status what the hell happened to the audio people on the continental? Were they struck retarded? They constantly have music on if there isn’t dialogue. Like constantly. Its like they had a music playlist running then cut in the dialogue afterwards. I had to turn it off. The volume is all over the place too.
The opening action sequence was pretty nifty though.

The physical version is cheaper than the digital download code. The one I can’t loan to friends, resell, or anything like that. And which is obviously cheaper to produce and distribute, too.
In what mad world does this make sense?

Assuming the positive version by convention.

The one where physical copies take up warehouse space, so it can be desirable to sell them at a loss?
-
@PleegWat then, idk, don’t sell them in the first place?
Since when do additional costs mean lower price?

@topspin said in The Official Status Thread:
@PleegWat then, idk, don’t sell them in the first place?
Since when do additional costs mean lower price?I'm assuming the physical copies are leftover stock, either from before the digital-only version was available, or because they assumed it'd sell and it turned out not to.
Consider the digital-only copy also doesn't involve shipping time and costs. so some people may prefer it for that reason.
-
@PleegWat it’s pre-order, so that’s not left-over stock.
-
@topspin In that case I agree it's weird.

Status: Not surprised at all.
Several years ago, I had a "Japanese" toy distributor account. I dumped it because it was cheaper to order from Japanese retail. Prices weren't terrible (or great) at first but, not long after, I started getting absolutely wrecked on shipping because everything was shipped twice - once to the middleman in Florida and then up to me.
In the last year, they started e-mailing me way more solicitations/newsletters than they ever did before for some reason. So I decided to look and see what was new. God damn, are they even more of a fucking train wreck.
Their site was never very good. Biggest problem was the search engine. It only worked with certain words and limited to 500 results.. For example, it could never find "Convoy" or "Takara" the Japanese name for Optimus Prime and brand licensee respectively. The only way I could get it to return TransFormers was to search "TransFormers." Once Takara had released 500 TransFormers, it errored out. This was a big deal because none of the front page category links ever worked. So not long after I stopped ordering, I couldn't order.
Everything's still broken, though the error messages have changed from "too many results" to "zero results found" on everything. They want you, instead, to use links in an XLSX file stored in cloudy cloud land.
I don't know how they built those links but they don't work on Corel's version of Excel. I know, I know, but it's been surprisingly good at opening every other XLSX document I've thrown at it. Here it says "can't load formula, only its value" and, for a hyperlink, that appears to be the label only. In this case, the item number with no other context. Anywhere.
I decided to pump it through an online viewer. Most are fucking useless because they can only read surface values, leaving me right back where I was with (an ancient version of) Quattro Pro. Ironically, the one that converted to XLS was the one that actually worked. It's a
=HYPERLINK()
formula that fucking Excel 2000 recognizes. And, of course, nothing's changed. A set that would cost me $81 before shipping at retail costs $132 before shipping through these bozos. This is what passes for "wholesale" in some parts of the world. How are these people still in business? I only found them by accident and nope'd out pretty quickly.

Is there a lot going on in other windows? Window compositing shows up in the 3D area. Also something something chrome://flags .
It'll vary based on encoding type, I imagine, but I get more Video Decode from Chromish browsers and more 3D use from Firefoxian ones.
I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. But... what is being encoded?
Wait, it's that stupid Windows Game Bar thing, isn't it?

Wait. No. Rendering a game takes less compute than watching YouTube.

I just don't know why every program needs to have an overlay and a recorder. Does NotePad come with one yet? Are they putting one into Copilot?
Best solution: don't install them at all.
Second best solution: turn those stupid options off and don't let these things run in the background when you're not using them.

As I understand it, the faster to remain mid-coitus is the benefit to avoid the depression on either end of pre-and-post event depression.

Status: The absolute state of AI: Mom can ask Alexa (Stasi Records Officer #3272) a question three times and not get an answer while I only have to type bare keywords into Google (Stasi Records Officer #7249) once.
Also, I decided I wanted to know why MS Photo Editor (installed with Office 2000 apparently) just randomly stopped working for me a couple of years ago. JPEGs have been associated with it all along but all it does is put a window in the taskbar that can't be displayed. Reading through the "answers" that I found, the people that should really be worried about AI taking their jobs are Microsoft MVPs. Neither Rajesh nor Rajeshbot 3.1.9573 offer anything but "reboot your computer" or "reinstall the application."

@Zenith that’s the beauty of it. On stackoverflow you can’t ask questions, but you can still find answers if somebody else somehow managed to ask it.
On Microsoft’s forum-or-whatever, nobody has ever gotten a useful answer. Nothing’s going to change that.

did this answer your question?
no, it didn't
I've marked it as answered
why did you do that? it's not answered.
-
@DogsB Microsoft MVP is doing the needful here: the question was answered. The fact it was not answered with a useful conclusion is irrelevant to the fact that the asker did get an answer.

The system seems to be state dependent. You are already known as a repeating offenser, while your mom may have innocently asked that question.

Lovely. Ran a mass update script in production, with verbose logging in the response of each changed record and field. I try to copy the output and... Chrome crashed. Output gone forever.
I sure hope it worked OK. I have no way to check now, or to know what the values were before the update ran so we can rollback.

For stupid of course. I don't have access to the filesystem in production so I wouldn't be able to retrieve the output.
