I think I'm creating an WTF of my own

Infra people refused to install a server for us to manage our C++ project's internal dependencies with something sane like conan, and we have azure artifacts. So I'm packaging our C++ stuff into npm packages and using a powershell script to check for version conflicts, it seems to be working well enough for our own things, but it feels a bit dirty
-
@sockpuppet7 if it’s all you can have, it’s all you can have and you are on,y producing a WTF because manglement is
-
@sockpuppet7 have you considered universal packages? https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/devops/artifacts/quickstarts/universal-packages?view=azure-devops
After all, why bother with the well known wtf-ery of npm, when you can use the universally unknown wtf-ery of universal packages.

Enjoy!

@robo2 I did look into that, but I wanted it to automatically download dependencies of dependencies
the less wtf thing for C++ there is probably gradle, but then I would need to make it work with borland C++ 6 (that is another wtf, but this one isn't on me)

Wow. That's still out there in the wild? I feel so sorry for you.
Anyway, if you can drive the compiler from the command line then you can make it work. Don't know if that applies nicely to Windows, but it probably does.

I am suddenly struck bluntly in the back of the head with several decades. Threads are free.

Doesn't that limit to whatever your dependencies support?
-
@PleegWat yes, but it's a handful of libs, I'm not doing anything fancier than downloading and unzipping them

I might spend a little too much time in . I initially interpreted this in an entirely different context.

@HardwareGeek I initially interpreted the other half in an entirely different context too; I might be reading too many of 's posts.

Hey if we can get libs to hold hands instead of us hand-holding them, to good benefit, what's not to love?

Aside from the good benefit remaining arguable, it's been done.

Not to me. Spelt is a type of wheat and contains gluten.
-
@HardwareGeek They'll happily sell it to you, but you probably aren't going to buy it for yourself

Even something objectively inferior can make its way onto grocery store shelves if there's a market for it which will pay the premium.

Originally this said "historic" instead of contemporary, and I wondered wtf you meant. Anyway, modern grocery stores do sell spelt flour. I don't know whether it's good or whack, but one article that seems suspiciously like pro-spelt propaganda says that it "performs the closest to all-purpose white flour while bringing a lot more flavor."

Go to pretty much any store that sells beer and you'll see this in action by how much of the shelf space is taken up by IPAs. And yes, for some reason lots of people pay a premium for it all.

Or heineken. Round here they even started selling budweiser, which by all accounts is worse.

Now that's some nice and clever republican propaganda.
PS: Assuming that the "budweiser" is Anheuser-Busch

May I assume that you think of some crappy American (? / Dutch?) beer which goes by that name, instead of high quality beer from the town of Ceske Budejovice which is called Budweis in German?
