Want to see Grumpy Cat (get shot in the head)

Yes. If you report something like that you always get the response: "We checked your notification and deemed the content not to be problematic regarding our community policy."
They also admitted that they actually have no teams which have German as their first language working on those reports.
-
Again, it's not opinions. This is straight: "Let's throw some Molotov cocktails at refugees' homes!" which then actually happens.
Yes, that sort of thing isn't hate. It sounds more like incitement (though I'm sure our legal systems have different standards on what that constitutes).
And you're still not quite grasping the mob mentality problem. Figures.
How so? I've agreed with you about stuff that's incitement like. You continue to show an ignorance of American speech laws to think that actual criminal incitement is protected speech.

Right. Because hate speech can't incite. Can I have a "Nitpicker Badge" over here?
-

That sort of thing makes sense. Obviously, responding to user reports is tricky because it invites abuse. But at least we know it isn't hypocrisy now.

How is it not hipocrisy? Titty pictures get deleted immediately and always.
-
Because you don't have to speak German to recognize them?

From an American jurisprudence perspective, the incitement is generally the important part, not the hate (although sadly that's changing somewhat). But maybe you can't tell the difference between, "I hate the lazy refugees, they shouldn't be allowed to live here!" and, "Ali sits around his house all day, let's go beat him!"

Your first example is not something I would call "hate speech". Unless your definition of "hate" also includes stuff like "being annoyed" or "doesn't really like something."

I only have 6GB of RAM and Chrome is built for supercomputers.
I only have 6GB, too. Chrome does occasionally shit itself, but I think that's more due to having 57392 tabs open (at least one of which is Discourse, which is enough all by itself to make any browser shit itself) and doing other memory intensive stuff (gimp, blender, games) at the same time, rather than plug-ins (Adblock Plus, Ghostery, Tampermonkey and Stylish).
-

I think the Svastika, SS runes and similar stuff is internationally recognized. The depiction of which are actually illegal over here.
That's a law created by the Allied, by the way.
-

Whatever, add some ethnic slurs or something. The point is that it wasn't a call to action.

Their "community standards" still forbid this kind of speech.
-
Where exactly am I demanding that they delete stuff from Abu Dhabi?
Normally people who say "free speech does not work" follow up with their preferred list of things that shouldn't be allowed to be said.
-
And you're still not quite grasping the mob mentality problem.
No, you're too stupid to realize we all understand that and did not happen to address it.
Of course if I were you, living in a land that is apparently full of students who can barely remember to breathe and not to stick their tongues in high-voltage electrical outlets, and also are all driving trucks ready to explode, I'd probably have a jaundiced view of humanity too.
-
I'm not quite sure why you think I live in the US?
-
Their "community standards" still forbid this kind of speech.
I know. Still, they rely on people to report stuff. And then they have to interpret stuff. I'm sure that foreign language stuff gets pushed down. And I also doubt that the people doing it are keeping track of crazy speech laws for all the various countries that they presumably have to deal with.
I see plenty of stuff on there (on both sides of various issues) that probably violates the letter of those standards. Thankfully, most of it very rarely gets reported and taken down by facebook. More likely people complain directly or you get a Streisand effect and the person deletes their own content. I'm not talking about things that could be labeled abuse (i..e, posting stuff on other people's walls to annoy / target / harass them).
Serious question: have you reported lots of / some stuff like swastikas or racism? You talked about a response, so I'm guessing you did. When you do so, are you able to put in a reason or is it just a flag?
-
-

Yes, because your lot apparently wasn't able to control themselves. Maybe someday you'll grow beyond needing to be told what you're not allowed to say, but if the students you describe are typical, it's not looking promising.
-

Reminder to everyone engaging in this debate: At least in the US, "free speech" applies only to government actions to restrict speech. Private
forumsfora may set and enforce (or not) any standards they see fit.
-
I'm not quite sure why you think I live in the US?
Nice try, pal, but from the context of this conversation it should've already been obvious I knew you are German and were talking about Germans.

I actually reported one post like that. I was not able to give a reason with text of my own, instead had to rely on radio boxes which did include "illegal content". I got the response I cited.
However, I found a really hidden option (hidden some three pages beyond the response) where I could appeal the response. There I could list my own reason which included a "you do know that you're making yourself guilty of participation in a crime, do you?"
-

I don't know why you don't think that's an accurate label. He's repeatedly talked about how stupid his students are, and other things (like when we were talking about car registration/inspection and he insisted the roads were full of large trucks ready to, I don't remember, tip over in the middle of crowded pedestrian plazas and kill hundreds of orphans or something, so it was vital that nobody be given so much as a day's grace period--if they miss the deadline, THEY NEED TO PAY A FINE.
[btw, this applies possibly to you, and definitely to him: if you are unable to understand hyperbole you should probably not participate in such conversations. I don't think Germany and England are chock-full of brain-damaged Neandertals, although I get the impress you lot do feel that the US is like that.]
Whoosh - bz

Ok. I started reading through this topic, got half way and switch to "find".
No Grumpy Cat getting shot in the head. (Well three and one of those was the title and the other a "tag" (don't ask about the third, the Browser can "whoosh" to it but I don't see it). So I want my money back.....

Well, if you don't want us to get this impression you better stop talking.
-
Yeah, you're one to talk.
And yet I've done all kinds of things and haven't hardly electrocuted myself, caught myself on fire, caused massive deaths on the highway, etc., etc.

The day is still young and I'm hopeful.
Plus, there's always tomorrow.

 Don't you have some students to wrap cotton around to protect themselves?
-
Well why do youtube urls still not include the fucking title? Haven't they figured that out yet?
-
 Don't you have some students to wrap cotton around to protect themselves?
Naw, we're busy exporting "Warning: Contents may be hot" coffee cups.

Slap a cancer warning on and you can sell 'em in California.

My thought process was "Who's a well-recognised yellow person?". I then did a GIS and posted the first image I thought was mildly amusing.

Ah. Ok, I'll nominate myself for a whoosh, then.

You know a related, even more annoying WTF?
You CAN'T have auto-playing videos in Chrome for Android. At all. The Google overlords have decided that bandwidth and memory are too expensive so I mustn't be allowed to. Which is a pain in the ass when browsing animated gifs, because now all "gifs" are webm or mp4 videos (as they should) so you have to click play on every one.
Also, this leaves me with the question: is it possible, at all, to have an animated element on a page (e.g. a loading spinner) without having to rely on gifs or CSS animations?
-
See, @accalia, that's how it's done.
-
Your swap file must exist on a solid state drive. If I open Chrome + Visual Studio 2015, I max out my RAM and my hard drive goes crazy. By the way, I usually never have more than six tabs open at any one time - I get virtual claustrophobia from having too many tabs or windows open.

cancer warning
Good idea. Even if it doesn't cause cancer, it tastes like something that would.

Cardboard usually does.

Actually, related to the original topic:
In June, we announced (https://goo.gl/TF7dmD) that Chrome will begin pausing many Flash ads by default to improve performance for users. This change is scheduled to start rolling out on September 1, 2015.

It's a little-known Discourse feature, but if you scroll backward through the thread you will receive a full refund (mobile data charges may still apply)...

Thanks...

I was sitting here contemplating my most recent post (in this thread) and thinking "How could I better convey the concept of scrolling through infiniscroll" When the song / theme tune Rawhide - as rendered by the Blues Brothers, started being played on the tannoy for Platform 1. Meanwhile back on Platform 2, I found myself singing along except I was singing "scrolling" instead of "rolling".
Can I request an emoji :rawhide: to be created used to indicate the finding of a particular post in a topic?

"Facebook, Google, Microsoft and others have already worked together with government and regulators to prevent people being exposed to illegal, extremist content, using both automatic and manual techniques to identify footage."
I wish they'd use their already existing laws to stop extremist content before it can be recorded.
Because life autoplays, and people are sensitive to that shit.
