After years of conditioning users to "untick" the box to avoid spam, they suddenly flipped the logic and magically saw a rise in spam list participation?
-
I'm hesitant solely because I'd have to regsiter with them. Do they just ask for the typical email etc. stuff that doesn't haev to be relevant?
Then someday I might buy Natural Selections 2 (same devs)

@Gąska said in Game Deals Thread:
@ChaosTheEternal got it!
Okay... so what is this game? Do I even want it?
It is a classic game. I've been told it is pretty good.
-
@kazitor I have no idea what the Epic store is like but if they're giving away Subnautica for free then it is absolutely 100% worth whatever signup process there is. Seriously.
-
Apparently the Epic Games header/footer swallows middle/ctrl clicks on links and instead opens them in the same tab.
At least they aren't swallowing right clicks so you can open things in a new tab that way, but seriously, are you doing messing with basic browser behavior?

It's a very good adventure game. I haven't tried this version, but I liked it back when it was new.

It seems pretty standard as far as taking an email address, having useless social features, wanting to run all the time but you can turn it off in Settings, and so on. Throw it on the pile with the other game stores and ignore it most of the time.

In addition to my religious conviction (Church of Gaben) discouraging me from using it they have 16 char limit for usernames. So my handle is too long (that's what they said).

I don't know about US law, but I can't imagine that being legal under the EU anti-bulk-email legislation.

Two Ubisoft-related ones:
Anno 1602 is free on UPlay until the 22nd. Yes, it's old.
For folks in the US, Google is testing its game streaming project with Assassin's Creed Odyssey. You need to sign up with a Google Account; if you're selected you have to log into the game with a UPlay account. You get the PC version of the game on that UPlay account when the test ends.
-
...and two from Steam.
Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion is free for the next couple of days.
Geneshift (Early Access: 2D overhead car-based battle royale) is also free for a day or two.
I used to have Sins on Impulse, but that went away when Gamestop shut the service down. Haven't played the other one, but there's not much harm in adding another game to the list of ones that aren't installed.
-
@Parody I have "installed" both without actually going ahead and downloading. They have been added to the library, saying "purchased today".
Do you know if it will remain like this after two days? I guess time will tell, if no one else will first.
-
@Zecc These ones are permanent additions to your library. Temporary ones show a date when they expire, IIRC.
-
@Zecc I remember when time-limited freebies used to show up occasionally in my library – they'd have something like "2 days left" appended to the title. The fact that these initially don't appear, then do without a displayed expiry, is probably indication that you get it forever.
-
@kazitor So does the description as 'yours to keep'. But, you know, what you said too.

wording
-
Why are all these crappy time limited demos being treated as "deals" all of a sudden? In shareware days, you used to get 1/3rd of the game for free, for fucks sake.
-
@cartman82 The Hunt for Red Rock Rover! Troubles with Twibbles! Romancing the Rose!
-
@cartman82 You're thinking of free weekend type deals where the game turns back into a pumpkin at the end of the period. In this case it's the full game, and it was free if you caught the deal when it was ongoing. For example, Geneshift that I posted isn't free in the store anymore, but it's still in my library.
Anyway, I just got an email from Ubisoft saying that there was some unusual and suspicious activity on my account.

The latest free game from Humble Bundle (for another day or so):
These LEGO® games are all very samey, but they're fun, family-friendly, and you can play two player co-op.
-
SOMA is available for free on GOG for the next 43 hours:
-
@ChaosTheEternal If you're not using GOG Galaxy and instead using a browser, like some sort of Neanderthal, your mileage may vary:
try{ document.querySelector('.cart-button__state-giveaway').addEventListener('click', function(e){ const target= event.target.querySelector(".giveaway-button"); if (target){ target.click(); } } catch(e){}
ReferenceError: `event` is not defined.

@TwelveBaud I was wondering what the fuck is going on myself. But it worked when I switched to Chrome.
-
@Gąska It didn't work for me on the page linked, but it worked from a banner on the homepage.

Expired licenses are often the reason from games being delisted like this. It happened with Activision’s Spider-man games, while Alan Wake was delisted because of its licensed soundtrack.
Holy shit I didn't know this is a thing. Time-limiting licenses for finished and released works should be illegal.
-
@Gąska I'm so used to OSTs I didn't even know any games licensed their soundtracks in the first place.
-

Any media franchise is a vast collection of licenses. This becomes an issue now that products can stay "on the shelf" forever.
Since Warner is saying they are unlikely to come back any time soon, I wonder if the actual licensing issue is between The LEGO Group (the toy company) and the Middle-Earth movie franchise.

The free game on the Epic Store is now What Remains of Edith Finch. I haven't played it yet, but it's apparently mostly walking simulator with a sprinkling of minigames?

That had to be the longest captcha I've had to solve. First they asked me where the buses were, then some new images appeared, then it switched to bicycles, then more images of bicycles, then buses again. I clicked "Verify" some 5 times.

It seems it does still have a few people playing, allegedly. I'm certainly not desperate.

@kazitor And all of them have been for years. Which means you'll have to play the unpopular faction and get yelled at because you don't know what you're doing.

DISTRAINT: Deluxe Edition is available for free on GOG for the next 41 hours and 14 minutes:
-
I don't know about this but it's free
-
GOG.com is having a sale, probably some good stuff in there.
-
@hungrier well, if you're into good old games (pun only partially intended), and don't have them already. -75% for Witcher, Divinity, Torchlight, Gothic, and a bunch of others.
-
1st better than 3rd better than 2nd, but play them in order.
Or just the first, but you may miss out on closure. Just don't stop playing after the second.Edit: there are four games. I guess I mentally lumped the 2nd and 3rd installments together and thought of the 4th as being the 3rd.
This promo does not include the 4th game, so I guess if you play these you're going to end on a bit of a cliffhanger. Still worth its price, I guess.

The puzzles are actually doable without having to resort to a walkthrough to find out you're actually supposed to combine the christmas-cake with the herring, and then use it on the statue's nose.
But, it has some major issues with the humour being not just bad-taste but actually vile in places. I'm not a either.
The ending is actually really damn good for a game, and quite fitting really.

Deponia: The Complete Journey does not include the new sequel Deponia Doomsday!
Complete Journey.
Somehow I missed this being released, awesome!
