Did Thanos Kill You? (probably spoilers)

Good news for all my alts!

It's a big fucking universe out there, and Thanos had the ability to multiply it, add resources and everything else.
Thanos is an idiot.
-
@xaade In the original he was in love with a hallucination personification of death itself. I could see how that wouldn't translate well to the screen.

I could see how they wouldn't really be able to introduce death personified.
However, they introduced his character way in Avengers 1 as being fancy to the idea of courting death. I think it went that the baddies in Avengers 1 said "to attack Earth would be to court death" and in popped Thanos.
Maybe conjuring up a little more background that explains why Thanos has a death hammer and everything is a nail?
Kinda silly to basically put forth the idea that overpopulation leads to hurt people and death is the solution...
-
@xaade Well I haven't seen any other Avengers movie, so whatever. They might have originally been intending a more faithful-to-the-comics version and changed their mind.
And showing a new, hallucinated, character can work well obviously in a film. But not when there's already 47 other characters the audience is expected to just know. The last thing this movie needed was a brand new character. (I think that's why they recycled Red Skull, also.)

Or Thanatos?
Thanatos was also the name of the bad guy in Double Double 07, a.k.a. Operation Kid Brother. Surely the best spy movie of all time.
-
Thanatos = Thanos flavored Mentos?

I thought this thread would be about that biomedical scam company with the hot CEO. I have no idea what's going on in here (I don't watch TV or movies).

This shit is comic books, buddy.

That's Theranos. They didn't kill anyone to my knowledge unless someone relied on their blood tests for something important.
-
-
@boomzilla My understanding is that they did do proper testing more or less but they just lied about owning equipment to do the testing better/faster.
Basically, they told a bunch of people they had super-advanced tech, then collected the blood samples and took them to Rite-Aid.
Not sure if they killed anybody or not. AFAIK the test results were still good.
-
@blakeyrat Ah, well, there you go. Obviously I only followed that story a little bit more closely than @mott555 does Avenger movies.

YMMV
Maybe yes
Maybe not so much

@boomzilla This is like 3 weeks old. You're slow, old man. :P
@xaade said in Did Thanos Kill You? (probably spoilers):

Yeah, that didn't quite add up, IMO, but I actually still liked it better than wanting to kill half of the universe just cause.
What I had a gripe about: After our favorite super-heroes the Avengers/Guardians fought all these baddies (cough Dormammu cough), not only is Thanos vastly overpowered in comparison, but so are his minions. The Black Order totally overpower Wanda and Vision, who has the mind gem after all. Then Cap et al show up to save the day, when Wanda/Vision shouldn't really need their help.
Still entertaining for what it's worth.

Welcome to comics.... in general.

Dormammu was "beaten" by a clever trick.

Yes, it's been sitting in a post on my RSS feeder. Also, better not to post these sorts of things right away so people get a chance to see the movie. Also, still faster than you.

Time traveling is always a "clever trick" that gives rise to paradoxes and/or plot holes. Why did you use it to
beat Dormammu but not Thanos go to arithmancy classsave Buckbeak but not Sirius?Except Back to the Future.

Eh, there's precedent for that modest proposal though.

My first thought after I learned about Thanos's plan was...
-
@blakeyrat didn't it? Is that not the same person as in Thor: Ragnarok?
-
@xaade said in Did Thanos Kill You? (probably spoilers):
Dormammu was "beaten" by a clever trick.
Dormammu was hilarious. That's the shit I want out of Marvel movies. Ingenuity. But almost nobody displayed any semblance of intelligence in Infinity War.
-
@pie_flavor Is what who?
I've never seen Thor: Ragnarok, so I can't answer your question.
When I said I've never seen any other Avengers movies, I should say I've basically never seen any other Marvel movies, except the Spider-Man movies from Sony, Iron Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy. And like maybe 10 minutes of Iron Man 2. Oh and both of those Hulk movies that came out, the shitty one directed by Ang Lee and the slightly-less shitty one that came out like 2 years later.

Like many murderous psychopaths, he might have needed an excuse better than "I love death" to justify it even to himself. Remember, in the movie anyways, he needed some minions to help him. He needed a reason to give them to embrace his need for death and become his followers.
Convincing them the universe needs cleaning and balance sounds like something a crazy cult leader would do even in real life.
-
@blakeyrat Hela.
Goddess of Death.
-
@pie_flavor Except Thanos isn't talking to a real person; he's talking to his HALLUCINATION of Death, who he's in love with. So I'm guessing it's not her? But: again, I haven't seen the damned movie, not sure why you keep asking me. Ask someone who's seen the movie.
-
@blakeyrat you should see the movie.
-
@pie_flavor Yeah I'll get right on that.
-
So why would thantos kill or not kill me? What's the punchline?
And don't say this is a comic thing when it's clearly a movie thing.
-
No matter how scary they make him, Thanos will forever be defined by that one panel

-
Spoiler
Thanos's goal is to literally kill half of all life in the universe using the infinity stones. Who dies and who lives is solely based on chance, and has nothing to do with one's health, social status, or power. This site probably uses some kind of hash of one's IP or something to provide a consistent, yet seemingly random answer.
-
@The_Quiet_One
It's okay, I'm sure it has plenty to do with narrative convenience.
-
Squirrel Girl beat Thanos too, but she's beat everybody so.

That's in the video game. I remember watching Super Best Friends play it and their complaint was that Death was an attractive white woman with large breasts instead of her previous skeleton-face lady appearance.
-
@blakeyrat said in Did Thanos Kill You? (probably spoilers):

It's not just an hallucination. I think it's more of an incarnation.
Deadpool sees the same lady death after Thanos curses him to never die, and Deadpool actually starts a kinda relationship that makes Thanos jealous.
Then again, it's deadpool, so YMMV.

It's absolutely in the comics as well. And yes, Mistress Death is a character and not just a hallucination.

She still has large breasts
I think it's more that everything but her skeleton is invisible.

Maybe it was cleavage they were complaining about. It's been a while since I watched that LP.

Well yeah.
Not just from a marketing standpoint, but being a hobby artist myself, it's much more interesting to draw cloth draped over boobs than cloth draped over ribcage.
-
@xaade I bet this phrase was heard at least once in the Marvel offices:
But without the gigantic knockers, how will people know it's a WOMAN skeleton and not a man skeleton?
