Status: Piecing out a build to replace an HP Z400 workstation (with an added GTX 970) computer.

This machine runs a proprietary imaging software that does mostly not a lot except when capturing, and that's mostly just writing the slices to disk to be processed by the GPU. Other than that, it sits idle.
Things marked (Purchased) are stuff that I'm salvaging from the existing tower. I'm going to see if I can reuse the case and power supply (very good chance that's a yes).

@Tsaukpaetra the link doesn't work

Oh my derp, I thought I was still on the link page. Fixed.
-
@Tsaukpaetra does it need all that hard drive storage?

Looks good, bit light on memory though. If you can spring for another 8GB then I would.
-
@Tsaukpaetra also i'd recommend more RAM, like 8 GB at least, windows likes to hog RAM
-
@Tsaukpaetra guessing the imaging software won't do linux?

It's storing patient data in raid 1.

Yeah it's not even going to be running Chrome. Currently the system being used has 4 (of which 3.7Gb are actually usable because 32 bit).

Depends on what programs you're running.

Definitely not. And I'm not going to be able to convince a doctor's office full of non-technical people to try Linux. This is software that's been slowly mutated since Windows 95 was the hot thing. Linux would probably segfault on the installer when it tries to detect if you're running as a Console-connected user.

Looks good for the power supply, it's actually 400W rated but that's plenty. Got the right connectors (ATX 24pin and EPS12V) for that motherboard.
-
This isn't even interesting! I get it, it's for professional imaging software in a doc's office, but that doesn't excuse not having any RGB lights, now does it?

It going under a table in an alcove. More lights might improve the darkness, actually...

Not linux hardware. CLOSED_WONT_FIX

Do you have a backup solution already? A built-in RAID is not a backup solution; too easy to delete stuff from it in a fit of not-thinking-hard. OTOH, the backup doesn't really need to be very fancy since it can be external.
In general, as long as the parts work together (i.e., the CPU and memory are both compatible with the motherboard) it'll probably be fine. The main worry is whether all the bits will physically fit in the case and actually be connected correctly; I've run into problems with that in the past where the pipes on the water cooler for the GPU insisted on going through some motherboard switch mounts that I couldn't get rid of.
Also, don't forget a cooler for CPU or you won't get through installing the OS. Don't ask me how I know this.

It's not better than this guy's build:
But it sure looks better.

@boomzilla Nope thread is

I didn't know patient data was being stored on it until I was told it was having troubles. Hence why I was copying a terabyte of data over the weekend and will be making a move permanent solution once this build is installed.

@Tsaukpaetra Slightly off-topic, but are there any similar sites that are Linux-friendly? On that page, on the OS page, it's all Windows. I guess I could order a build without an OS, and just install Linux when I got it, but I'd rather not take the chance that there's some sort of hidden incompatibility with something I added.

The site is an aggregator of retailers, meant for you to organize a shopping list of parts and (attempt to) ensure compatibility with everything before you buy.
You don't "order a build" as such, you go out and buy the things on your list and build it. This includes installing the operating system of choice.
I suppose that's why Linux isn't on the list. You usually don't want to actually buy it from someone...
