@izzion I intentionally study with distracting music playing. It feels like it's tanking my ability to concentrate, but what it's actually tanking is my ability to skim-read, forcing my brain to actually process what it's reading. Double the studying time but quintuple the retention.
For me, there's a pretty large difference between instrumental stuff and stuff with vocals. The more I could understand of the latter, the more difficult it becomes to do certain tasks (e.g., math). Purely instrumental (or with the kind of vocals that don't make any sense) is less of an issue there. For some reason, it matters less for coding.
For some stuff, a bit of a distraction is good. Keeps the brain a bit occupied, so that it doesn't get too creative and go off on unrelated tangents.

Possible solution to climate change
Apart from my usual skepticism about 1) how well this actually works (cf. the countless claims of revolutionary batteries) and 2) if "geo-engineering" is a good idea, this sounds like really good news. And dirt cheap, too.
-
@topspin Yeah, but we'd still need to reduce CO2 production regardless. The guy says so himself. Ocean acidification would not be impacted by this, for example.

And now, back to the news!
In another confusing element of the story, local media outlets originally reported that the town of Ahlen first considered seizing the wheelchair belonging to the disabled husband of Edda's original owner, as it was first thought to be the most valuable asset the family owned.
-
@boomzilla In Sweden, pets and livestock are considered property, so the authorities could very well do that here as well. Not the ebay part though, it'd be a proper auction. Some pet breeds are priced ridiculously high, so there is a possibility of getting a decent amount of money. If you don't want to get your shit taken, pay your debts.
That said, it's usually avoided since most people consider pets family members.

Except that's only half the story. Over the previous week as the shares were acquired the stock had gone up significantly. The buy-in started on the 19th, when the stock was at €10.40. While the purchase was in progress due to the increased demand stock rose to a record high of €12.60, and since the drop the value normalised around €11.00.

confusing ... media outlets originally reported ...
The town denies it, claiming it violates policy and no town official would even think of such a thing. I don't know whether they actually considered it or not; I don't really trust either the media nor the city official to tell the whole, unvarnished truth.

For example, in some cases, simply scanning a system caused parts of the system to shut down.
Is there any sense to this? Could they argue that if a part of system was successfully scanned, that it would be better to shut it down than to allow scanning to continue? Sort of like the auto-destruct sequence of the Enterprise?
