@doctorjones whenever appalling politicians hold positions of power, the cause usually lies in the opposition being much worse. (Although frankly I don't get why, of all people, it had to be Theresa May. Better for Labour, I guess). Anyway, in this case, Corbyn's fine really, much better than any of the Labour leaders of the last at least ten years, but the problem here lies in the laughable handling of his party of his rise. They'd cut off their nose to spite their face, as long as somebody embodying the values that Labour should represent (starting from its name) eventually fails because God forbid, somebody who is actually on the left of the political spectrum (and he's no Trostkyite either, really) taking the reins of a supposedly left-of-centre party.

Guessing he's talking about smart cards. A number of countries do already use those to prove online identity to government Web sites (though they get end-to-end encryption as a byproduct, o noooes-- I guess it'd be possible to use a TLS null cipher if browsers are fucked up enough to support that with default configuration, not even sure if they are).

I see no problem there. I mean, almost all cryptography is based on prime numbers, they just need to pick a random one and encrypt everything using that and never tell anyone what they picked!
Of course, it will turn out to be 7, because it was easy to remember.

In this case it rather was a case of a destructive votum (as in: Tear something down without a concrete plan on how to proceed afterwards).
This created essentially a void of power because of the: "I can't believe we won. Anyone have an idea on how to proceed?"-effect which left it more or less to random chance who got to fill the void.
Such a result is usually the case with destructive schemes - they don't have a plan for what comes afterwards and thus you get "Fuck if I know."
