RE: Someone didn't know about case statments..
Yeah, the title is wrong, as the fix is elseif, not case. Or at least the indenting could have been done in a saner way so it doesn't creep to the right. Imagine adding a few new features - before long, the code will be off the side of the screen.

RE: Mashup Challenge $100,000 prize - WTF if Spectate Swamp wins?
I started on VB6... made some interesting and fairly playable 2d tiled games. Once I realised that using activex controls for each level of the game was a bad idea, and found how to use GDI calls instead of moving image boxes around a form, things went a bit better, though I still had the nasty habit of making a form for each level and then copy-pasting the game logic between each form whenever I added a feature. Actually, I eventually grew out of that too, and then got a decent level designer (which saved text to a file - each tile had three numbers which either describe what sort of terrain and object were there, or other things depending on what sort of object it was... yeah it was messy). Then I grew out of using VB. While I never used classes, I never used gotos either - even then I knew better. Though I do have vague memories of declaring loop variables globally, and then discovering that this was a bad idea when a loop in a function disrupted the loop in the function that called it. Anyhow, it was an interesting learning experience, and I had fun without annoying anyone else in the process :D

Foiled again!Hmm... try again but if you still can't find the any key, wrap it in foil (aluminum of course, since the keyboard is made of that) (or aluminium if you live in a more civilised place :P) while it's still wired up. That should fix any problems.

Last week I updated a mac mini and it downloaded a _firmware update for the aluminum keyboard_. That made me go WTF! I had no idea that keyboards these days shipped with user-updateable firmware, never mind the possibility of failing at keyboard design so badly that it requires a firmware update to begin with.
Actually the quickest way to flash the firmware is to ground the keyboard's metal casing to the active pin of your computer's power plug, then press any key for at least 5 seconds. -

Funny, usually measuring the momentum of a particle will alter it. But this thread has become dedicated to studying and observing the phenomenon of SpectateSwamp and it has not changed him at all. While we're occupied with finding and discussing SwampQuotes and such, he keeps chugging along obliviously as if we were just smiling and nodding. Perhaps the Heisenburg Uncertainty Principle doesn't apply to SpectateSwamp? I'm not sure whether that is due to the stones, the aliens, SSDS, or that he's simply incapable of changing to a different quantum state. Perhaps there will be custard pie available?

Great job on the code analysis (WWWWolf) and keeping up the general level of hilarity. I'm curious to know whether the .NET port (courtesy of bstorer) is keeping the original structure and naming as much as possible, or whether it's actually cleaning things up a little. (After all, we can only make it better.)

I couldn't remember whether the nuclear disaster his mushroom clouds were predicting was specifically tied to the open debate he'd parenthesised. Did he mention that detail specifically before? I certainly don't remember the nuclear plant being tied to the 2012 deal before. (I have read that quote about half a dozen times before now)
Of course, he's more likely to cause the disaster himself by dancing and jamming it.
@ZippoLag: I doubt he knows what a hadron is. Perhaps he'll seach it with SSDS?
I fund it funny that he has to specify '(Plural)' after 'Clouds' -

RE: The beauty of High School computer security...
I sent a few songs to a friend once and she ended up purchasing every album by that artist! So in that (rare) case it was advertising. But I certainly wouldn't regularly "share" music, and if I want to buy something it's because I've heard a song on the radio or am already familiar with the artist, so it's not like I need to "try before I buy". Plus music stores often let you preview things, and artists will often put up some partial tracks on their websites. So the try before you buy argument really doesn't fly.

RE: Bank WTF (another one)
I always find that whenever I get a statement I've made a large transaction a few days before which isn't on it (and I don't use my account a whole heap, mainly for buying petrol aka gasoline) so it never actually reflects the amount in my account when I receive it.

RE: Two windows active at once?
Ah. I was just saying why it was bad in my specific case. I agree there are legitimate times when it is better to flash than to put a focussed window in your way.
My XP computer has bigger problems and hasn't been used for months, so it's not really worth bothering about.

RE: Avatar WTF
Nothing happens until you click upload AND save. Which is kinda redundant since you can't see the uploaded image until after saving, so it's not like you can preview before saving.

I assume that's the point. Personally, it's much less irritating to have something flashing at me than to have something steal my focus. I actually wish more Linux programs would adopt this as a way to alert the user to important information without popping the damn window up in front of them (curse you Gmail!!!!)

Ouch. My local college has basically no restrictions except the wallpaper (not sure if they meant to do this or not, the option just isn't there, or I can't find it), and nobody gives a fuck that I got around it. The idea being when you're in college you should be smart enough not to look at porn (and those around you should be mature enough not to care if you accidentally find some) and the antivirus programs will make sure no naughty websites break anything. How well this policy actually works, I don't know. I was only there briefly and the machines were all brand new. But combine it with something like Deep Freeze (which I think they actually might have had) or a similar program and I imagine it'd work pretty well.
Fortunately they haven't downgraded to Vista yet... probably couldn't handle it. You need to go upstairs for computers with semi-decent graphics cards, and a few times all the upstairs computers decided not to handle USB flash drives (dunno why).
(Too bad they used Vista. :()Took them forever to upgrade from Visual Studio 03 to 05. Oh, and one computer on which we had to do some performance testing related to network transfer rates had an unupdated antivirus program with a daylight savings related bug that caused it to constantly check for updates and utilise 100% CPU until a few of us who knew what we were doing found it could be stopped with "net stop blah".
Oh, and some of the machines had Deep Freeze as well, though I never knew which. One of the fun things was that games were forbidden, and the first couple of lab sessions for Games Programming Techniques consisted of "play lots of different online flash games". And I spent a whole year working on an online gaming platform project... (actually, we had our own private computer lab to work in which was why we could play (our own) games without trouble... and play music. One night we stayed really late so we had it up fairly loud... so I guess it wasn't so bad after all :D )
Oh, I should point out that there was no way to change users without rebooting first. And there was the occasional computer which couldn't find the domain or had a whistling monitor so there was a bit of shuffling before everyone had a working computer...

I had a once screen shot when they were all flashing.
