Reading outlook emails in thunderbird
-
Does anyone know a good plugin? I used to use Lookout, but looks like that no longer works on the latest version of Thunderbird. Don't tell me I have to stoop to using Outlook.

Are you wanting to open a PST in Thunderbird, or to connect Thunderbird to Exchange?

No, I have my emails working fine using POP3, but when other outlook clients send me emails they have the dreaded winmail.dat that Thunderbird doesn't support natively.
I used to use the Lookout plugin which worked OK most of the time, but it hasn't been updated since 2011 and Thunderbird says it's not compatible.
Wondering if there's another plugin or something that would make Thunderbird process winmail.dat properly.
Edit: Nevermind, looks like someone picked up the development.

What does this mean? Other people using Outlook?

Yes. Most people in the office use Outlook.

@dangeRuss I thought Thunderbird had support for MAPI, does it not? (I'm not sure how good the support is.)

winmail.dat
happens when outlook sends emails and wants to include certain items which are not natively part of email. Text still gets through, and if the email only has attachments they usually get attached normally and can be opened. However if any of the other features get used that trigger winmail.dat attachments get packaged into winmail.dat as well and non-outlook users just get the message body. I'm not sure what the other features are since I don't use outlook, but I believe polls are a thing, and on exchange it might be using them for calendar invites as well?

That sucks.
