Not bound to a key by default, but basically it turns the game from point-and-click into a third person shooter.
-
@ben_lubar It turns the lame controls of GW2 into the awesome controls of Elder Scrolls Online. More or less.
-
@ben_lubar isn't that like the default mode?
-
So yesterday a parcel arrived. Turns out @royal_poet is awesome and picked up a GW2 Necromancer t-shirt from We Love Fine.
I'd do a photo but I'm shy and don't like being in photos much. But I can go to work today and feel all necromancery because <3

You don't have to wear the shirt to take a picture of it!
Also, if you push F1 while wearing the shirt, do you enter death shroud?

I AM DEATH INCARNATE!
Which raises the question of where you got enough life force to activate it...

@ben_lubar some questions are better left not answered.

Ok, the new WvW skirmish reward system is required if you want to get the new legendary backpack, as well as some nice new armor appearances.
Here's how it works: You earn points every five minutes as long as your "participation" level is above a certain threshold. It's trivial to keep it above that threshold if you kill one enemy guard every five minutes or so.
As you earn more points, the number of points required for the next reward increases, as does the reward. At some point on Friday, your progress on the track resets.
Okay, so here's how you earn points:
- If your world is in first, second, or third place, you get three, two, or one point every five minutes.
- You get one point every five minutes for having a WvW level greater than or equal to the following thresholds: 150, 620, 1395, 2545, 4095, 6445, 10000. For a point of reference, I have 2700+ hours logged in the game and I'm WvW level 394. The maximum level is 10000.
- You get one point every five minutes if you are the leader of a squad with at least five members.
- You get one point every five minutes if you have earned at least 100 points during each of the previous 3 weeks. Nobody can get this one yet.
- You earn five points every five minutes if your world is outnumbered by the other two worlds on the map you are currently on.
Which means that right now, in order to gain an additional point every five minutes, I can either:
- Level up 226 times.
- Find four other people that are willing to follow me around, and actually lead them around so they don't just leave.
- Single-handedly make my world earn more points than another world that is currently outplaying us.
- Play for another two weeks, earning 100 points or more each week.
Or, I can wait until everyone on my team goes to sleep and somehow that's worth five times as much as any of those other four things.
-
Status: I now have these five items: Wings of Ascension, Gift of Skirmishing, Gift of the Competitor, Gift of Conquering, and Gift of Warfare
The remaining items I need to finish these backpacks are: Gift of Fortune ×2 (currently about 1,000 gold each) (currently about $70 each) and Warcry (14 weeks of up to 120 hours of farming, depending on the player. For me, it's 12-24 hours per week.)
-
Status: World completion for a second time, and now starting on Nevermore I.
-
Specifically, starting on Nevermore I, Twilight I and Sunrise I... plus a complete set of ascended armour because I still don't have a complete set (I have ascended weapons and ascended trinkets but not armour)

Go for the ascended armor first. It'll help you a lot more a lot sooner than legendary collections will, and it'll probably be cheaper.
-
@ben_lubar the first tier of collections are all treasure hunts. Just need to go places and do stuff.
My main bottlenecks on the crafting front are the leather for Elonian Leather Squares and the components of Damask.

Don't worry about the ingredients other than the time-gated one for now. Real world days are more expensive than any other ingredient in those.
Also, have you considered making ascended armor the new way?
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Grandmaster_Leatherworker's_Mark
-
@ben_lubar I haven't looked at that because that would require significant investment of time in PvP or WvW neither of which I like, or way way way more time in fractals than I've spent thus far.
Also, I like our router's new name.
Much improved over the various BT wifi hubs in the street, or the few people who dared to replace their BT connections with non-BT provided routers.

@ben_lubar everyone's getting geared up before the expansion even though despite the announcement tomorrow, it's going to be weeks before launch. I reckon third week of October.

If people haven't had gear up until this point, what game have they been playing?
-
@ben_lubar of course they have gear, but the rush before expansions to have the best gear they can is not new.
Especially as some of it only came last week in the legendary trinkets.
-
Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire will be free for all players, including the ones who haven't spent any money on the game during this weekend, and the expansion comes out on September 22nd.
Path of Fire does not require Heart of Thorns, but you can buy both of them for $50 or just PoF for $30.
-
@ben_lubar next weekend, not this weekend (Friday 11th Aug to Sun 13th Aug)
But then again I've already bought PoF... only I went for the ultimate edition plus the discounted 4000 gems option. Go big or go home!
-
GW2Efficiency is a pretty great crafting calculator for Guild Wars 2. You tell it what you want to craft and then select whether you're ok with waiting for the trading post, whether it should consider materials you already have to be free, and whether you'd rather wait a few days for daily crafting cooldowns or spend extra money on items other players have crafted with their daily crafting cooldowns.
However, it has a few problems. If you want to craft 10 of an item and you have ingredients for 8 of one of the components, it'll tell you to craft all 10 of that component even if ingredients for 2 of them cost nearly as much as 10 of that component made by another player. If you get the permalink, it only says you want to craft 1 of that item. Thankfully, you can work around both of those problems by making an obnoxiously large URL:
(Embedded using iframely instead of using Markdown so that it's scrollable instead of being super tiny.)
Once I have all of those items made, I'll be able to get Spark of Sentience and some new gloves for my human dragonhunter.

-
@ben_lubar Eternity, of course. But I gotta start with something ;)

Forget Path of Fire, I want this expansion:

SPOILER images of collision geometry from the zone that will be available to everyone from the 11th to the 13th, courtesey of tyria3d.com:

Aurora progress:
Finished the two top-level gifts today. 8 daily cooldowns left for Spark of Sentience, so it's just the Mystic Tribute that's going to take infinity moneys.
After that, I'll have more balls than @PJH.
-
HOW WILL PEOPLE KNOW BALTHAZAR EXISTED???
-
@ben_lubar it's the drawn-on googly eyes that get me.
-
Also, so I'm on Twilight III, which requires me to go to a bunch of places including jumping puzzles to capture the darkness. One of them is Weyandt's Revenge in LA, and after screwing up the initial entrance part a couple of times, I realised there was a superpower way to get through that section flawlessly every time.
Bring a necro, switch to shroud, observe inability to take damage from the stalagmites.
-
The only things I still need for Aurora:
(For the record, that's about $37 worth of gold to get all of it.)
Edit: Technically, I also need Spark of Sentience, but I have it completed except for the Scorched Electrum, and...
-
@ben_lubar Aurora progress update:
I need 2 of each of the items in the top two rows and 250 of the item in the bottom left (mystic coins). Then I combine all of those with 77 mystic clovers (not pictured) and I get a Mystic Tribute which I can combine with the last 3 items to make Aurora.
From left to right, top to bottom, the ingredients I still need for each item cost (at current prices, not counting ingredients I already have in material storage):
- Gift of Blood: 43g72s00c ($2.65/€2.65/£2.25)
- Gift of Totems: 33g46s20c ($2.04/€2.04/£1.73)
- Gift of Scales: 36g08s95c ($2.19/€2.19/£1.86)
- Gift of Bones: 30g80s88c ($1.88/€1.88/£1.59)
- Mystic Coins: 273g48s42c ($16.35/€16.35/£13.90)
(Real world prices provided for reference. I'm not going to buy gems and convert them to gold for this.)
Mystic coins can only be obtained in very small quantities over long periods of time, which explains their high price.

@ben_lubar so... two word answer, Guild Wars? (also, fuck this topic misappropriation linkage)

Actually, three word answer: Guild Wars 2. Or if you'd prefer a six word answer, Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns. Soon to be Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire.

Do ESO weavers have access to an absurd number of weapon skills?

@ben_lubar No, they 'weave' stories that then become reality kind of.
-
@blakeyrat said in Gilled Horse Chew:

That'd be more like the Revenant (invoking history to make memories punch people in the face) or the Mesmer (forcing people to imagine that they're being attacked) or the Firebrand (reading story books about stuff that happened in the desert to heal allies and set enemies on fire).
-
@ben_lubar Actually I'm wrong, they're called spinners.
One of the best quests in the game, The Witch of Silatar, is a spinner's story. It'll make you cry, guaranteed. Part of the Greenshade made story and all the Arania's stuff with the Wilderking and Wilderqueen. Good shit.

So I ran into this bot yesterday:

Status: I need 235 more mystic coins. Players can obtain 18 guaranteed mystic coins per week assuming they complete the skirmish reward track (6+ hours best case, 40+ hours worst case) and defeat the Ley-Line Anomaly to disperse its destructive energy before it overloads every day at least once.
As the wiki says:
First generation legendary weapons and legendary backpacks require approximately 231 Mystic Coins to craft. Second generation weapons and legendary trinkets require approximately 481. A set of legendary armor requires approximately 273 Mystic Coins to craft.

Ok, so with the Path of Fire expansion coming up in less than a month, I'm planning out my new trait setups, and I decided that it might be interesting to look at the 9 elite specializations from Heart of Thorns and how I incorporated them into my builds.

It turns out I ended up gravitating towards anything that applies debuffs to enemies. Chronomancer shield can apply Slow and Stun whereas Herald shield is mostly just regenerating health. Druid is all about supporting your own team, and I didn't go for that at all, but I might end up going for Scourge in the Path of Fire expansion since it's all about crippling, tormenting, and burning enemies.
