New emoji suggestion thread

  • Post your ideas (serious or tongue-in-cheek) for new or alternative emoticons, emojis, and :badger:s .

    Let's start with:

:koolaid: - Kool Aid Drinker, icon: pitcher with red liquid. Indicates that you think someone has bought into something to an unreasoning degree.

:crusader: - Crusader. icon: kite shield with a red Templar (high-transom) cross. Indicates that you think someone is being a bit too emphatic in their position.

:templar: - Templar, icon: knight with a Templar tabard. Same as Crusader, but indicates extreme fanaticism.

:offender: - Offender of the Faith, icon: kite shield with inverted Templar cross in red. Indicates fanatical opposition, or that you are trolling someone who is a fanatic (esp. when combined with :trolleybus: or  )

:open_sores: - Open Sores, icon: band-aid. Indicates fanatical support of Open Source development.

:microshaft: - Microshaft, icon: Windows icon with a dollar sign inside it. Indicates fanatical opposition to Open Source, or devotion to a specific company (not necessarily Microsoft).

:cigar: - Not a Phallic Symbol, icon: cigar. Indicates reading too much into the supposed symbolism of something.

:pipe: - Treachery of Images (or Ceci N`est Pas Une Pipe), icon: tobacco pipe. Indicates taking things too literally.

  • :cooties: - a mini picture of a graph from servercooties indicating that there are problems.

  • :nodebb: - something indicating that custom emoji may be absent for a while when we shift.

    :no_entry_sign: perhaps...

    Better idea..

    :arrows:

Since that's what they'll be for at least a while.... :imp:

:fos_zealot: - penguin with a cross, still insists on writing M$ like it's the 1990's and hasn't grown up yet :)

  • :piss: - piss

That's sort of what I was thinking WRT :open_sores:, actually. Maybe :linut: with the Templar Penguin you describe for a Linux advocate?

Oh, and I wasn't being facetious about the 'not necessarily Microsoft' part, as there are other companies that get equally irrational devotion - though Apple devotees probably should get their own :blow_jobs: apple with dollar sign icon because they are such special snowflakes.

Let's see... I haven't insulted myself enough yet, so...

:lambda: - Knight of the Lambda Calculus, icon: kite shield with lowercase lambda. Indicates excessive Lisp and/or FP partisanship.

  • @ScholRLEA said:

Shouldn't the icon then be ... The Comfy Chair?

  • I feel like it's completely unnecessary to add an emoji for M$. It's already just 2 characters. It's perfectly sufficient on its own, and the emoji text would by definition be longer... even :m$: would be twice as many characters. We don't need an equivalent emoji.

Also, most of these new emoji are targeting specific groups or types of people for derision, and I feel like distilling those accusations down to trite little emoji is wrong. Forcing people to use actual words would reduce the chance of drive-by trolling (we don't need any single-emoji variations of "you're an idiot"... if someone really means to say that, just say it). It would also reduce the chance of misunderstanding because the emoji is an inaccurate caricature, not an accurate retort to someone's post.

That said, I wouldn't mind if there was an emoji for :bandaid:. I'd object to it being called :open_sores:.

Um, you do know what site you're on, right? :trolleybus:

  • Just what we need in here...faster and more obscure ways to call each other names.

  • Winner of the 2016 Presidential Election

We discourage drive by trolling... not the kind you spend effort on :)

Yup, that's exactly the only thing missing. Glad you agree!

There is something wrong with your brain. It probably has to do with Belgium.

I would too, but it doesn't look slim or silver enough to be an iMac.

  • BINNED

What do you think it is then, a dumb terminal? A Raspberry Pi? Because I don't see a case anywhere.

Contrary to popular belief, Apple are not the only manufacturers of all in one PCs. Lenovo, HP and Acer also make them. However, from the side angle, it looks more like a Dell.

  • BINNED

Damn it people, do you have to over analyse every freaking joke, it's like this whole damned place is full of pedants!

    Wait...

  • BINNED

    I rest my case.

  • SockDev

Is it an all in one case?

  • BINNED

It can be, if it's big enough. I usually find I have to chop them up and put them in the separate cases...

Wait, we're not talking about my sex life, are we?

  • :case: for when :briefcase: is too brief when cases are tired or whatever.

  • @Onyx said:

I assumed you were referring to @morbiuswilters.

  • BINNED

    Those things aren't mutually exclusive.
