Wow, this is one well executed scam
Delicious mixing of currency separators
Not just John McAffee and Norton, but also DMCA PROTECTED!!!!!1111one

@dangeRuss all it needs now is Advanced Technology of Laser.
-
@dangeRuss there was some research out a year, two back that did show improved charge performance with varying voltage vs steady charging. The odds of this being that, however, remain poor.
-
I want to know what fakery they did in the photo immediately below the blue words "Your Battery Will Thank You", so that it shows the phone being charged while the Multivoltz is not plugged in.
(There's any number of ways of faking this, but I want to know which one they used...)
-
@Steve_The_Cynic well, hopefully anything that cost more than making a working product is out of that set. hopefully.
-

I assume they faked the battery image on the phone screen, since it doesn't look like any real one
-
It turns out the $17,99 price only applies when you buy five of them
-
Am I understanding correctly in that these essentially are USB chargers that don't conform to the USB standards, in the sense that they don't provide the voltage that the USB standard dictates?
Also, how does that even work for something like USB3 / USB PD where the device can try to negotiate higher voltages, up to 20V?
Finally, don't most devices have some sort internal voltage regulators, since the battery voltage isn't actually 5V or whatever?
-
@cvi yes. no. yes.

No. These
essentiallyliterally are USB chargers thatdon'tfully conform to the USB standards and its widely adopted extensions developed by other companies.Also, how does that even work for something like USB3 / USB PD where the device can try to negotiate higher voltages, up to 20V?
Same as every other Quickcharge and similar. There's a handshake procedure between the charger, the device and the cable (yes, there are chips in the cables), and when it fails, it falls back to regular 5V charging.
-
@Gąska so, summary, would work even better if the cables were gold? gold-shielded maybe?

Well, that, and you need to overclock the cable.

On the other hand if you buy 3, your total is $69.00

@Tsaukpaetra please evaluate 3 waifu.

Flash is EOL anyway
So you have to choose between Lightning and Thunderbolt pack.
But what I wanted was a USB charger
-
@TimeBandit Thunderbolt is gone too, I think. That was like 10 years ago.

No, that's what the new usb c is
-
@cvi said in Multivoltz:

It doesn't.
Or more specifically, this isn't a USB PD compatible charger, because you need C-C to do that.
-
@Gribnit You need the PolyAmoration plugin to unlock this result.

So good to have a unified standard.

Gold plated RBG USB C cables for USD500 would probably sell pretty well, until the started selling cheap copies.

Pfft yeah right where will they buy a fake battery image? Some kind of "photo shop". You're funny.
No, clearly they have two identical cables, and below the image where you can't see it is a portable battery connected to both ends. If you look at the reflection in her necklace you can clearly see a black spot between two white lines. I'm betting that's the portable charger.
Quite the scam indeed.

Actually, USB security is an important thing. You don't want hackers to download your files over power network, or upload viruses. Worst thing is that in the era of IOT chargers, remove hacking over power grid is actually theoretically possible.
Hmm, now I were an enterprising type, I would start a company making USB data firewall. For only $20, our device allows charging but protects your data!

Data-only cables exist, but are slightly cheaper.

Perfect, you just start reselling the Chinese copies under the original brand too at that point.

You're too late. And too expensive. Here's 2 for about $10. (Yes, I bought them - I need it in the car because the phone thinks it can talk to the car but the car can't. Stupid incompatible drivers. I also use it when traveling and there's only USB power slots - because who knows what's really behind those.)

I don't mean via the electical system, but a tiny device embedded in the charger, or placed between the charger and the cable.

-
@dangeRuss Safe high-voltage charging?

@dangeRuss said in Multivoltz:

If you want to charge at a higher rate than is possible with the current delivered by the base USB spec, you need to negotiate for it. Which requires a data connection…
