I like how the boomstick is pointing at nothing in particular. Very jaunty, care-free, etc., in a way probably best captured in a more British expression.

Looks like the original! Sadly, more of value to collectors as the later editions provide essential errata and updates, but a good find nonetheless.

I recommend my copy of
The True Believer
, since it was torn in half by me at a tender age, testifying to the strength of its argument.
-
@DogsB thanks! Was about to option it.

@DogsB but where did you find out about thumbs, that's what I want to know.

@DogsB that staff's psychoactive. I've seen the grater and the damage done.

If you like history told in entertaining ways, I highly recommend all the books by Roger Crowley.
I've first read "Conquerors: How Portugal Forged the First Global Empire" and "City of Fortune: How Venice Ruled the Seas" and they're both very good.
Then there are (from the one I liked the most to the one I liked least) "Empires of the Sea: The Siege of Malta, the Battle of Lepanto, and the Contest for the Center of the World" (mostly about the siege of Malta in 1565), "Great Constantinople: The Last Siege" (siege of Constantinople in 1453) and "Accursed Tower: The Crusaders' Last Battle for the Holy Land" (siege of Acra in 1191). They are more focused on a single point in time and thus a bit limited because of that, but they're absolutely fascinating accounts of those three battles. I loved the one about Malta in particular.

Hyperion is very good, but that cover... It's obviously The Shrike, but why does it look as a big ass?

I read Hyperion as a young teenager, and for years I vividly remembered the sex scenes, as few as there are.
(in retrospect, it was a bad idea to read it that young. I missed most of the actual content and, even at that time, there were better sources for porn.)

I feel the same way about Dante's Comedy.

Close, but I was thinking of Roger Waters.

It's Raging Rapids. Right by Indiana Beach. It's super sensational, as I suppose, looking at the literal meanings, all amusement parks essentially are. And, it may no longer exist.

I'm currently binging my way through the Bosch books. I just finished #5, Trunk Music last night. Enjoying them a lot. They definitely were translated pretty well to TV. I also like that while there are a lot of the same events, etc, a lot of them are somewhat different, too, so you're not sure about how something will play out based on what happened in the TV show.

I just found this story about some guy who, like Milton, got forgotten about but kept getting paid while . It's quite a good read:
