Wasn't that just sending a window message to a handle? đ¤
Setting window attributes (of a window handle)
Is it just a window attribute or do you need something like DWM blur? Or are these two separate options?
-
@topspin Separate. Setting window attribute and opacity applies to the entire draw area (including the titlebar) and is available since 2000. Aero Glass in its most basic form is color-key based. But in Windows 10 it doesn't quite work anymore, anyway.

Some good things to noodle around with making a baby app for, right?
Havenât done desktop stuff in a while.
-
@Arantor Getting to grips with whatever modern desktop app tech stack will be enough to noodle around. Let us know if we can make fun of you not just for PHP, but also Electron.js or something like that
-
@Applied-Mediocrity Iâm deliberately not touching Electron because 1) fuck JavaScript, 2) fuck JavaScript again, 3) what are the odds there is spyware in there Iâm not smart enough to nuke because Chrome, 4) fuck Chrome, 5) fuck JavaScript, and 6) Iâd rather use something that doesnât have a many-hundred-MB footprint, and PureBasic seems to fit the bill.

I mean, there is PHP Desktop. It's bound to be better than electron at least.

You want worse brain-damage than PHP has already inflicted? Why? It is not infeasible to start somewhere sane, like Java (JavaFX) or C# (w/e crap they have which is crap), and be building a desktop app.
Or there's GTK, if you want sanity untempered by market relevance.

Is a barely-used hole in the ground better than an overflowing portalet? Yes. Yes it is.

Itâs not, though. Itâs literally a web server, a Chrome front end and the PHP code together in a single bundle.
Iâd almost rather use PHP-GTK than that if I actually wanted to go desktop with PHP.
PHP Desktop is a worse idea than going the other way with JavaScript a la Node.

@Gribnit GTK isnât sane though.

Fair... sorry, I was infected with UNIX at age 8

I think Java Desktop might also be available still
edit: oh not since Solaris 11

Also has Rust bindings

Every. Time.Fortunately the only two apps I use which use GTK are GIMP and Meld.
In Meld I always open stuff through drag and drop.
In GIMP I just get frustrated. I don't know why they've picked GTK of all frameworks.

@Applied-Mediocrity I've been meaning to try Krita, to the point that I've downloaded it twice already (different versions, duh)

You can tell I'm old because I can still write in cursive.
Edit: technically I didn't say I wrote in cursive there.

@Zecc said in The Official Status Thread:

Terrible, inconsistent, cursive, but I do agree that you're old.
-
@Zecc I wonder how good content-aware fill it has? My meme-making and general fuckery often relies on it
I've been meaning to try all this new AI tomfoolery, but I'm old and tired, and therefore couldn't be bothered.

It's not at all worrisome in the written order. Now it's actually slightly more troubling - perhaps your hair is very sharp indeed. But, at least not concurrently... right?
-
Maybe stray hair cuttings are responsible for the puncture and subsequent replacement of a tyre?
-
@Arantor a sobering possibility indeed, but one we must accept.

That's not enough info. You also have to say you're American.

@Zecc said in The Official Status Thread:

Only the a and r in âfarâ are connected, everything else is block letters.
-
ETA: I just couldnât bring myself to do the cursive x, which is just stupid, so thereâs a normal one instead.

-
@topspin fun fact: I absolutely cannot for the life of me learn to write non-cursive. I can do either cursive or all capitals.
cursive x
Easy. You do a single middle-to-bottom diagonal stroke, kinda like the second stroke of lowercase "a" but more sideways. After you're done with the word, you cross it like a "t".
-
I didn't technically say I was writing in cursive. Only that I know how to. So there.
-
-
@Gustav the way I learned it is a single stroke, without any âdotting your is and crossing your tsâ afterwards. And it works if your goal is to never break your strokes (I obviously had to to change colors), but it looks fucking stupid.
-
@Applied-Mediocrity honestly, that looks better.

The first road block is to understand what @Gribnit says. And that's a huge one

@TimeBandit That's why you need Gribnit Translation Kit

It just gets weird on the rare occassions you do understand what he says, and it makes a lot of sense too. Then you wonder if that happens more often, or if you're just starting to lose it...

In actual phase-space, this is when the egg has hatched from a neuron and attached to a glial cell.

@topspin there is in fact, somehow and inexplicably, a gap.
