less fun than building a bot, but i take your point.

I just saw a senior linux admin create a shell script that executes a command on multiple sets of arguments (
./do_stuff.sh A1 B1; ./do_stuff.sh A2 B2; ...
).He formatted all the arguments in an Excel spreadsheet, added the ./do_stuff.sh call in the upper left cell and stretched it down. Then copied everything, pasted it in vim and saved into a sh file.
Er - sounds like too much work to me (at least given the presumably simplistic anonymisation)....
for x in {1..1000}; ./do_stuff A$x B$x; done

Reading an article about how my high school may decide to change their mascot name, it's currently the Redmen.

Also, I'm quite amazed at how many database columns we have that share their names with reserved SQL keywords.

Ticket C!
This looks very similar to Tickets A and B. This is not civilized behavior and will not be allowed.

Ugh, sorry to hear about that.
I wonder if @blakeyrat has anything to add.

I had a 6 month role that degenerated into this and it wasn't much fun. I posted some of the more juicy WTFs over at the other place....

Sounds like a perfect solution to me. I'll see if I can apply this scheme here immediately.

Since my company is retarded, I'm working on a project with a DBA that's split into two components, the DB side and the application code side.
The only problem is, there's no application code to change. The "application code" work is using a front end in the application to update settings for the report in the database, using an interface that belongs on the front page of this site.
Since this is the most retarded thing I've ever done professionally, I'm pretending to not understand why anything has to be changed on the front end, when all of the settings are in the database.
That being said, I'm a .NET developer, and I don't do .NET code at this job. sigh

Freddy: So what? So what you saying?
Kit: What am I saying? KKK appears in this script 486 times!

"Upon reviewing the specs (which we really don't have), it has come to my attention that no application code needs to change for this project."
I wonder how long I'd keep my job after sending that email.

Tests that were passing 2 months ago are now failing. Tests that were failing have still-open bug reports, but have not actually been fixed. Supervisory script is hanging waiting on a subprocess. And I'm supposed to be working on a different project now.
It's 17:30; I'm going home.

No because even the most stupid can figure out the follow up question: "Then how am I supposed to do it?"

I've always found that the most important thing is not to have to worry about limited "sick days".
-
I haven't had specifically sick days in over a decade. In that time, about the only time I used them because I was sick was when I had pneumonia, though I have used a few caring for family members. All of my days off have been lumped into a single pool, which avoids certain classes of employee lies about why they're taking time off.

Fair enough. We have a nominal amount but the HR manual says you can take more if you need to but you may need a medical certificate.
The worst part is that the place I work has a cultural problem where people think it's better to drag yourself in like a "hero", coughing and sniffling through the day. Ads like this don't help...

People seem oblivious to the obvious self interest of a cold/flu "remedy" manufacturer recommending sick people go out and infect their colleagues.

That's quite common I think (and it gets worse during economic downturns), and especially during the flu season not exactly smart. But there are exceptions. I once got told to go home before spreading anything to more important people, although it may not count, because I was an intern at the time.
