My organisation deals with bad programmers by making them into managers.
Sadly, that's what our organization does with good programmers. :(
Many companies think making bad programmers into managers is a way of getting them out of where they can do damage. Unfortunately, it ends up making them the ones who tell the good programmers what to work on (and often how to work on it), which means you get crap results because people are working on things that aren't what needs doing.

That's why when you find good candidate, you make sure the offer confirmation process can be completed within half day. :P
I've never managed to be hired that fast after a good interview. Either I'm not that good, or I'm not working for nimble enough companies. (Why not both?)
I only have once but it was because I was reapplying to a company for the same position I left a year prior. The interviews were mostly a formality.
I got the email with the offer ~2 hours after I left the interview.
