Nobody wants to challenge the Swampies. Making any allowances for TV when you are doing video is STUPID. Like dumb terminals in the old days. You don't have control over videos like you have when displaying them on a computer. Soon all TVs will be computer controlled.

    The latter. If you had a girlfriend (I think the last Swampie to do so had to rescue her out of a castle guarded by a fire-breathing dragon and then woo her away from a lord of a short stature with the help of a talking donkey) you would likely be too tied up. Of course, I don't agree with this 100%. I'd just wish you didn't have a computer.

    2 jobs in San Francisco in 1979 got me 2 glowing letters of thanks from "Pacific Telephone & Telegraph" (2 weeks) and the other job at Balfour Dalgetti Marine / Hapag-Lloyd shipping of about 4 months earned me another. Enough about me. I want to talk about why nobody has put forward code from any program that could in any way be seen as useful. I have shown a 10,000 line program that is tops. The 2nd program is one that any programmer that does ETL's would love. I've written over 500 of them in 40+ years. Nope nothing yet from you guys that would hold a candle to either of these programs. So there.

    Let me ask you, were you an independent contractor? If you were a full-time employee and are gloating about a job you held on to for 2 weeks and another for 4 months, then you have nothing to gloat about. Chances are the letters were sarcastic; something you have a thin grasp on.

    You want code from a just-as-useful program? Fine. Here's a prime example of an app that's JUST as useful as SSDS, and here's the codez. You'll see this code was a finalist in a contest! Yours was not.

    Don't give us any of the follow this link BS. How about an explanation as simple as how important an ETL Extract Translate Load / Conversion (dump Program) is to every programmer not just me. A simple change and one new record can be output to a new file with file renaming on completion. A very primitive accounting system. All in minutes and with goto's and line numbers if you like. Now tell us what your program does. I have 2 or 3 other brilliant solutions that would make it in the top 10. But you won't see them - when you are not sharing any worthwhile source code why should I

    When did you? So far you have shown a fairly limited and inflexible tool for apparently doing something with text and screen captures and the horror that is SSDS - where is the worthwhile code?

    Here's a more entertaining idea: let's talk about why you haven't put forward code from any program that could in anyway be seen as useful. (See the previous 40 pages and your other couple threads for reasons why it's useless to everyone else except you. And even you could do better.)

    Oh, speaking of your awful ETL, I believe that in fact I did share teh codez with you for a better, more flexible, and far more portable alternative. Here's another free tip: you wouldn't have to write 500 separate programs that do the exact same functionality if you wrote it correctly in the first place.

    I'm looking through my common codebase to see if there's anything in here you might like, just to throw you a bone. Most of the stuff I write is pretty niche, so I'm not finding anything offhand. Of course, if it wasn't niche, it would have already been written, long long ago. Kind of like grep. Do you want some Java code that listens to a socket for a specially formatted message and then sends it up to SAP via BAPI and replies to the socket? That one was pretty elegant. I have an extension to Apache Commons Configuration that makes it environment-sensitive, that way you can deploy one configuration file for all your various environments. I'm mostly happy with that one, too, but I doubt it would be much use to you.

    As far as your needs go, I think this program I wrote would serve you best: @ssds-help.sh said:

    #!/usr/bin/bash

    man grep

    The lower the boom app. Not one of the top 10 of all time. I just like the name. While working at Prince Albert Pulp and Paper. The computer was extremely overloaded and was due for replacement in a short time. Being a contractor I had fewer OS privileges than I needed. The problem was that the data-entry-type users were frustrated with the poor response time. My privileges didn't allow me to raise the priority for these user-id's on the system. But I could set everybody elses priority down down. I'd just run the "Lower the Boom" command file once or twice a day. The users noticed the change.

    Years back I was doing security work at the Lonsdale key in North Vancouver Canada. The management wanted to get rid of the security co I was working at; some kind of a kick-back I assume. Anyway as we walked past a garbage bin, He came across a watch in the bin. I said someone must have thrown it away and I don't want it. Not having worn a watch in 20 years (they give me a rash). The watch was a Rolex watch and worth 1000's of $$$. I knew nothing about Rolexes at the time. I thought it was just another garbaged watch. There must be laws against people trying to set me up like that.

    I may be questioned about a local govt official threatening a citizen outside of the council meetings. A reporter for the nearby city was right there too. I think a reconstruction of that event; with a stand in for the perp would work best don't you? Anybody not for that could be charged with obstructing JUSTICE you'd think!

    Of course you had fewer privileges. The sysadmins do this just to keep dickhead programmers away from changing the system configuration on user demand. But somehow they left a hole and you found it. Must have been some decades ago.

    Yes, why would one not want to keep 1680 x 1050 x 4 bytes (~6.8 MB) instead of 4 to 5 kB if it where text. Take this times 500 (or 50.000 for 100 users only) and handle it, backup it, pass it over a network, etc. So much for your ETL solution. Even XML would be much less bytes than what you propose. And instead of watching a boring video of 10 times the same page (given that you post 10 times on a page) we would be able to simply read your mental ejaculations.

     Funny, indeed.

    On the Uni machines, they have Kapersky and because they're reformatted weekly the full scan never completes. Thus, I have an AV scan I can't stop hogging both cores at 100%. I can't drop its priority. The solution? Raise the priority of everything else!
