Scottish Wikipedia articles written in fake Scottish
-
Wiki user AmaryllisGardener has made a significant amount of contributions on Wikipedia overall, of which the vast majority were done on the Scots Wikipedia. There he contributed over 27.000 articles, making up close to half of the total amount of articles on that Wiki altogether.
The problem is that none of these articles were written in Scots. AmaryllisGardener does not know the language. Tens of thousands of articles and edits were done in a non-existent language, using US-en grammar instead of Scots grammar, and English words replaced with a Scottish translation (some of which were not correct, either). For words where the author couldn't find a Scottish equivalent, either English was used instead, or a new word was made up altogether
Huge parts of the Scots Wikipedia can not function as a resource because of this, and do active harm to the language it pretends to be written in.

@El_Heffe Yeah, I read about this. Apparently, someone in academia is looking for volunteers to fix it over the next few years. Maybe extra-credit student labor type stuff.

The most amazing thing is, this didn't just happen overnight. It's been going on for something like 9 years.
And they just discovered it now???

That suggests ... something ... about the readership of the Wikipedia versions other than English and a few other major languages, and I don't mean that it's something good.
