Discourse DMZ
-
The problem with Discourse, though, is no testing at all.
I don't think any TDWTF member in this thread is arguing against this point. I'm just having a side conversation about testing habits in non-Discourse companies at this point :)

You don't want to know what I've seen.
-
-
Hired, you are far more effective than @blakeyrat or @Arantor
Hey you haven't seen how useful I can be if you paid me money. I don't buy into the open source bullshit. Mostly because it always results in cruddy products like Discourse.
-
And it's a fuck sight harder if you're trying to do your bugtracking on a piece of forum software. Do you, perchance, use Gimp to do your time recording?

I thought that image was being silly representation.
Nope, that's actually what he said.
-
Hey guyz, eviltrout is doing the best he can.
-
He has to deal with jeffs bullshit too, so he's probably telling the truth.
-
Being a spineless sycophant to cash a paycheck is doing the best he can.
-
Wasnt it you who said you'd be surprised how helpful you can be of you're paid?
-
Yes, but what I meant by that is that I can advance the goals of the project efficiently.
I did not mean that I'd jump-to and salute every time a manager barfed-out an ill-thought-out feature request.
Although in this particular case, I'm not sure there's much of a difference between "barfed-out ill-thought-out request" and "the goals of the project".

Don't you have an entire thread for complaining about how ineffectual you are on your current job? But how you don't want to quit so you don't burn bridges? etc...
-
No, you have it slightly off.
He's waiting for a better opportunity so he can burn every bridge in the nation.
-
-
Yes, I know, @eviltrout says "we use unit tests, we use UI testing frameworks, blah blah blah". But if you look at the fixes for bugs, they do not contain tests to detect regressions of that bug.
+1 for the observation, that's a very good point.

Just to remind you: he is co-founder. He's all the way in, he has taken the bait hook, line and sinker.
-

Not due to anything I'm doing, though.
-
Does "co-founder" actually mean "co-founder", or is it one of those inflated titles grunts get to make them feel better? Like calling the guy who cleans the toilets at Target an "associate".
Because if it does actually mean "co-founder", then the sycophantic behavior is even more mysterious.

You can check it out here. Robin Ward approached Jeff and when Jeff finally decided to go ahead with Discourse he was in from day one.
-
Ugh. Now I'm just disgusted with him.

How much more do you really need to see before you're sure?
-
+1 for the observation, that's a very good point.
Yeah, I've brought up several times that most commits I've looked at don't touch the tests dir.

Oh, sorry, didn't notice... I'm not too active apart from just a few threads that basically take up all my time.

Pretty sure at least one of my rants were in that thread, too. Well, some of these are only somewhat related, but...

Serious question how much would I have to pay you to stop posting. I feel like you'de be really effective in that role.

It just takes some patience. He's a little overdue for a ragequit.

He also has a few sympathisers now. I probably shouldn't admit this but I'm in that club.

I have a bit of a soft spot for him, too, since he thinks so highly of me.

Contact me, let's talk. I am not above taking hush money.

The level of service you get depends on the reliability of the currency I'm paid in.
Now that you're replying here again, what's with the "yes sir, can I have another!" you're giving to Atwood if you're a co-founder of this mess?
-
Are you talking about the feature that someone proposed, I replied and said I liked, then Jeff asked me how long to do it? And I said not much so he said he agreed? Is that a controversy now?
-
Yes. Because this is the kind of crap you're doing instead of fixing bugs. We've already gone over this.
I want the bugs gone.

So where does that fit into your queue of stuff to do? How do you keep an eye on that and prioritize it?
-
The queue is like the new posts feature, whatever is posted in last is the first thing worked on.
Kind of because the discourse bug tracker is discourse, and that's how it sorts posts.
-
Considering their bug/request tracker is a forum, I assume they just take from the top.....
Either that or sort by one of the heat maps and then it could be in any (probably inconsistent) arbitrary order.
EDIT- beaten to it by @Matches.
-

Previously, I asked @codinghorror how they could prioritize things. He said they sort by the Likes Column. Oops.
There's no evidence that the Discourse project is anything but an adhocracy. That's fine and fun for doing side projects, but not so great for supporting paying customers.
EDIT: Emphasis added by popular demand

+1 for the snark.
-
You know that's a borderline bug right? Clicking on user avatars almost everywhere else brings that up, so it should be fixed. It's also probably 5 minutes of work, so, like chill dude.
-
What prioritization processes do you have that aren't "Jeff says it's a good idea offhandedly in a forum thread"? Because maybe that works sometimes for small things, but that's all we're seeing and it's not a good long-term strategy.
-
I'll chill when you give me those directions on how to use VBulletin with the what.thedailywtf forums.
I don't want to use your software. I want it to go away.
-
Right about now I wish I liked popcorn.

adhocracy
Great word - I'm stealing that for work. You know that's a borderline bug right? Clicking on user avatars almost everywhere else brings that up, so it should be fixed. It's also probably 5 minutes of work, so, like chill dude.
Maybe but there do seem to be bigger issues which have been around for a while while fairly minor (and arguably lower priority) ones like this get fixed quickly.

So it just jumps the "queue"?
