You must use Progress 10.2A06 with this list of hotfixes or the application won't work!")
Meanwhile my company's application will work with any point release of Progress released since like 2001. Why? Because we made the tiniest amount of effort not to use version-specific quirks. There's some minor drawbacks in that we can't take advantage of new language features, but there haven't been that many that wouldn't also require code rewrites.

@Gąska said in Why is it "disgusting" to drink breast milk?:
There are some mothers who breastfeed their children way beyond the point when they should.
When my wife was pregnant with our first child, the doctor said "when your kid comes home with a friend and offers a snack, that's when it's time to quit breastfeeding".

RE: 🙅 THE BAD IDEAS THREAD
The latest Windows build includes some entertaining bugs:
- We know this one will be a bit painful but there is a bug with this build in which Win32 (desktop) apps won’t launch from the Start menu.
- The version of the Mail and Calendar apps included in this build (17.4008.42281.0) have a known issue that causes every typed letter to appear twice. Which might be funny if it weren’t so irritating.
No word on if it fucking deletes two characters every time you hit backspace.

twins
Listen, the nice thing about twins is you only have to go through pregnancy once, but you get a bonus kid at the end. It's efficient.
Well, that's what I told my wife.

RE:  The Official Dad Jokes Thread™
I remember when I was a kid, someone's dad's name was Joe and whenever he heard kids saying that they were joking he'd say, "No. I'm Joe King!"
I had a friend in high school who actually was named Joe King. He was in the same homeroom with Holly don't-forget-to-say-her-middle-name-Anne Wood and I swear I'm not making any of that up.
