Quoting seems to be broken?

I swear this used to work, unless I'm hallucinating.
In this post the second level of nesting in a quote isn't being rendered, looks fine in the raw though:

@Cursorkeys WOMM.

Hmmm, I don't have anything that should be affecting it. Odd.

There's supposed to be an arrow, but it only shows after refresh. Been like that for months. Maybe years.

Yep, that's it. Sometimes it doesn't need the refresh though, one of my test posts just worked first time.

Which browser? I don't recall noticing that I needed a refresh (linux chrome 71).

@boomzilla Definitely Chrome mobile and Firefox mobile, I think the desktop versions too, but I don't trust my memory enough to claim that. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

@boomzilla oh, now I remember. When you edit a post containing nested quotes, it does that.
The above is Firefox 64.0 (64-bit) from Ubuntu 14.04 repo - but I'm pretty sure I saw it in Chrome for Windows too.

I'm using Vivaldi on Windows 10, which is Chromium.

@Gąska I had this topic open when you edited that post and can confirm. macOS, Chrome.

Ah, yes. I see that.

Posts that stream in while you're viewing a topic, or posts with an edit that streams in while you're viewing the topic, are rendered "wrong". Part of the code pipeline that's supposed to render the posts doesn't execute.
I think I've also seen this happen with code blocks not getting syntax highlighted properly, but I'm not able to reproduce that now.
The easiest way to reproduce it is to post something, then edit your own post.
edit: example:

Welcome to WTDWTF where we find the same problem every couple of months and then forget it six days later.
When you see a post edited in real-time, nested quotes fuck up. Reloading the page may or may not fix it, but a cache-clearing reload will.

How else are WTDWTF members going to rant daily about the forum software? It's practically tradition!

Everything old is new again, after all.
