BUG: my laptop fan isn't spinning
-
Normally, when I browse what.thedailywtf.com, my laptop fan makes a lot of noise. With the new site, my laptop fan doesn't spin.
-
@apapadimoulis Did you check to make sure the fan still has
fa-spin
applied?

To answer the question with the all the seriousness with which it was asked: In my experience of normal CPU fan behaviour, it is an indication that the CPU has to work harder / faster.
Corollary: The current TDWTF Forum can no longer be considered as a good and reliable stress tester for modern high performance systems.
On the other hand: In my experience of abnormal CPU fan behaviour, it would be an indication that the fan has seized.

@apapadimoulis did you install nosmoke.com in your config.sys?

It was a great battery test! now it's just "meh" in that regard.

@apapadimoulis I have a work-around: open any Angular.js project and run GRUNT BUILD. That'll make your laptop fan spin like an enraged Tasmanian Devil for hours on end.
And don't worry, with this stupid front-end I'm sure NodeBB can still turn your cellphone into a perfectly adequate hand-warmer in winter.

@apapadimoulis Are you sure it's still working ?
You can reliably test it here

Preserved for those of us who aren't mods.

You can joke about it, but when I needed to see what temperatures my CPU reached under medium load, opening Discourse on a few tabs actually worked really well.
