To me, In A Strange Room was immediate love right from the first sentence, in that special "don't put the book down regardless of what you're doing" way.

RE: So long and thanks for all the bugs!
I hope @sam sticks around, even if just as one of us regular chuckleheads.
Do you believe he would want to belong to an organization that would have him as a member?

RE: Requesting good books for my summer vacation.
The series doesn't get really good until book 5,

RE: Google Now WTFs
Picard probably just reversed the polarity of his syntax to keep the computer from getting confused.
Let us first try to imagine what speech/syntax polarity means.

RE: Making a change in a SharePoint page
Should be BESTAND_NIET_GEVONDEN
Soms vermoed ik dat ik misschien een iets andere mening zou hebben, of me iets anders zou gedragen, als internet in het Nederlands was.Maar het is een hoop werk om dat te testen, want ik moet alles handmatig op natuurlijke wijze vertalen.

RE: A Unity of things...
Damn, that would be really confusing for me using Sublime Text all the time where CtrK is "delete line"
Wow, I've set Ctrl+K in VS to "comment line".
CONFUZZLEMENTS ABOUND!
-
RE: A Unity of things...
However, it forces Egyptian Brackets on you, and that's an endless source of irritation.
You misspelled "something that does not measurably influence anything about your code at all"

RE: Google Now WTFs
if Picard asks the computer for something and then talks to Riker about it, how does the computer know he's not talking to it?
Some evolved form of the Xbox motion-detection camera. How do we know? Usually because we're facing the other person. Even we can be confused of someone's facing us but talking to someone else, so it should not be expected that a computer can tell that apart.

RE: The Holy Grail of virtual reality
How about CRAMMING LESS SEATS into the fucking thing?
I herd that plane profit margins per passenger are terrible, so they have to cram people and still ask exorbitant prices.
We need some major improvement in flight technology, basically, and it's probably going to have to come from energy supply and engines.

RE: Requesting good books for my summer vacation.
So you want entertaining? In that case:
I tried but it's the dullest fantasy book I've ever read so I threw it across the room at the point they started mentioning whitebridge.Shit, The Sovereign Stone was more entertaining than The Eye Of The World.

RE: Hamburger Spacing Inconsistent
Personally, I'd just prefer to just find a CRT monitor and use that.
The last generation of CRTs are basically flat, so you're have to go find a really old one.
-
RE: Hamburger Spacing Inconsistent
I thought font rendering technologies were advanced enough
Cleartype on windows only has the tricky high-res AA in the horizontal axis, sadly.

RE: Anybody know where I can find a breakdown of computer statistics?
That wouldn't be a map, then. That'd be something like Half-Life where the world is split up into a bunch of tiny maps that just have very similar parts at the edges.
What's undesirable about this approach?

RE: Strange and things we don't understand!
No, it's a lightning bolt striking a building's lightning rod.

RE: The likes topic is a barrier to reading the badge page
Driving along the road, I passed a rather boggy meadow next to a small wood. I looked outside the window, saw that patch of land and my first thought was: "Now this would be a good place to build a castle".
I was on a road once on my bike, and I heard a heavy engine R-R-R-R-R sound behind me.
I thought it was one of these bastards: -
RE: Anybody know where I can find a breakdown of computer statistics?
32-bit only and that means I can't load maps the size of the galaxy
That just depends on how one of your pixels maps to reality.

RE: Game design.. with your favorite WTFs / anti-patterns?
parseInt("08")
ย
Oh I just tested that in the console, and it appears that prefix-0 no longer makes parseInt barf?
Or maybe I'm doing something else stupid.

RE: Counter trolling ideas
Replace it with the enormous lizard of the same name.
We've replaced John's monitor with a screaming mandril ape. Let's see if he notices.
-
RE: Counter trolling ideas
So I'm trying to think of creative ways to counter-troll him.
Get him reprimanded or fired. Or plain old physical violence, starting with a proper dopeslap.I have zero patience for "jokers" like that.

Firmly with a 'thank fuck they left already' party.
You need a history update, friend. -

RE: Badge suggestions - ones with added thought
We could go to a pub and studiously ignore each other except for glares over the top of pints of good beer.
I believe from the other thread it was clear that most of us are not shy. Introvert and calm, sure, but that's not shy.

RE: โญ๐ THE BAD IDEAS THREAD
I always gave USA'a ultrashitty internet a pass because of the landscape (the Dutch landscape and population distribution is damn near perfect for internet, which logically means other countries may not be so well-suited), but you're making me doubt that lenience.

RE: Badge suggestions - ones with added thought
It's not like it's a huge community. A few manually awarded badges won't prove too much, I think...
I am not a while(true) loop.

RE: ะLL F-!!1 TOPIC TITLE
In other news, due to the thread title shortening bug, this thread is now shortened to Misandry is...
and I imagine cutesy cartoons

RE: ะLL F-!!1 TOPIC TITLE
Let's read better articles! The Register gives me too many The Sun vibes.
First, there is the Finnish association, which had to follow the international federation:
Then people were rightfully angry, and the IeSF then fixed some of its ill-informed policies:
So while this idiotic women's-only division still exists, it's better than before, I suppose.
At the end of the day I just want more Scarlet vs Bomber.

Waarom geen Nederlands? Dat kent geen kat.
Er zijn hier meer Nederlanders dan men zou denken. -
RE: Poll: Should Sam create the suggested badges?
Sounds like too much work to me....
I voted Yes, but only the ones with the most Likes, and not so many that we can't manage it.
I just imagine that an automated system would be difficult to implement and eat up CPU resources, since it's essentially an event listener.
Funny badges are fun and all, but we don't want this turning into a fulltime job.
-
RE: Badge suggestions - ones with added thought
No. The form I have available to fill out is:
If that's all you got, how are these post-count badges currently implemented? Is there a rules file that lets you define requirements for a badge? The semantic badges obviously can't be automated, but what about the "simple" counter badges? These questions aren't necessarily aimed at you, PJH, but more rhetorical.

He, OTOH, seems to have a thing about breaking stuff.
Don't worry, it's a phase. I was playing with redstone when I discovered TNT. Much kablooey. Wow.
Then I got bored of flattening mountains, and now I'm constructing things in creative mode.

RE: Spoiler alert....
What if spoilers make the font size really big.
And the letter-spacing really small.
-
RE: I can create my topic. I can't close it.
300 lines of code and are like "my shit don't work, why?"
How come they don't get negative rep?
-
RE: I can create my topic. I can't close it.
We generally can't agree on anything as being correct.
I don't think that's right, though.

RE: So is the migration thing still happening?
The comments on the article don't lend it much credence.

RE: Why does your username disappear from the top as you scroll down?
Is there a reason the user name is dissapearing within a topic?
