Hell, I still want to know what the "leader" tag in profile cards means. I was somehow supposed to telepathically know that, too. So far nobody in this thread or over PM has explained that one.

If you click on the Leader badge in someone's profile, it takes you to the badge's page. If you click on the link in the badge's description, it takes you to a meta.discourse.org topic explaining that Leader is Trust Level 4 and what that means.

I'm kind of curious about the reasoning behind it. I really don't care either way, since

A) I understand the meaning of the shield
B) Moderation doesn't really affect me, the most I interact with it is through flags

so I am not bothered by an announcement (or lack thereof). It is a strange policy though.

The odd thing about the shield is that if a user is just an admin, there is no shield. You only get one for moderators (or admins who are also moderators).
Why does a moderator warrant a visual difference on every post but not an admin?

Probably because admin is more "behind-the-scenes" than a moderator. I'd imagine on most forums they wouldn't perform moderator duties as often, and would simply maintain the installation.
