How hard would it be to exclude a topic from search?

I'm talking, of course, about https://what.thedailywtf.com/topic/10110/hey-guys-remember-how-all-the-tags-on-the-forum-are-encoded-into-every-post-form

No matter what you search, half the results are posts from that topic and it's a pain in the ass. So would it be possible to hide from the search? I have two ideas:

1. Move it into a non-indexed category (but without breaking any links or hiding it from guests? Probably impossible)
2. Crudely add a hard-coded condition like AND topic_id!=10110 to whatever code indexes the posts or searches them

Edit: or make the search default to "posts from last year only". That would probably help most searches.

As marking one's territory goes, I can think of worse ways of doing it.
