Imports (Was: {brace yourselves} the import is coming {Spoiler Alert: Not all of it} [i.e. blakeyrat was not utterly wrong for the first time ever] Filed under: append-only titles.)

Maybe I should post everything in MST3K?
The import will start in a not too distant future, next Sunday A.D.
Yup, that's about as precise as it gets around here. Change approved.
-
Is it just me or is the "new and unread posts" blue bar not showing on the topic list when this topic gets a new post?

Anybody else who sees a scantly clad woman in there?

I don't, and I literally cannot see how you would. I tried to see a scantily clad woman in it and it broke my brain... Now I don't brain good, see?
-
Anybody else who sees a scantly clad woman in there?
If I say yes, will that make you stop asking?
-
will that make you stop asking?
Probably not since
it broke my brain
I did it once but can I do it again?

I see a seal with a ball on its nose…
-
Ooh, it's actually a picture of two different seals at the same time! :D

Can repro ;)
-
Also noticed, I had the "new and unread posts" bar and a notification for two replies in here, no bubble. Click the bar, this topic doesn't get updated with the others.
Yay for another bug!
-
First guess:
topic.archetype == 'regular'
Did anyone notice that there's no offer to summarize the topic?
-
First guess:
topic.archetype == 'regular'
That's probably it; that's the archetype of /t/4028, which is pinned but notbanner
.Also, why does the JSON have
pinned
,pinned_globally
, andunpinned
? Seems there's some redundancy…
-
-
Isn't "unpinned" "this topic was once pinned, but now it's not", as opposed to "this topic has nothing to do with pinning"?
-

Is it just me or does anybody see a seal in that?

Checked the JSON for /t/8649, which was pinned then unpinned;unpinned
is null, like it is for /t/4028, which has never been pinned.
So it seems like a field in the JSON that has no use

You seem oddly surprised. You thought this was what, phpBB?
-
Honestly? No idea what I was thinking…

A dirty mind is a joy forever. And I've been enjoying one for years...
-

You say that like it's the first time you see that JSON.
Filed under: Put topic data in ALL THE POSTS!, If only Handlebars could check the parent object when rendering stuff... But that would be crazytalk!
-
You say that like it's the first time you see that JSON.
It's not the first time I've seen the JSON, but the times I looked before, I only focussed on a few fields; didn't notice the rest
-
Eh. Maybe I notice more because I use mustache myself (Handlebars is mustache with some added syntactic sugar [and HTMLBars is... Handlebars with some added syntactic sugar? I think?]).
For reference:
JSON:
parent: { pkey1: "pvalue1", pkey2: "pvalue2", child: { ckey1: "cvalue1", ckey2: "cvalue2" } }
You could render this, for example as:
{{#parent}} <p>{{pvalue1}}</p> <ul> {{#child}} <li>{{cvalue2}}</li> {{/child}} </ul> {{/parent}}
But, what if you wanted a value from
parent
inside that{{#child}}
block? Oh noes, says Discourse, let's put values from the parent we need in the child as well! We need those topic slugs everywhere!Or, you know:
{{#parent}} <p>{{pvalue1}}</p> <ul> {{#child}} <li>{{cvalue2}} is a child of {{parent.pvalue2}}</li> {{/child}} </ul> {{/parent}}
I'm pretty certain that just
{{pvalue2}}
would work, but I usually write it as above to make it more clear so I'm not 100% sure without checking the docs.
Filed under: Also buttuming Handlebars didn't fuck up basic mustache syntax/features

@PJH what does the topic count look like? According to the script, it imported all the posts.
-
' All Time Last 7 Days Last 30 Days Topics 4.0K 96 471 Posts 273.0K 8.7K 36.7K New Users 140.5K 37 164 Active Users — 307 548 Likes 1208.0K 25.5K 104.6K
from /about.

Stuff is starting to actually appear now AFAICT...
The "Side Bar" WTF Category at least has some 'new' topics in it e.g:
http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/its-ship-has-come-in-dr-dobbs/10957
This might be a better example—it even has a reply...
http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/what-do-real-world-ant-scripts-look-like/10961
Also it looks like all the URLs are still pointing to the old forums, FYI...
-
So how about all of them new (old) posts we now have here, eh?
It seems that there's at least one failure in each step of this process. Truly, the TDWTF way.
-

FTFY. But honestly, do we need any other ones?

I've spotted at least one from @galgorah, but probably only mods+ can see it.
-
Here's an old one of mine:
http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/what-do-real-world-ant-scripts-look-like/10961/2?u=boomzilla
And actually, looking at my post count, It looks like most / all of my CS stuff is in here somewhere.
-
You can see some old stuff here:
-
And actually, looking at my post count, It looks like most / all of my CS stuff is in here somewhere.
eh...wait...no, not all of it. I was confusing my entire 2npost eligible count with my total count.
-
-
Heh...
-
It would seem stuff is starting to pop up:
-
If someone replies, it will start showing up. There are a bunch of things on here (but far from everything). The easiest way to find them is to find an old user and follow the links to the old stuff. Otherwise it doesn't seem to appear in the normal listings.
EDIT: Ah, for some categories, like "General" you can reverse sort on the activity column. It seems a bit of a crapshoot as to what got loaded into the right categories and what's actually there.
-
I'm guessing that something was set to the new topics don't show up as such, but all of the posts inside them are marked as unread.
-
Might just be that they are set to regular but too old for Discourse to show them as new?
I know that when I was away for a month not every topic created showed up as new to me when I returned.
I wonder what happens for people who have a category set to "Tracking" or "Watching", if anyone uses that.
-
I'm not sure which overlapping thing takes precedence. I have everything set to "show it new if I haven't seen it before." I added some categories to "watch," which should be basically equivalent to that. No difference.
I think something has been done to not flood us with notifications, which is probably for the best.
That said, it's pretty clear that we only got a partial import last night. Still no posts from the great inventor of mayonnaise: @Richard_Nixon.
-
Might just be that they are set to regular but too old for Discourse to show them as new?
Also could be to do with your settings:
-
Ah, there it is, I know it was somewhere.
And tracking doesn't have an option "if I read it all". Yay. Also, doesn't track it if I like a post. Because if I liked something, why would I want to come back?
-
If this is actually done, why are emails still disabled?
-
It's only part-done; I'm thinking they may be being done by category?
-
It's only part-done
According to the script, it imported all the posts.
I don't think it's done either unless most of the topics are invisible.
