Dim someSum As Decimal = 0 someSum = Math.Round((oldValue + newValue), 2).ToString("0.00")
Perfect use of both the type system and the standard library!

It's future-proofed for when the first day of January moves or the number of days in December changes.

In some code only I have ever touched, so can't blame this on any other idiot:
DECLARE @someThingID BIGINT SELECT @someThingID = someThingID FROM dbo.someThing WHERE thingname = @thingname AND ItemID = @itemID AND otherID = @otherID AND ThingName = @thingname
Yeah, checking the same column twice with different casing.
I was probably short on sleep that day

Clang!
Oops, one of them fell on the floor. But that's ok, it's all just groceries and expendable crap. Oh and one bag with my new hdd.
But come on, what are the chances...
Yup.

Yup.
.... you were carrying the HDD bare and not in any sort of padded /shipping case?

Just the unpadded plastic baggy they gave me.
I almost made it all the way to the end too. :-)

.... where'd you get it that they dodn't have any sort of padding on it?
i mean even a jiffy bag would have been something....
-
Seems to be working, at least.
Quick question: what's the latest wisdom on this?

They always come like that.
You only get packaging when you order it for delivery.

Anything above 2 TiB - GPT, otherwise you won't be able to format the rest.
Also, GPT has a backup table and all that nifty stuff so it should be more disaster-prone.

Thanks!

Oh, also, if you want Windows on in, make sure you set your computer to use UEFI boot.
Not sure if other OSs can do some magic and boot from GPT when using legacy boot, but Windows can't, that much I'm sure of.
-
I think disaster-proof is the word you're looking for.
Note you can only boot from GPT if your computar is UEFI and running in UEFI mode and only from MBR in BIOS.
And until Windows 10, the official Windows install ISO didn't include a UEFI boot header and therefore you could only install Windows to MBR from DVD.
Win10 fixed that idiot mistake.
-
Quick question: what's the latest wisdom on this?
Linux only: GPT
Windows only and < 2TB MBR
Windows < 7: Why are you still running that? ... fine.... MBR as GPT support is sketchy.
Windows >= 7: GPT, but be warned that you can't boot off of it unless running UEFI (unless M$ fixed that?)
-

Not sure what I'll use it for in the long run.
For now, I'll use it backup my main SSD, so I can clean it, split it in two and install Windows 10 / El Capitan dual boot on it.

It is, yes. I've been writing anti-joins in SQL the whole day, give me a break

i've never seen a brick and mortar store that handed out HDDs in just the ESD bags... they're always in little cardboard boxes that have plastic inserts to provide at least a little cushioning of the drive.
where exactly did you get it?

One of the tiny computer stores that I picked because of prices, had good experiences with warranty and convenient parking. Name wouldn't mean anything to you.

that just makes me more curious....
i'll take the answer over PM if you don't want it public.

huh.... you weren't kidding about the prices....
i wonder how much international shipping is.....

Are you kidding me? Hardware prices in Serbia are all like 20-30% higher than on newegg. Last router and headphones I bought, it was cheaper to ship from freaking USA and China than buy locally.
-
One good thing about the whole EU deal? I can now go to Slovenia and buy hardware there, because it's damned cheaper there, and not worry about the customs
-
Are you kidding me?
The odds are good.
also it's a game i like to play from time to time... 'How much would that cost to ship here?"
so far the winner is an order of belgian chocolate that i was looking at that would cost 4x the list price to ship because the manufacturer ships them out on dry ice...
-
belgian chocolate
I can get you that
dry ice
no, it would be more a pray it didn't meld packaging
And now I am curious: what where you going for?
-

hmm..... melded chocolate.....

well at the time i was just playing the "how much would this cost to ship game.i was rather bored in class and none of my friends were awake/on IRC at the time.

STATUS: Beginning the process of switching all my HDD-s to ExFAT. Hopefully, this will work better than terrible third-party NTFS drivers on Mac.
-
STATUS: Quick tip for desktop developers: if you're gonna have an auto-update feature in your app, then MAKE IT FUCKING WORK AUTOMATICALLY.
Don't expect me to manually download the app and then click through the installer again (with mandatory step of hunting down and closing the existing instances, because the installer is TOO STUPID to do it itself).

I was pretty sure you could get NTFS to work out of the box on Mac with a little
/etc/fstab
fuckery.

NTFS read works. For write, you need third-party drivers, which are terrible.
-
I meant write without third-party drivers.

Interesting. I'll have to try this out.
Once you find half your music collection corrupted by stupid Mac shitting all over it, you think twice before allowing it to mess with your data.

There's also this which was linked in the comments below that article. May be worth a shot (although review the source code first, 'tis an

It basically automates what the guy in the video did.
-
Linux ones work fine. No-one ported / stole code from those and made them work on a Mac? That's a bit odd.

Decimal separator confusion?

The transphobia thread is... on second thought, let's not go there, 'tis a silly place.
-
That was my first thought after posting.
-
TRWTF is that the thread is such a desolation that the members of the forum who are actually genderfucked won't get involved in it anymore.
-
I saw enough stupid within first 100ish posts to run the hell away for the sake of my sanity, despite the... what do they call it... my cis-ness?
-
-
No, but reading that thread too much might lead to it.
-
Drinking this thread too much may result in the same.
-
. my cis-ness?
Or sissy-ness, in my case I guess.
As for my own status WRT gender... oh, fuck, where do I even start? The irony is that most people see me presenting as non-gendered (my default state, maybe 80% of the time) and peg me as male because, hair on body instead of head and no tits, must be a guy, but masculine is the gender state I'm least likely to be in. I rarely say anything, it would be pointless most of the time, but it sort of pisses me off.
I'm slowly building up the courage to make a more feminine presentation, but, uhm, Georgia. Even around Atlanta or Athens it would be putting my life in my hands. Hell, even if I am ever able to move back to the Gay Area (which I've been trying to arrange), it wouldn't be the safest thing to do.
