Only? Damn. That would work then.
I don't even have Excel installed!
But it's the best programming environment ever!

I blame the combination of overtime and amounts of rage I experienced at work today. Went a bit [more]crazy[than usual].
I blame a SNAFU last night that caused us to have to work from 11:30PM-6:30AM today. If I get sufficient motivation to do so, I plan on writing it up.

Status: Came to work to the sound of klaxons and screams of the wounded (well, ringing phones and whining of users, but that doesn't sound as dramatic).
For some reason AD authentication on the Samba share just decided to die. Samba share hosts files for an ancient FoxPro application that's critical for the functioning of the company whose servers are on the fritz. As a stopgap (until the end of the workday) I removed all security on that particular Samba share (I know, I know...).
The application still whines about failing to access files. Now creating an emergency backup as I'm going to attempt to
chown
the whole damned thing toroot
(current owner is10001112:10001111
) and to hell with it all. It's still copying the measly 12GB of data at a horrible rate.Update: It was not the ownership. Which I changed on the "live" folder after the copying was deemed "too slow". Forgot to map the
guest
to a local user insmb.conf
. It now works. Looks like more overtime analyzing this shit and fixing up the mess today. FML.

So that does mean more frustration and more hanging around here?

Status: Checking a user complaint because the application spews to few 'errors'. Is it broken or working correctly?
Note: no real application errors are mentioned, just lists of handled cases that require human intervention before continue in the billing cycle.

Possibly. Analysis / fixage might get shifted to Saturday though. Which I don't really like for multiple reasons.
And how is that grinning? Stupid emojicons...

HELP! The computers are making my life easier!
To be fair: I got suspicious as well ... know our app it might be just failing to report that there are blocked cases or it might be failing to block those cases which is even worse ...

I have a huge collection here from a custom built set for Pidgin. I might pick the good ones and create a list with easily copyable

A list is the first step in any case.

A load of AJAX links are no longer AJAXifi- oh, wait, I fucked up.
I took a hint from Discourse (yes, they did something right*) and I'm just using history API at this point. No need to screw around with adding
.onclick()
handlers to dynamically loaded elements, no extra classes to indicate "Don't AJAXify this one"... I am now a happy camper.
* Even history spam is not their fault, technically.
history.replaceState()
should do what the name implies. All browsers implement it the same ashistory.pushState()
though.

Actually, I need AJAX links; I'm adding invoice items on-the-fly

OK. So if you use the history API you just:
window.onpopstate = function(event) { // Do your stuff here. You can access the link that you clicked using event.target };
Instead of adding click handlers to everything.
Possible caveat: compatibility table
-
…I'm not changing the URL though; just adding rows to a table.

Status: Investigating a latency issue. Two lines of C code which read 12 bytes and write 8 bytes sometimes take three seconds to execute in a real-time-priority, locked-in-memory process.

'' txtExpirationvalue is a textboxy thing bound to a CalendarExtender '' The format of the Calendarextender is "d" - the .NET format for ShortDatePattern Dim sExpiration As String() Dim expirationValue As String sExpiration = txtExpirationDate.Text.Split(".") expirationValue = sExpiration(1) & "-" & sExpiration(0) _manager.SetGlobalParameter(Globals.ANNUAL_EXPIRATION_DATE, expirationValue)
I hope that that was written by that one former coworker and not the one who sits to the right of me.
EDIT: It was written by the one who still works here. Urgh.
EDIT²: Explanation for people who haven't had their coffee yet:
German dates are written "dd.MM.yy" - this horribly goes wrong in other locales
I'm sure we could find you a place to hide until the heat blows off. Also, I find crowbars to be very effective at skull cracking.
Just saying.

Maybe @aliceif should speak to that Gordon guy about procuring a crowbar…

this one?
although technically that's a demobar or a wreckingbar depending on manufacturer
this is a crowbar (also called a handybar or a wonderbar)
-

no, but i had to try three times to get wreckingbar correct.

Better a halligan.
Almost enough to make me want to be a firefighter.
Related: if I was a cop, I'd want to be the guy that operates the battering ram.

peanutbutter and caramel‽
@ACCALIA WANTS!

agreed, but that's not what Gordon Freeman uses.
I haven't cared about ALF in decades.

Re: Edit 2
Multiple accounting applications I installed for people around here had a "solution" for this: They check the system date format on startup and refuse to even start until you set the format exactly as they want it.
So far I haven't seen two such ...wonders of human ingenuity clash with their requirements. So far.

They're only called "Wunderbar" in Germany and Canada, apparently. "Starbar" seems to be the international name.

well.... yes. there's not a dickweedish bone in my body. I may try, but i'm never getting a pedantry badge i fear.

if you swing by the paint department for some metal bonding spray paint they do.
