NOT something you want to see on your server first thing in the morning.
God no, it looks like... is that NT4?!

Windows Server 2008, I think. With Total Commander. Never leave your desktop without it.

cmd doesn't expand anything. Wildcard processing is done by the application on Windows.
.... that's what i though!
so i was right!
although, yeah on linux the more popular shells do the expansion for you. of course most of the GNU utils will do the glob expansion for you inteligently (just quote the GLOB to stop the shell processing it, see that the util did it for you anyway) which is handy when you don't want the shell to expand a glob to <saganvoice>billions and billions</saganvoice> of entries

Do you have magical fingers that can magically press the "stop" button when your magical ears hear the magical end of the movie?
I'm not always sitting at the computer when it happens. Rifftrax are frequently "background watching", stuff I put on while cooking dinner or sweeping my house or folding laundry or what-not.
@Lorne_Kates said:
Why do you hate artists? Thief.
That's the exact point! I didn't steal it, but I'm being treated like I did.
@Lorne_Kates said:
Seriously, though, if I'm saying your being overly sensitive about some non-intrusive advertisement, you are going way overboard.
It is intrusive, and it implies I stole the video when I didn't.
You don't have to agree with me, I'm just telling you how I feel and why I buy fewer Rifftrax films now.
@Lorne_Kates said:
You had to go to their website, find a movie you wanted, go through a checkout process, and download a file. Just just have to do one more click to jump to the minute-and-a-half mark. Finish what you started.
The first time I buy the movie I usually acttively watch them. Subsequent times are usually "background watching".

Maybe if you used actual Windows Explorer instead of some piece of useless shit from 1992, you wouldn't have to wait 5 minutes to see a list of files.. JUST A THOUGHT!

Since Windows Explorer has this weird thing called "windows" implemented, you can just use it like a twin-panel file manager any time you want. Just move one of the "windows" (such a weird unusual thing for software to have!) next to another "window".

Zabbix is awesome for keeping track (and being automatically alerted) of what's happening on Linux and Windows servers and clients. It's saved me before when WSUS went crazy and tried to fill up the drive.
all the Adobe CC stuff is crashing on launch
I've just made a new profile and all the Adobe stuff now works fine. THE OLD ONE WAS A NEW PROFILE TOO ADOBE. What the hell.
I just need to get rid of the thing quickly before it breaks again.

Well, that would be pretty useless because none of the key combos or workflows that make twin panel managers so useful would work in that setup. You'd still have to slowly, carefully drag files from one explorer to the other using your clumsy monkey paws. But that'd at least leave the other hand to pick your nose, which seems to be your true motivation,

Got burned a bit when I added something to the top only for it to complain and I had to scratch my head for a second:
Msg 196, Level 15, State 1, Line 60 SELECT INTO must be the first query in a statement containing a UNION, INTERSECT or EXCEPT operator.

What does it do?
It's a crappy reverse-engineer of Active Desktop (as seen in Windows 90's).
Continuing the discussion from Windows is too easy:

Aha! Found it! (Well, the compiled debug version, NFC where the source went).
ActiveDesktop.exe (21.5 KB)
Usage: Right click the notification icon to add an item or exit. Each item can be resized (or closed) by clicking the dot-hamburger on the top-right corner of the item.
Due to the way it was implemented, each item is displayed in an IE container, probably in Compatibility Mode.Have... fun?
-
Funnily enough one of the reasons I hated linux desktop was dreadful file system explorers. xplorer2 is my favorite. so much so that I actually asked for licenses at work. oddly enough I got one.
STATUS I am TR. I spend ten minutes unzipping a file only to discover that it has got a .zip x extension and needs winzip to extract its contents. I went on to discover that our eclipse product has been shipped with local history enable (unbeknown to us) and the reason a user's application has ground to halt is that it's history is over 3gb in size.

Status: I want to find the moron who thought
NULL + 'string'

-
thought NULL + 'string' resolving to NULL was a good idea
From what I understand, the logic was similar to "What does 1/0+1 equal? Well, +1 no longer applies since you got an indeterminant part just before it. Indeterminant mixed with anything results in indeterminant."
-
^----- what he's saying
-
C++ has special fun for anyone who tries to add two string literals together.
-
it's been a long time since i did c++, but using + on string literals it's like adding two pointers?
-
Yep. And there's no warning in G++ that I've been able to find a way to turn on. So you just end up with some random pointer.
Why is adding a pointer to a pointer a thing?
-
Why is adding a pointer to a pointer a thing?
It's really not. http://coliru.stacked-crooked.com/a/675b34c54e74d695
You can subtract them to get an offset, and add an offset to them, but you can't add two pointers. Whatever your code was, it wasn't doing that.
-
Oh, I found the buggy code:
It was me confusing a
const char *
for astd::string *
. Still, it shouldn't be legal to add the first character of a string to a pointer. That's just bad design inherited from C.
-
This is gonna take a while.
del /s/q c:\inetpub\mailroot\badmail
won't work for you?ETA: Whoops, I thought I saw subdirectories.
-
This is gonna take a while.
del /q c:\inetpub\mailroot\badmail*.BPD
del /q c:\inetpub\mailroot\badmail*.BAD?
That may not get subdirectories--you need
/S
for that.ETA: See my post above this one.

Yeah, it's the dumb annoying implicit conversions all over the place.
char
can be promoted intoptrdiff_t
which gets caught under "adding offset to a pointer".
-
Not disagreeing with you. I've tried to get it changed but apparently this is HARD.
-
the moron who thought NULL + 'string' resolving to NULL was a good idea
What should it resolve to? Also, if you want Oracle you know where to find it.
-
What should it resolve to?
Ideally, an error; that way, I'd have found out about the issue much earlier

The lack of static (or even strong) typing in SQL has been one of my biggest complaints about it for a long time.

Status: Wet. Soon to be poorer.
Water heater failed sometime in the last 24 hrs. Basement has 40gal of water now. Took 4.5hrs with a friend to empty it. Now waiting of water cleanup folks. Plumber has been here. Why is it that I always seem to wait for a disaster before upgrading appliances... sigh. Soon I'll have a tankless system. (About 10? years ago my furnace failed in the middle of winter - upgraded to a high efficiency then.)
edit: discovered this when I went to take a shower this morning and there was no hot water. So much for going to work today,...
update: My dog really doesn't like strangers in the basement and a noisy Stanley Steamer truck. But the basement no longer has standing water! And the new water heater is here, just have to wait for the plumbers to finish up another job.

del /s/q c:\inetpub\mailroot\badmail won't work for you?
Dunno. Wouldn't that delete the entire directory?
Windows 3.1 called. It wants its font back.
Well I'm not giving it back.
