News flash, Stack Exchange sites are run by jackasses

So, I had an interesting notification in my email today from Stack Exchange...
Hmmmm, so the message is "see here for why your comment was removed". I guess I'll click through and see what the fuss is about.
Oh, there's no discernible context in there for me to figure out what's going on. My comment is gone. I can't even remember typing a comment, never mind what it said, so the mod may as well have said nothing. My comment has been memory holed, and a message of "see this post to see what you did wrong" plus a nice bit of public shaming has been left in its place. Bad DoctorJones, bad, bad DoctorJones.
This is the new and improved, welcoming stack exchange, we are now in the future.
Here's my comment thread with the mod, who knows how long it'll be there, so here's a nice little screenshot for your enjoyment.

@DoctorJones Good use of moderator resources: deleting answers from 2015 on a Q&A site in 2018.
-
@ben_lubar Gotta delete something! Delete delete delete!

They must've hired mods from German Wikipedia.

The sweet sweet promise of Internetpointz draws out the non- mods.

Did you follow the link to see which FAQ was supposed to explain why your comment was removed?

Can we please get SevenSidedDie an account over here so he can "defend"* his actions?
*By "defend" I of course mean that he tries to defend while we rip him a new one.

Yes, it was about not writing answers in comments. It would have been a minor correction in my comment. I've no idea how the fuck you're supposed to help the author improve their answer any more if you're not allowed to comment on the veracity of the information they're presenting.
Jackasses.

Who gives a shit? Why would someone edit this question that still hasn't been answered? Do they think it will magically get an answer because the code formatting is slightly different?

Sometimes? Yes. Things like making visible the screenshot of the error that the questioner took can make a big difference. (I don't get why so many people take photos instead of doing cut-n-paste… but I've seen it in many places so it is definitely a thing… and I don't like it! )

But in this case?
In that case, no. That's just fiddling for fiddling's sake.

StackExchange is like one of those machine learning mishaps where you try to make it figure out how to walk but what it actually does is find a bug in your physics engine and exploit that because that gives more points.
