Status: Put up the Christmas tree. Put the topper (??) on it but not yet any other decoration. Will let the branches settle for a bit first.
Thought process went like:
Okay, this looks like it’s in upright position.
*fixates it*
Hmm, yeah good enough. Certainly no worse than previous years.
Actually, if I moved the top 1cm in this direction it would be perfectly upright. Maybe I should loosen it again and just nudge it a tiny bit?
Um, better not, once I open the fixation the springs will just kick it around and I’m not going to move it “just a bit.” Not worth the risk.So it’s going to stay the way it is. Good enough.
And the thing we bought a few years ago to put it in is so incredibly much better than the previous models. Locked with a foot pedal in one minute. The amount of cursing that I’ve traditionally done makes me almost nostalgic compared to things just working out.(INB4 @Applied-Mediocrity digs up the last two years I posted the same post. )

you clearly haven't been round RP spaces - where people come back to you with weird unspecific feedback like "I wanted it pink and then you made it pink!" or my all time favourite "I'm just not feeling it" which usually follows after a bizarre brief like "can you make it teal green and orange" which I 100% didn't feel while making either :) /rant
anyway @Tsaukpaetra here you go ... ish. I'd of course not saved the first one so its a bit different.

@dcon I booked my appointment back about 3 weeks ago when I just hit the 6 month mark from my second jab (as 'twas the advice, of course)
It was a bit of a poor showing actually... the email said 'don't arrive early to avoid queueing' and yet there I was not even 5 minutes early and the queue was half way around the block and there were people in front of people whose appointment was 25 minutes after mine.
I got inside the building 10 minutes after the appt time, only to join another queue, had my jab 35 minutes after the appt time and left all in all an hour or so after the appt time.

My little palm tree in the living room is turning some yellow / brown leafs at a concerning rate. Must be doing something wrong. (Probably a metaphor for my life and everything I touch.)
So I turn to the help of the internet and search for possible causes. Well, the results are absolute quality. Sun light: too much or too little of it. Watering: too much or too little of it. Fertilizer: too much or too little of it.
Thanks, that’s helpful! Would’ve never thought of that myself. And the next problem is, of course, there’s not even a good way to figure out if it gets better when you change anything. The health of the plant reacts slowly to changes, basically has hysteresis, and you cannot reliably detect if it’s getting a tad better or a tad worse from what you’ve changed. So gradient descent is out of the question, and I don’t have the resources (there’s only one plant) to do a full factorial design of experiments, either.

Changing the NIC could mean it doesn't connect to the DC (or the domain services didn't start, if that is a DC) and thus would fail to log onto the domain account if the password wasn't recently cached. Maybe try the local administrator / DSRM?

It is a domain controller. Also the local administrator account also fails. I'm not sure how to trigger DSRM when you can't even F8 to get safe mode.
I guess it just fucks around while being confused that its network adapter that's supposed to be bound static IP is missing and it installed another one in its place.
Eventually did log in to discover Network 2 was my location.
Now to remember how I unfucked it the last time I did this....
-
@Tsaukpaetra said in The Official Status Thread:

Assuming this is the permanent new network adapter and you can get into it somehow:
- Reconfigure the network adapter with the old network adapter's static IP settings. When Windows bitches about the duplication, tell it to strip the config of the previous adapter.
- Reboot the system
- Pray to dog that services start in the proper order
- ???
- Cuss, and reboot it again until the network service starts before AD and the domain comes up.
And on a DC there is no local admin, it's either get into DSRM or get things working. You might also be able to set up a temporary DHCP server that will give out the correct settings for the network (so that Internet service exists, and if you have a secondary DC, that other DC is the primary DNS, otherwise create a reservation for this new network card and have the new network IP be the DNS you hand out or hand out 127.0.0.1). At which point it's reboot the system, pray things come up in the right order, and then probably reboot it again.
-
@izzion said in The Official Status Thread:

Yeah that's part of the problem, Windows seems to think it's a new adapter every boot for raisins, so I have to tell it to shut up about that.
Funny enough, I have it now so it can talk to the main router and nothing else, so it's getting an IP but can't actually talk to other controllers.
I'm not sure what the fuck is wrong, I put the TAP adapter on the right bridge, so I'm theory it's good to go but since this is also a router I'm sure some firewall is panicking about the adapter trying to talk to itself...

Just one sample point, but the idiot density in this city is pretty high.

STATUS this video represents everything good and bad about the internet. People are paying this man to find a deeper meaning in Garfield comics. They didn't even ask him to do it. They pay him money every month and hope he delivers.
I love it. How did he get more than an hour out of Garfield? Watch and see. Will it make your life better? Marginally. I have learned that knowing some people spend hours of their lives trying to find a deeper meaning in Garfield exist makes me feel better about my life's choices. I am not a good person.

Wait, what are you really talking about? Dogs?

@dcon said in The Official Status Thread:

My two were an interesting pair. When we had a little wading pool for them to play in, she would occasionally, but he never would. When they were chasing each other around the yard, she'd run straight through the pool, but he'd usually veer around it. One time we took them to a creek, she went in the water deep enough to actually swim; he waded a bit, but mostly stayed on the bank and watched. So you'd conclude she liked water, at least a little, but he hated it.
However, when bath time came, he'd reluctantly and unhappily submit, but she'd fight you every second. So apparently she hated water more than he did.
And neither of them seemed to mind rain at all, at least for a good while; they could both look pretty miserable and bedraggled when they decided it was time to come inside.
