Mention notifications dismissed too soon
-
If I have a bunch of @mention notifications and go to one thread where I was mentioned, all notifications from other threads are cleared, too, so I end up missing a bunch of them and discovering them potentially much later.
-
@boomzilla That's because all your alts are also looking at their notifications and clearing them.
-
-
Glad you noticed this bug from a year ago!

False. This just started happening. Also:
-
@boomzilla Repro, many times. Except, surprise different behavior today.
I got two notifications for the same post. One was a "@whoever posted a reply to the ... thread" notification, because it was a thread I started. The other was a normal "@whoever mentioned you", because he/she/it mentioned me.
When I went to another thread where I had also been mentioned, the "posted a reply" notification was dismissed; the "mentioned" notification, which I would have expected to be (improperly) dismissed, was not.

This version of the bug is from after the two week wipe (do we have an official name for that?). Instead of just clearing all @mention notifications from the topic that you clicked into, it clears all @mentions from all topics.

Ah. I seemed to have skipped that part.
It's merely an exacerbation of an existing bug, I maintain.

The Lubar-ening.

I propose The Great Benning.

Yeah, that was 1.12.2 (?). Now we're on 1.13.0, so I guess the bug has mutated a bit or something, but both of those are what I'd call new.
-
And just by coincidence, a perfect example:
I haven't visited the Diseducation or Driving threads yet this morning, but the mention notifications were dismissed anyway.
-
@HardwareGeek how did you get that dropdown menu to be so large?
I just dragged my browser window3x pixels wideracross 2 monitors and the dropdown is still only half that width.
-
@topspin I have this in my Custom CSS settings to have a similar effect:
.notification-list li, .header .notification-list li {width: 80ex;}
-
@topspin That looks like the notifications page.
However...
.notification-list li, .header .notification-list li { width: 800px !important; }

This. Too many notifications this morning to see all of them in the drop-down. 2 1/2 pages in the full-page, um, page.
-
making the notification dropdown wider
:drake_looking_away:
making the notification dropdown taller
:drake_approves:
-
@hungrier oh, yeah, I also have this:
#logged-in-menu #menu .notification-list, .header .notification-list{max-height:50em;}
-
Since people are showing off their CSS peens, here's mine!
#logged-in-menu > li.notifications.dropdown.text-center.hidden-xs.open > ul > li:nth-child(1) > ul > li { width: 700px; } #logged-in-menu > li.notifications.dropdown.text-center.hidden-xs.open > ul > li:nth-child(1) > ul { max-height: none; }

oooooh! i've got one of those!
-
@Vixen looks more like a cluebat to me.
-
@topspin Nah, not enough rusty nails stuck through it.
-
@Mason_Wheeler I'm sure it will work just fine without.

Amateurs. I have a full-on Chrome extension.
I'd open source it but I'm too
to scrub all my PII from it.

:but-why.png:
It's mostly for Not This Site.
It adds extra popup/popunder/hijacking/ad prevention, keyboard navigation, AJAX loading, bulk download capability, DRM circumvention, automated form-filling (with real and/or fake data), session timeout prevention/auto renewal, it reveals comic hidden messages/bonus comics...
I'd say the craziest thing it does is some dynamic JS de-obfuscation and rewriting.
-
@error Is the extension called Tampermonkey?
-
Anyway speaking of @mentions, I've confirmed the following: an edited post with an @message will bump the previously read @mention to the top of your notifications list
-
@hungrier said in Mention notifications dismissed too soon:

No. AFAIK tampermonkey doesn't actually let you modify HTTP requests and responses in-flight.
-
@error I haven't looked too deeply into it but that seems like it would be out of scope for user js

Yeah. Cross tab/cross site communication/download management is also easier with an extension.

If you guys haven't noticed from the bot, this is my inspiration
for side-project development:write a module for it that writes random modules for it, then have it assess the modules according to some sort of fitness criteria, and then use forced evolution to take the successful results and breed them to get more successfull, etcetera. then when you have a round where the modules surpoass some minimum usefulness measurement you incorporate the winner from that generation into the main program and reset the module generation back to random and go again.
and again.
and again.
and again.
Until eventually it writes a module that runs this module writing AI autonomously. and then...... oh yes....
I for one welcome our new glitchy technological overlords

The future has not been written. There is no fate but what we make for ourselves. I wish I could believe that. My name is John Connor. They tried to murder me before I was born. When I was 13, they tried again. Machines from the future. Terminators. All my life my mother told me the storm was coming - Judgment Day, the beginning of a war between man and machines. Three billion lives were vanished in an instant. And I would lead what was left of the human race to ultimate victory. It hasn’t happened, no bombs fell, computers didn’t take control. Skynet ran out of memory trying to solve a Minesweeper board.
