Why would you be worried about me failing to pronounce a word that means 'measuring bloodflow non-invasively using light'?
-
not that.

doctors are scary!

That's where it was. I knew I'd seen it somewhere here, but didn't remember where, and CBA to discosearch.
-
Apple is scary, though.
Imagine the iKnife with rounded edges *shudders*.

What? You know they're only $35 OTC these days? Sure, a lot of the time they're to keep track of a heart or lung condition, but most of them also measure your pulse, and a pulse ox meter is easier to use and far more portable than a blood pressure cuff.
-
true, true (i even have one) but the OTC ones generally speaking use much shorter, more pronouncable words. :-P
-
promouncable words
I'm not sure how words can inherently be pro this guy, but such is the @accalia of the day. :P
-
according to Chrome that's spelled correctly....
-
ENOREPRO

Run!! @accalia's have mutated! They can infect computers!
-
It's a fox in the machine!
-
I'm guessing it only goes off the first time around.
What are people who need it to go off only the second time around supposed to do?

So long as I'm your second-in-command, that is… ;)

Do I get to be the Royal Hatter? With the power to punish any impostors?
-
obviously.
you will of course be subject to a measly 1% tithe on all proceeds from your hattings.
you will also be imbued with the right to extract payment from all civilians for their hattings at rates set by yourself.
and of course all citizens will be required to be hatted by the royal hatter.

But we get ours for free

It's just the consumer who's paying in the shape of increased prices when everything that cost (possibly from $x.95 ->) $x.99 gets rounded up to $(x+1) when (5¢ and) 1¢ coins get scrapped.
thanks to rounding you'd tend to lose a couple of pennies more often than you gained them (total or .93p)
Most transactions involve more than one item, which pretty much randomizes the last digit of the total cost, which makes rounding to 5c a wash (1, 2, 6, 7 round down; 3, 4, 8, 9 round up). Rounding to 10c would need banker's rounding (1-4 down, 6-9 up, 5 to nearest multiple of 20c) to be fair.
I'm glad there are no bloodsports involving hedgehogs
Motorway driving doesn't count?

What happened to the catgirl army?

photoplethysmography
Took me three tries, but I managed. You just have to divide to conquer: photo - plethys - mography.
Also,
-
you mean the army that will be enforcing those royal decrees?

Oooh!

They won't need to enforce anything, just drive the Hatted subjects.

An under appreciated movie, to be sure.

polyfills
TIL that a Brit coined that term; the term was inspired by this stuff:
Which is an excellent metaphor for what a polyfill does; fills in the cracks in browsers' JS feature support

There's still a cost there. It's just the consumer who's paying in the shape of increased prices when everything that cost (possibly from $x.95 ->) $x.99 gets rounded up to $(x+1) when (5¢ and) 1¢ coins get scrapped.
A bit behind but, still felt I needed to add my 2c (yes, I did it).
In Oz we* scrapped the 1c and 2c coins. When you pay cash any price that ends in a 6 or 7 gets rounded down and 8 and 9s get rounded up. Card transactions go through with the exact amount.
Filed under: Technically "they" as I was a UK resident when the change* was made, **Yes, I also went there

What about prices ending in 1, 2, 3, or 4? Magic happens when paying cash?

I left those as an exercise for the pedantic reader

Is this a real thing? Fuck nose.

Sexually induced sneezing, something like that? CBA to google, but it was linked upthread.

I was about to say something, but reply-to context thing decided to actually be useful this time.
I have now reached a point of being genuinely surprised when something works properly...
